A New Host //
It was too late to back out, and thatâs what made Jason so pissed off. He sat beside her as she did her hair and make-up, but he didnât dare say a word. The team seemed to get that he was in a foul mood, so instead of doing the usual flirty banter that they always did, they turned to Ashley and talked about how pretty she was, how perfect the camera was going to shine on her. His eyes were already green, but the jealousy that raged through him brought it to a whole new level. Jason didnât want to share. He didnât want to share his segment, his interviews, or his goddamn hairdressers and make-up artists.Â
He smirked as Ashley finally said something. Well, she wasnât stupid, he could say that much. Jason looked at her and didnât respond for a moment. âIf you want to play a grown-up today, hereâs a lesson for you: âsorryâ means nothing out here,â Jason said, âI worked to get this, and you say a few words about a puppy. I donât care if youâre sorry. Just do your job and stay out of my way.âÂ
Was he harsh? Maybe. But it wasnât like it should surprise her. Jason had a reputation, and it wasnât that he was a sweet fellow. He was selfish and he was going to say what was on his mind.Â
Ashâs lips pressed together as he spoke. âThis isnât about playing grown-up.â She snapped. âSome of us actually want out of this town you know. Some of us arenât just content to sit around and be a big fish in a small pond.â Ash sighed and closed her eyes, pinching the bridge of her nose to calm herself down. She stood up, she wasnât sure how long it was until they were supposed to be on set but she couldnât be in this trailer with him for a minute longer, not if he was going to act like a spoiled child.Â
âYou know,â she could feel the anger bubbling inside her. âIf you were a whole lot nicer, maybe they wouldnât be bringing a second person in.â Ash felt her face growing hot. She could hear her father scolding her for being so mean, but she couldnât help herself. Once she started it was hard to stop. And besides, he started it, she had tried to take the high road. âIâm only doing this for a week for experience. Thatâs all it is, and if you paid attention you would have heard that.â
