Season 2 starts July 28 (the same day that “Another Typical Fantasy Romance” launches on Tapas because of the Pocket Comics shutdown)

When Lumina Lanchoux's mother (Chloe) died, her father brought in his son (Endymion) and mistress. Lumina was abused until she was 12, when her father and stepmother died in a carriage "accident". She was made of Head of House, Chloe's brother, Count Joseph Melkan convinced Lumina to give him power, gave her presents, got her addicted to drugs and gambling, arranged a bad marriage, then tried to sell her off when he learned she's a Leggion. Endymion died saving her. She made a deal with Duke Lucius Von Hart, most powerful Leggion and responsible for the Leggion Massacre: her heart for her life - and she'll save his son. Lumina returns to the funeral, just after her paternal Aunt Teresa Vales slapped her. Lumina slaps back. 10-year-old Endymion broke his leg in the crash. Joseph takes Lumina shopping, she aims to make him go broke and sneaks away. She runs into Duke Hart's son, Karajan, who gives her his cloak. Lumina goes to the bar Hart works out of, asking for "Mr. Calvados". She says she's a healing Leggion and then breaks the power detector. Lumina shows him she heals people by transferring the wound to herself and then healing it. He'll protect them as her guardian until she's an adult and she'll heal Karajan. Lumina tells Endymion that their relatives are trying to pick a puppet. She says she doesn't dislike him and he's her only family. Duke Hart visits to claim guardianship and give Lumina a leg up. His son will die in 6 years (when she's 18). Lucius's aide. Brandon Munez, a transforming Leggion, worries Lumina is working with "the doctor". Lumina kicks out everyone except Joseph and Teresa, and manages to create a rift between the maids by letting them cozy up so they turn on each other, so she can fall and hurt her leg to heal Endymion's and throw out all the servants. Lumina reveals the truth to Endymion when he catches her. He realizes the whole situation. She adds that, while she can't heal herself, she will heal quickly. Endymion always felt bad to Lumina, who was punished by his mother because "Lumina's mother stole everything that was rightfully mine and he then felt they stole what was Lumina's. He agrees to go to the Academy "you seem to have something planned. I'll go along with it." Lumina visits Hart manor to get new servants and heal Karajan. Lumina sleeps for 4 days post healing. At the Leggion Massacre 6 years ago (Lumina was ~6), Karajan said a woman with "wheat colored hair and pink eyes" saved him. Lucius has lollipops instead of cigarettes. He sent over servants while she was asleep. Lucius re-proposes Lumina get engaged to Karajan. Olivia (red/green) is assigned as her personal maid. Princess Arabella Piaget Epagonizomai Philoneikia Von Rembrana "grants the honor" of tea with her to Lumina so she can get into the estate. Karajan doesn't like Arabella, who has been pursuing him for years. Arabella's maid, Eva, "spills" (cooled) tea on Lumina, who "spills" her cup in Eva's face. Lumina says she was protecting Arabella's dignity because a maid is a reflection of her master, when Karajan arrives, Arabella sides with Lumina and dismisses Eva, who is handed over to Lucius. Karajan says Lucius killed Duchess Iris Hart. Lucius says he'll look into getting Endymion into the Academy. Lucius proposes, again, that she marry Karajan. Lumina agrees once she sees her alimony. The next day they perform an ancient magic (which is banned and considered dark magic) ritual that will allow her to find Karajan when he needs healing (her necklace to his earring). Ash Munez (red/grey), son of Brandon and Olivia - and friend of Karajan- is assigned as her guard. Lumina remembers Olivia betrayed Lucius in the past. New butler, Harold (grey/blue). Lumina kicks out Joseph and Teresa, "unwanted help is meddling" (1-18).

