Winding up in this weird world was not Faust's idea of fun, but once he began noticing all the shiny things, he became much more okay with his situation. But at some point the spiral caught sight of soul and his coat, and decided he liked the coat. So, following suit for dragon kind, he attempted to steal it, only for his claws to get stuck. Well, this was awkward.
Soul remained still for a moment, questioning in his head why his jacket suddenly felt heavier. He scratched his head then turned around, noticing the claws that were stuck in the back of it. His first thought was that it was a Kishin trying to kill him, but immediately put that thought aside as he wasnât exactly being attacked. Still, as a precaution, he let a scythe blade form from his arm. âWhatâs going on here?â
âI learn since I leave nursery! I oldest, and most experienced!â
The spiral crowed proudly, the fins on his cheeks flaring out.
Once in Soulâs apartment, the dragon immediately found something to coil around. It seemed he had a natural need too.
Soul watched as he coiled around whatever object he found enticing, silently shaking his head and smirking.
âYouâre the oldest, huh? How old are you then?â
âMother says I am one full lunar cycle! Or one month? I thinks? Iâm not good at magey things.â
Faust tilted his head. The dragon was baby. Well, maybe not since he was clearly full grown, but still.
âYouâre only about a month old? I wouldnât expect you could speak if youâre that young, at least if Iâm thinking about it with how I grew up.â
He was quite surprised to hear that Faust was as young as he is. Soul had expected him to be older, as he was fully grown, but he was unfamiliar with creatures like him.
Faust shrugged.
âSpirals grow fast. Not as quickly as mirrors, but still quick. Needed to keep numbers up. Predators like to eats us, and beast clans raids our nests.â
Now that the Spiral was warming up, Faustâs noodle body began twisting and fidgeting around his chosen roost.
âHuhâŚsounds really rough to deal with.âÂ
Soul sat down on the couch closest to the dragon, watching as he kept twisting and fidgeting around his new roost.Â
âWe survive, we find clans. Clans help keep eggies safe. Safe in clans, help clans, clan survives and we survive. All are happy.â
Faust flared his wings out excited, much more animated now, waving wings and front limbs around.
âI try and make clan happy, clan likes when Faust does that. Say I helpful. I like being helpful.â
âI can tell you care about the others in your clan. Seems like they really enjoy you being there, too.â
This still raised the question to Soul; how and why did Faust get sent here, if clearly he has an integral purpose back in his home?
âClan family! Was born there! Sister and parents there!â
He chirpped.
âLots of fun finding secrets! Lots of fun finding shinies! Lots to do and see. This place bright and shiny, but home bigger. Sornieth vast, many things to find and eat.â
âEhhh well, this place is bigger than you think. Itâs just in very close proximity we tend to build things really close together, so cities like this can feel very small if youâre used to big, open spaces.â
Soul let his back relax into the couch cushions, sighing contently as he let himself mostly wind down from the events of the day.
âI guess. Boneyard very big. Get lost easily. Many disappear. Clan live in Boneyard. We good at finding way out.â
Faustâs tail twirled around passively, like it had a mind of its own.
âBoneyard? That sounds like it would be a very dangerous place, but if you know your way aroundâŚI guess it wouldnât be anymore.â
Soul lightly rubbed his neck as he tried to picture where Faust was even from.
âYup yup! Many bones have buggies hiding in them, make it easy to find food. Bones hide beasties too though, must have guards when finding buggies.â
His ears drooped slightly.
âBeasties no fun, they not want to be friendly and help clan, only hurt. No funs.â
âAhh youâve got to deal with beasts too? They tend to not want to be friendly, no matter where you go.â
Soul leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees, frowning slightly at the fact that Faustâs ears were drooping.
âWe like friends! But beasties donât want to be friends. This makes me sad.â
He perked up quickly however.
âWe have friends though! Other clan! Lives in Grove! Serve the Shadowbinder, not Plaguebringer. Good friends! Master Octobre come from there.â
âShadowbinder? Is this like another helpful deity?â
Soul kept trying to process the type of place Faust was from, as clans such as the ones he described were either scarce or didnât exist.
âYup yup! Shadowbinder sneaky goddess! Keep many secrets! Very goopy!â
He uncoiled from his perch, landing on the floor and pulling out a parchment scroll and a stick of sharpened charcoal wrapped in hide. The Spiral began to scribble, and when he was done, handed over the parchment to Soul.
On it was two dragons, one skeletal with pustuals growing on it, the other was low too the ground, and had goo dribbling from its eyes and mouth.
âSee! Shadowbinder goopy!â
He examined the drawing carefully, trying to memorize the design of the creature that the dragon had called Shadowbinder.
