My mom lets me out some nights. The cold nights finally breathe through my fur. It's wonderful to say the least. Oh, and the moon! It's out tonight, and the chill that the moon brings into the air is just right. What more can I ask for? The door remained open for a good amount of time after I left. The light illuminated the back alley, all the way up to the roofs. The night sky was beautiful, along with the stars and the moon. Everything was so relaxing, I almost fell asleep on the top of my mom's roof.
"Hey, Kid." A long meow came from the protruding chimneys behind me. I don't think they wanted me here. "You new around here?" The Tommy cat said, moving closer. The time I have now is good to leave.
"No, I-I've been here for quite a while." Backing away, keeping my tail tucked.
"Really?" He signaled to another cat around me. I wasn't sure what to do now.
"Yeah, I um... I should go." My legs moved back. I bumped directly into a different member. That should have been my third warning to get the hell out of here. They must have been watching me from afar.
"Oh yeah, I think I recognize you." The moon lit the cat in front. He was large and a bit intimidating. Black with brown, striped fur leading all the way on the back of his neck to his tail. He might strike me if I move. I had enough space between him. I put a paw down to take my first step, but he moved along with me. This was becoming a growing problem. My second step was to get ready. I wouldn't put it past him that he could smell the fear right off me. I couldn't hesitate any longer. Small scurries of scattered nails on cold, smooth concrete bricks. They were far behind me when I took a sharp turn. I'm not the type to start fights, so I try to stay away from street cats. This is my fifth occurrence of having an encounter with this specific group. The Black cat is a Savannah cat. I didn't think I'd see one bigger than Web, and the fact that he could be the leader of that group. What a mess I've gotten myself into. They are everywhere. Now, I have to watch my back every time I go out. Hopefully, they won't be back when Dad calls me back inside.
The night was silent and calm again. The water nearby was glowing with the moon's bright shine. Tonight was my birthday, and I was 24 moons old.
"White wine!" Scared the fleas out of my fur.
"Jesus, do you always have to yell?" Colonel Web snuck behind me.
"Good moon to you, too, son." No matter how he'd scare me, we always greeted each other with a head-to-head touch. Colonel was old but still ahead of his time, surprisingly.
"Up for another job?" smiling with his mustache. He looked nice with it. Wish I could have good looking fur like that.
"Yeah, it's been a long wait to get some action in!" Colonel laughed at my enthusiastic jumps.
"Calm down, son. You need to get back on your feet again. A little training will help do the trick." He left before I could respond.
"I guess tracking you down will be a good start." Howling into the dark, beautiful night. He was bound to be close. He's too old to outrun me.