Lumina accompanies Endymion to his exam for Nejour Academy. Olivia was named "worst traitor of the century", but Ash wasn't punished. Lumina's marriage is on the front page. Kelton is a derogatory term for a child of an Imperial citizen and minority nomad tribe. Lumina calls paparazzi Jack (brown pony tail/blue) that he's a leech (his false stories in the future got someone killed). Lumina tells Jack to follow Carmela, the opera singer, to her lover; he's involved in Dark Magic. The ogReporter was countersued by the nobles into debt, but now Jack will suffer it. Lumina buys gifts for Endymion and sweet for Ash. Endymion wants details on Lumina's marriage, so she says she fell for Karajan at first sight. He gives up, but worries. Endymion goes to Nejour Academy. Lumina gets a new "room" at the Hart home. Olivia gives her an opera ticket. It's based on Iris and Lucius. Lumina catches Brandon disguised as Olivia and shows Lumina "the doctor" , an old man (white/purple). The doctor recently put Brandon under a dark magic spell that will kill him if Lucius finds out. Brandon has a week to turn over Lucius's ancient magic research for the antidote (19-24). Brandon and Lumina go to the slums to find Erika (who was originally used then killed by her stepfather) (blonde/green). Lumina gives Erika 3 days and all the resources she needs. If she can treat the slime (monster) that Brandon shed, Lumina will support Erika and her mother. Rainy days remind Karajan and Lucius of Iris. Lumina gifts Lucius a drawing of him (it's about 6-yr-old level). Erika finds Petenia melts slimes and finds a cure for that, which works on Bradon. Erika's mom left her stepdad and they'll be in Lumina's care. Lumina now calls her Eri. Lumina says if Brandon takes the cure and survives, he'll serve her, but she'll actually give it to him either way. Brandon just needs to not report everything to Lucius, as he's done now because of the curse. The antidote works & Brandon will occasionally serve her as the maid “Hannah”. Lumina is teleported to Karajan, who is beat up because he doesn't want to use his powers and be like Lucius (25-28). Lumina faints after taking his wounds. Karajan takes her to Lucius, since he doesn’t have anywhere else to go. He realizes what her “healing” ability really is, nurses her, she throws up flowers, & he hears her mutter Endymion’s name. When she wakes, Lumina teases him a little then says Endymion is her brother, & agrees to call Karajan by his name. Brandon tells Lucius that Lumina definitely doesn’t know the doctor. 6 years ago, the doctor kidnapped Iris & Karajan, but Iris was a normal human (there’s a vase of irises under a magic dome) (c31). Since the doctor’s deadline passes & Brandon is still alive, he agrees to serve Lumina; we also learn that Olivia is the one that proposed to him. Bradon tells her the doctor kidnapped him when he was young and she needs to watch out & shows her the face: old, grey hair, & purple eyes.

Ash awakens as a swordmaster after Karajan fails to hold back his strength when Lumina stops by the training grounds (to tell him she won't kiss him, so he doesn't need to avoid her). Lumina's tutor Nora is obsessed with Lucius, killed her husband, & tries to give Lucius a love potion, but Lumina & Huxley stop her. She claims that Lumina used a love potion on Karajan, just like Chloe used a love potion. Lumina tells Lucius it's not enough to collect the love potions, they need to find who makes them, & they discover that the doctor gave people the recipe & the bottles have dark magic. Karajan drinks one, thinks that's why he's acting weird around Lumina, & Olivia has to explain that NO! The potions aren't effective & he likes Lumina. Erika makes an energy drink, Bacchus & they keep supply a little low to increase demand. Teresa gets out of prison; her son Morgan asks Endymion for money but he's a child. Her husband decides to rip off Bacchus by making “Beeches”. Lumina plans to have Riley, an upcoming opera singer, market it, but she's dating Morgan. Lumina runs into a frog monster that she turns back into a person & fellow Leggion Jasper; she learns that Karajan is basically considered an unstable monster, which is why he wasn't conscripted, despite being a Leggion (43-60). Selene is auditioning for the same play as Riley, & was definitely a victim of the doctor, who called her a failure. Lumina gives her some tips. After talking with Bradon, Lumina learns that the doctor kidnapped Iris & Karajan, it was raining that day, & suspects that the Leggion massacre was of people the doctor experimented on, including Iris (61). Lumina patents easy-to-push trolley carts with cooling & pays people that are otherwise unlikely to get work to push them around & make it clear that it's the real Bacchus. Selene got Odette's role in the play, so Lumina asks to go. Lucian & Karajan agree to take her. Riley tries to give Selene laxatives, but Lumina switches the cups. When her aunt & cousin ask for money, Lumina throws her aunt's words from the funeral back at her & Karajan threatens them to not show up again (62-63). Lumina's cousin sends Queen Merlot an engagement proposal. Karajan sees the proposal & thinks Lumina doesn't like him anymore because he's grown. Karajan beats up the cousin after he waited all day at a cafe & was stood up (by Lumina). While Teresa & her family are arrested, Lumina shows up to rub it in. Lucius tells Lumina he killed his father for abusing him. Time Skip to Endymion's graduation (64-66). Elliot & Arabella congratulate the graduates. Elliott offers Endymion a reward & he asks for access to the forbidden archives, which Elliot can't grant but will look into. Arabella says she'll ask her father too, if Lumina agrees to come, reminds Lumina that her lady-in-waiting position is still open, & is sad to part when Elliot calls her. Endymion is upset that Karajan is staying with them. Lumina asks Endymion a "hypothetical" question about if he would save her; he says he always would & tells her about his accident. Lumina knows it can't be her mom, but not more than that (67-69). The emperor agrees to give Endymion access & worries about his kids. Endymion & Karajan don't get along (70). In the forbidden archives, Lumina finds a fairy tale written by Mimir, which basically says a butterfly became human-like, fed heart-shaped jewels to monsters that became humans, then went to sleep. Elliot says it explains how humans came to exist, but it’s here because of “its supposedly impure interpretation of mankind’s origins” & that “Healing Leggion” is another name for the butterfly woman. Elliot has one of the flowers that Lumina coughed up. We see that holding the key, even with dark magic gloves, scorched Elliot’s hand, & that Elliot himself might be the doctor as he thinks of Karajan as “the research material I once let slip away.” (71).