âYeah I can see that itâs goopy. Do you know why?â
âShadows! Shadowbinder is shadows!â
It wasnât the clearest of answers. Faust likely didnât know the exact reason why, but he likely knew it was something to do with the shadows.
âPlaguebringer is spikey! And bumpy!â
He raised an eyebrow at the answer, but merely shrugged and didnât question it further.Â
âDo you like that the Plaguebringer is spikey and bumpy?â
Faust did his equivalent of a shrug.
âShe do whatever she wants. She Plaguebringer, no point caring. Goddess do god things, we no understand. Bumpy and spikiness part of that.â
âAh, so itâs not like a bigger dragon that has control of the clan, sheâs a goddess. That makes a little more sense.â
He nodded, mulling over the information he was just given.
âClan is run by Tangwen and Genen. Genen speak to Plaguebringer, delivers messages from goddess. Sees things, predicts things. She prophet.â
Faust clarified.
âTangwen protect clan. Guard clan, powerful. I respect, he save me from beasties.â
âHuh... well, sounds kinda similar to some of the things people do.â
Soul scratched his chin, trying to find a specific example he could use.

Soul kept trying to process the type of place Faust was from, as clans such as the ones he described were either scarce or didn't exist.
"What the hell is this place? And who are you, Arachne's missing brother?"
He looked at the strange teenager standing before him with confusion painted on his grey face. Not only was he utterly confused about his unfortunate choice of fashion but also where he had came from and who thos Arachne was. ââŚ..What?â
He let the body drop, ruined and petrified instead of destroyed like it would be if Soul killed it. He turned his attention to Soul and skittered over, looming over him silently until he got his voice. âThe kishin soul tastedâŚ.disappointing but that pure one, that was what Iâm looking forâ
âI couldnât tell you the difference. I just know that pure souls can beâŚaddicting.â He shrugged as he turned his attention to the completely ruined Kishin. The teen wondered how he was able to even manage that.
He chuckled darkly and changed back to the form he was in before to straighten himself out. He sniffed again but didnât find another closeby, unfortunately, but he still could sense the two stronger souls somewhere. âHmmâŚletâs move on, I sense something betterâ
âOkayâŚwhere?â Soul still kept his distance from the Entity, pretty much knowing if he made any wrong move, it was highly likely that he was to be killed by him.
He looked towards the apartments and sniffed again, just begining off in that direction without a word. Whatever this soul may be was somewhere over there and who it belonged to was a mystery to both of them.
He raised an eyebrow on the direction he was headed, but followed as he did promise to...well, tag along at this point. He did take notice that they were headed towards the apartments, and hoped in some way he hadnât found a Kishin within the complex.

"I couldn't tell you the difference. I just know that pure souls can be...addicting." He shrugged as he turned his attention to the completely ruined Kishin. The teen wondered how he was able to even manage that.
"What the hell is this place? And who are you, Arachne's missing brother?"
He looked at the strange teenager standing before him with confusion painted on his grey face. Not only was he utterly confused about his unfortunate choice of fashion but also where he had came from and who thos Arachne was. ââŚ..What?â
The teen shoved his hands in his pockets and sighed, slightly grinding his sharp teeth together before looking back up at the Entity. âYouâre a spider, arenât you?â
âYes, Iâm what your species calls a âspiderâ, the first one actuallyâ He watched him as if he didnât have a clue where he was going with what he was saying.
âFirst one? Arachne says the same thing about herself constantly.â He shook his head slightly. âBut how did I get here, exactly? Last thing I remember was being in class and nowâŚwherever this place is.â
He frowned at this spider woman claiming to be the first but hid attention was directed towards the familiar question regarding how people would get there âOne way or another my web caught you and brought you here without my knowingâ He shrugged and walked over to his desk, sitting down on the edge and continuing to watch him.
