.You once again have been on my mind often, so has been our friendship. As you already know, recently I have rekindled my interest in poetry, and while searching for something to send to Deep Space Climate Observatory over two weeks ago, I came upon a work by Maya Anthony. It is from the year of 2023. Would you still care to hear it?
Each dawn and dusk, they near,
Sun and moon, close and dear,
Yet always apart, year to year,
vous, so clear.
In morning’s blush, they brush so close,
In evening’s glow, their nearness grows,
Yet never touch, their fate opposes,
In their cycle, a romance composes.
Sun and moon, in sky’s vast dome,
Forever near, forever home,
In their paths, a cosmic poem,
Together, yet always alone.
.Personifications of these celestial objects are a common trope in literature, either putting them as rivals or as partners, and almost always showing them as opposites. Their differences compliment each other in so many ways! The Sun is often shown as a source of hope, warmth, and life-giving light while the Moon is a sign to look into oneself, a symbol of change and quiet melancholy. You compared us to them once, I think it was pretty fitting.
.Then again, their usual portrayal is based on what ancient civilizations thought - that the Sun and Moon were equals. It has been long disproven, obviously the Sun is the center of the Solar System and a radiant star, and the Moon is nothing more than Earth's natural satellite, only able to weakly reflect part of the Sun’s rays. The only shared ground between them is the sky.
.The sky is their shared ground… Language is weird.
.Very weird. It is so elusive and difficult, you know? Sometimes trying to put words to my thoughts feels like grasping at smoke.
.
.
.I do not know why I am saying any of this. Sorry, I need to get rid of this incessant rambling. But how does one break a habit that started over four thousand years ago? Before I had met you, I would spend hours upon hours talking to myself until exhaustion without a clear point, going off on tangents and not finishing a thought before starting a new one.
.As you can see, nothing has changed since then.
.With regrets, @stardust-next
