“Oh, I’m so sorry!! I forgot to introduce myself, I guess this is kinda awkward now, huh?” He looked towards the ground and rubbed his finger on the inside of the other’s palm. “I’m Herbert by the way! I was trying to find your face but um…your hand will do just fine I think–You have really soft hands.”

“Thanks, I guess. Yours are cold,” he said as the other rubbed his hand on his own. Maybe cold wasn’t the right word, it almost felt like there was nothing there, but he could feel a light pressure. Like holding condensed fog.

Herbert took a deep breath before he smiled again. “So um….here’s your bread I really hope that you’ll like it.” He gave the loaf of bread to his companion, and then rubbed the back of his neck. “Oh!! Also my baby is here with me!! Look at him…I think he’s here, if he’s not that would be very awkward…But anyway!!! here’s my baby!! His name is Bartholmeow, he’s a precious lil kitty look at him.”

He gave a gentle smile. “Well howdy there little partner,” he said, attempting to give the cat a pat on the head, but his hand went right through both Bartholmeow and Herbert. “He’s mighty cute.”

His face lit up with a warm smile. “You really think so? Thank you so much, hon!!” Bartholomeow purred loudly for a small bit, whilst he rubbed up against the other’s hand and wrist. He eventually just floated up near the taller man’s face and gave it a few small licks. Herbert on the other hand, squeezed his hand tighter and looked around a bit frantically.

He gave out a little giggle as the cat licked his face. It was a weird feeling, being licked by a ghost cat. “He’s friendly too.” He noticed that Herb was freaking out a little. “Is everything alright Mr. Herbert?”

Herbert let out a noise of discomfort as he inched closer to Maverick. “Y-You don’t have to call me Mister…And well I wouldn’t say that Im ‘alright’ but I guess I could but um…Im really not.” He let out an awkward laugh as his breath gained in number. “Ah, well you see, hon, I’m sort of blind, and um…Sorry I get nervous when it feels like I’m getting left alone, sorry…Is my baby okay?”

“Hey now, it’s alright, you’re not alone,” he comforted. “He’s doing fine, he’s up here. By my face, I mean.”

He took a deep breath, holding tighter onto the other’s hand. “Are-Are you sure? N-Not that I doubt you, what choice do I have besides doubt…“ Herbert’s breath was ragged and sharp, and it felt like his heart was coming out of his chest. “Sorry…But if my baby loves and trusts you…then so will I.”

“Hey now little buddy, it’s fine; he’s still here, I promise you that,” he said softly while placing his free hand on Herb’s shoulder. “I can try to bring him back down to you if you want, I’m not sure if I can touch him, given he’s semipermeable and all, but I’ll try my best to wrangle him up if you want.”

"Its...Its fine, its fine, its fine, I'm fine...." He attempted to steady his breaths, relaxing a bit to the other's touch. After a few moments, he had almost completely collected himself'. "Sorry about that...I don't think I got your name, How can I thank you if I don't have a name to call you by?"