âThis is your place and you donât have control over who comes here or not?â He raised an eyebrow and huffed, letting his posture slouch. âIf this is hell, youâve got the wrong person to be brought here. Youâre looking for Asura, not me.â
âThis is my realm, yes, and I have complete control over what happens here. The web I spun isâŚ.unique and dips into places and catches morsels for me outsideâ Ge shrugged âAlso this isnât hell, no fire and brimstone, Lucifer is much lower than I am on the celestial scale..â
His eyes widened in confusion. âLuciferâŚliteral Satan, is lower than you on the celestial scale?â The teen took a few moments to let that process within his mind. âAnd morsels? So Iâm basically your food?â
âWell yes, more importantly your soul, but I canât say Iâve seen one like yours before..â Ge let that hang a little before continuing âI am an elder god, a small species that came into existence as soon as the multiverse itself began, your âgodâ and his boogieman are minor deities at best compared to myself and myâŚ..family of sortsâ
âI can tell you you donât want my soul. I know of better sources, more specifically Kishin egg souls. Those ones are the best, if you ask me at least.â He shrugged and leaned against the nearest wall (or whatever he could lean on). âBut Iâve never heard of anyone being aboveâŚwell Death, honestly.â
The god chuckled at the mention of death being the highest being the kid had met âAh, death, thereâs a saying among the morsels that Iâve collected so farâŚI think it goes âDeath is not an escapeâ or something along those lines. You see, not even death can touch this place as every time their souls fall prey to me they come back with new ones in a sense, I just reap them over and over and over..â
He blinked a couple times. âIn otherwords⌠Lord Death canât touch this place? Or his son? Yet you can keep bringing souls back over and over?â
âUntil theyâre used up, yes, they serve as crop and myself the farmer in a senseâ He smiled evilly, baring rows of black and orange needle-like teeth. âNothing can control this land of mine besides myself and I intend to keep it that wayâ
Soul narrowed his eyes at the Entity. âHow do I know youâre not lying and that youâre not someone whoâs really on their way to being a Kishin? I may not have a soul sensing ability, but I can tell when someone creates madness by merely existing.â He pulled his left hand out of his pocket, letting his arm dangle at his side.
As soon as he said that his smile twisted into something much more unsettling and a chaotic set of images flashed before Soulâs eyes, most incomprehensible symbols and ever-changing abominations, but some different views of the cosmos at a grander scale before ubruptly stopping and leaving him back in the office. The old god watxhed him for a moment to see his initial reaction to what would usually fry someoneâs brain before speaking up. âDoes that prove my legitimately, young man?â
He remained silent for a few seconds, his mouth agap until he shook his head to bring himself back to the matter at hand. âIâŚyes, it does. Doesnât mean I fully trust you, though.â
He just shrugged as if he didnât care at all, which he didnât. A cigar appeared in his hamd and immediately lit itself befirr he put it in his mouth and blew a circular puff of smoke as Soul watched him âDoesnât matter either wayâ
He frowned heavily and placed his left hand back into his pocket. âWhen am I allowed to leave? Iâm fairly certain my partner wonât be happy with my absense.â
He just shrugged and puffed again, looking at a large grandfather clock in the corner of the room aimlessly for a moment before focusing on the kid again âSoon, I just figured out where you came fromâ
âYouâre just figuring out where I came from? Wouldnât your web tell you that information?âÂ
âIt only catches, i have to find the spot myselfâ He got up off his desk, straightened his dark suit, and gestured for Soul to go to the door. However they would end up where the web had snatched him was outside the room at least.
In truth, he only reason he hadnât thrown the teen to the wolves was to get a chance at more souls like his and to see what his reality had to offer. To him it was scouting for new meals before the web took another but there was a part of him that was simply just curious, wanting to see what this place was about abd if he should bother keeping the hole open.
Soul raised an eyebrow and shrugged, letting his posture straighten slightly. âSo are you letting me go, or am I going to be a tour guide for you?â
âYouâre finding me a replacement, your soul for someone elseâsâ He said this as if he wasnât forcing him to chose someone to be condemned, like it was a simple task.
They walked through the door and ended up exactly where Soul had been taken, fortunately ending up in the classroom when it was completely empty. The door behind them closed shut and vanished from sight before either could react and trapped Soul with the elder god.
The teen looked around the empty room, noticing that it was dark outside. How long had he been gone? âShit, Iâm going to be bitched at tonightâŚâ He huffed and slouched his shoulders. âNot only for missing class, but bringing..well, you along.â He shook his head slightly as he grit his shark-like teeth together again. âWhat kind of soul are you expecting?â
âHmmm⌠Iâd say the most exotic one here but it looks like itâs much to large to get at without putting in some effort..â He said while looking out the window as if seeing something Soul couldnât. âIâll settle with something powerful, Iâm sure you can find something around here from the feeling Iâm gettingâ
âMost souls you canât get without putting in some effort.. Iâm not the best at tracking down souls, but either my partner or one of my friends should be able to find one pretty quicklyâŚmaybe not my partner because sheâs probably planning my murder right now.â He shrugged and walked to the classroom door.
