For those of you who have been here since December, thank you for sticking around! I’m sorry for the extended hiatus. I didn’t really have the motivation to keep working on this. My drawing process has changed a bit since then. It might not look as clean, but it might help me keep at this for longer. From now on, I will try to update on saturdays, but I can’t make any guarantees about how consistent that will be.

“Reaching this reality…” Gaster trailed off. He brought his hand up to cover his mouth, and in his anxiety, a pool of dark magic swirled in his palms. “It took a long time to get here. Perhaps two years? That’s my best estimate based on calendars here. The space between worlds is incredibly vast.”

“I guess you could say I ‘saw’ a lot of realities on my way here. I lost count of how many times I approached the blinding light of a universe and had to quickly back away. They hurt too much to get close, much less see inside. This world, the underground, was the first that didn’t hurt. I think the barrier had something to do with that. A magical entry point that stabilized me before I came back into reality.”

“What do you mean, stabilized?” Herb questioned. “Why did the other worlds hurt?”

“You know how I melt when I use too much black magic?” Gaster held out his hand, which was now beginning to destabilize. He lightly shook away the shadows in his palms before he continued. “The void between worlds is saturated in it. It was slowly tearing me apart, and until I came across the underground, I had no magic to fix it. I didn’t even have a soul to anchor myself with. While the void was killing me slowly, stepping into reality with no magic would have done it instantly.”

“No soul…” Herb muttered, growing pale at Gaster’s story. “I’m glad you made it here, doc.”

Gaster’s eyes flickered. “Red is… an alright color. As long as it isn’t glowing. And it isn’t dark.”

“Geez. Yeah, I was there when we had all the emergency lights in the labs replaced with blue ones,” Herb added. “Red laser pointers are banned. And I’m pretty sure there is an unspoken agreement among the staff to avoid wearing red clothes.”

“I really wish you wouldn’t do that,” Gaster sighed. “It’s red lights I have a problem with, and even that is getting better. You don’t have to change your wardrobe. I wore red last February, remember?”

“Right.” Herb shot the doctor a look. “I don’t know if you thought you were being subtle, but you sulked for the whole first week of February.”

Sorry for the radio silence. I like how I added another character to ask and then immediately went awol, haha.

The month of december is just Not A Good Time for pet projects for me, with the end of a semester coinciding with that time of year where I hand-make presents for at least half of my family and friends… so hopefully this askblog will be running again in January.

I feel like this is a bit rushed and low-effort, but I really wanted to at least sketch this as soon as possible. Robert’s really off-model, but I’m sure you know what I’m going for, right?

I didn’t want to reblog, because this is a bit disturbing and I didn’t want some poor guy scrolling through the notes having a heart attack.