He chuckled darkly and followed him out, looking around the hall with slight curiosity like a traveler who wasnât entirely interested in his environment but still caring to look. He was about to say something but he then suddenly focused on the âpartnerâ he had mentioned a few times âHmm, this âpartnerâ, are they romantic? Work-related? Iâve only heard the word used in those regards..â
Soul scrunched in his nose at even the thought it could be a romantic relationship, and it wasnât really work, either, but that was closer. âGod no, it isnât romantic. Here at this school, everyone has a partner that isnât exactly work related. A Meister needs a Weapon, and my partner is the Meister, and Iâm the Weapon.â
âWeapon? Meister? What do you mean?â He asked as they walked down the hall. This interested him, that much was for sure, and he cared a bit more just for that purpose only.
The teen was quick to hold out his left arm, and allowed it to turn into his scythe blade. âPeople like me can physically turn our bodies into weapons, while our Meisters are people with matching soul wavelengths who can wield us.â
âHmmâŚ.canât say Iâve seen that before..â He studied the blade that had protruded from his arm from where he stood for a few seconds. After he was done he shrugged and looked him over once more so a little more interest âI wonder what a weaponâs soul is like..â
âEhhhâŚI canât give you any. Itâs forbidden, as a weapon that eats âpureâ souls has theirs transformed into a Kishin egg soul. Which I can get you those.â He turned his arm back to normal and shoved his hands in his pockets.
âTch, thatâs no fun butâŚ.sureâ If he was reading this correctly whatever a kishin soul was was probably the equivalent of a sinner or something equally âdistastefulâ. If those where plentiful he might as well see how many he can get his hands on before leaving.
âIâm not someâŚEldritch horror like you, so I canât bring myself to do certain things you wouldnât think twice about.â He hunched his shoulders and headed outside, facing the many, manyâŚmany steps that lead down to the main streets of Death City. The moon was clearly out, itâs ever present creepy face lighting up the night sky.
He looked up at the moon with a wide smile, immediately becoming impressed with the desert night sky. Tonight seemed to be a good night for whatever mischief he was planning but unfortunately for Soul he didnât have much of a choice but to tag along. At least on the bright side any kishin in the making were about to become dinner, that was something for Sol to look forward to seeing.
Once they got to the bottom of the stairs, Soul stopped and turned to the Entity.Â
âIâm not exactly good at sensing souls, thatâs more of Makaâs job, but I would assume youâre pretty good at it. Considering your professionâŚif we can even call it that.â
âId like to say ârefined tasteâ but you get it, yes, I can smell every soul for miles just standing hereâ He gestured into the city and, in turn, vaguely to the souls he mentioned. He could smell some rotten among the rest for sure and twl rather interesting ones that he couldnât place yet. He assumed these rotten ones were the kishin but the others he didnât know yet.
Soul nodded apprehensively, knowing that âsmellingâ a soul was not the way that Maka had ever described sensing a nearby soul at all. Then again, the creature he was looking at was nowhere near human. At all. âOkay..which soul do you want to go after first, then?â
âHmm, the normal ones are off the table so I do smell some bad eggs so to speak and two strong souls I canât place..â He frowns, wanting to go after the stronger ones but deciding he might just have to start out with an appetizer âIâll take the supposed kishin, whatever those areâ
âHope youâre okay with fighting your food then. Then again thatâs probably not an issue for you.â Soul shrugged and looked around for a few moments before hearing some screaming and crashing of windows.Â
âTheyâre more active at nightâŚif you couldnât tell.â He was quick to run off in the direction of the all the noise.
The spider basically glided in the direction of the supposed beast, eagre to see what it was and what itâs soul was like. It didnât take them long to come across the kishin in the making and when they did he closed in on it quickly without a care
The Kishin didnât even really see him, focusing mostly on the bright blue soul that floated in front of it. It grabbed it and quickly swallowed it, licking its lips afterwards.
In the heat of the moment he changed shape right before crashing into the kishin, becoming a large bioluminescent orange and black spider none the likes either soul or the kishin had ever seen. The empty street wss filled with the sound of exited chittering as he stabbed his long spined legs into his prey.
Soul made sure to stay back, not wanting to get in the demonâs way. He watched as he pretty much tore the thing apart, knowing to not ever make him angry.
The Kishin screamed and roared, clawing at Entity before any sign of resistance started to fade as it died.
As the life faded from the lesser beastâs eyes he sunk his fangs into its neck and ripped it open, sucking tbe soul from it much like a vampire would blood. Luckily for him both the kishin soul and the pure soul it had consumed came out and he got to taste both. The pure one tasted much much better than the tainted one, obviously, but it was hardly bad to say the least.
"Uh...I'm assuming you liked it well enough." He stood a few feet away, his hands pressed firmly into his pockets as he watched the Eldritch horror consume what was left of the Kishin.