Ariana Astaroth married Rowen Green to pay off her family debt. 5 years later, he knocked up her maid & nanny's daughter, Alhena. Ariana refuses to register Rowen's illegitimate child & asks for a divorce. Rowen says she'll have to pay 5x 100 billion if she asks for a divorce. Ariana plans to make him ask for it instead. Ariana's friend Winslet told her about an investigation agency, which is actually a secret organization under the Emperor. She meets "Rowen"/Wendy & Kazen & hires them to get dirt on Rowan. Ariana plans to get money for herself & make Rowen file for divorce. Ariana will pay them 30 mil via purchasing an artifact at auction. Wendy & Kazen need to investigate Rowen anyway because he's funding the House of Lords, anti-royal family nobles. Rowen's sister Florie has been stealing Ariana's things & breaks the ring she was trying to steal when finally caught. Florie cries to Rowen & their mother, who tries to tell Ariana off. Ariana said if the maids are a reflection of her training, then Rowen being a cheater must be a reflection of MIL being a mistress. Ariana tells the bank to only accept checks in her name now, cutting off Florie & MIL. At the auction, after purchasing the statue, Ariana breaks it, revealing a beautiful statue under it, having been encased in plaster to protect it. Ariana's in the papers. Rowen vents to Kaimo, who is the only reason Rowen has money, & tells him to be careful if he wants Ariana to accept his child on the registry & that house Asteroth must stay barely afloat for their plans. Ariana finds restorer Daniel Wright, who was cast out for a scandal. Daniel has Ariana hire his son Dylan for her restoration work. Florie tells Rowen that Ariana has a lover, so he tries to hit her when she comes home with Dylan, who immediately detains Rowen. Dylan will stay with Wendy & Kazen; he'll fix vintage plates. Wendy is the second Prince of the Crosel Principality, who Ariana punched in the face as a child. Alhena gets Rowen to say he'll throw a ball for her. Rowen tells his family it's so Florie can get a husband. Ariana refuses to help. Florie & MIL take Ariana's invitation to the Imperial Ball, where they're put in prison for impersonating nobles, mocked in the papers, & Rowen slaps Ariana saying she did it on purpose (1-15).

Ariana tells the doctor his son, Baras, is working with Alhena & sets a trap - Alhena told Rowen that Ariana is infertile, when it’s obviously him. Rowen starts a rumor that Wendy's alias, Baron Seir, is a womanizer. Ariana attends the Imperial Vault reveal with Marquez Lafayette, a friend of her father's. Empress Grace & Emperor Hector attend & Ariana reveals a light-reflecting mirror with the first Emperor's portrait, earning Emperor Hector's favor & embarrassing Count Glosse. Dylan finishes repairing a vintage plate with gold (kintsugi). Ariana will invite a rich man from Linette to dinner on the same night as Rowen's party, which Florie & MIL are forging Ariana's name on invites for, to show him Dylan's plates. Barras tells Alhena that Ariana is pregnant & Ariana says it's obviously her husband's, which Alhena believes then thinks it's Baron Seir's. Wendy kicks butt at polo. Hector offers to help Ariana, but she says she'll handle it; he wants her as a daughter-in-law (24). Rowen’s ball starts with Duke & Duchess Etzelle are the first to arrive because Ariana wrote them & asked they handle things. Since you can’t start a conversation with someone of higher status, Rowen can’t even question them; everyone has a higher rank than Rowen because he wanted Florie’s husband to be higher than count. That night, Ariana hosts a dinner with a rich couple from the principality to show them the plates. Wendy sneaks in to try & steal the account book, but doesn’t find it. Rowen slaps Florie when she says she was more embarrassed tonight than when she was in a cell. Rowen barges into Ariana’s room, says he could throw her in the dungeon, that she married him without telling him she’s infertile, & Ariana says he’s taking Alhena’s claims over his wife’s. He says he needs her, but that doesn’t mean she needs to be in the best condition & she should behave while he’s behaving like a nobleman. While Wendy didn’t find the account book, he found a blue sack. Alhena runs into Wendy & learns he isn’t the father of Ariana’s baby “either” (she isn’t pregnant). Rowen locks Ariana in the annex, but Wendy gets her out through the second story. Rowen is finally hit with the bills from his sister & mother (since Ariana cut them off) (25-30). Ariana sells the restored statue at Marquez Lafayette’s auction. Alhena’s convinced Wendy must be the father & that she can’t afford to use abortion drugs on Ariana, in case she retaliates because Alhena needs her baby in case her lies get exposed. Winslet returns & learns the situation, from the cheating to that Wendy-Rowen is helping Ariana. Rowen tells Kaimo to pay his mom & sister’s bill, learns Ariana was living modestly, & is told that orders have increased, but production is struggling to keep up. Dylan learns Winslet & Wendy, are knights; they debate telling Ariana. Ariana sells Dylan’s first batch of plates for 160 million Weohn. Winslet drops Ariana off at home, confronts Alhena, telling her she doesn’t know her place, he couldn’t care less about her child, threatens the baby, & says she better stay shut up in her room if she knows what’s good for her. Winslet finds Ariana a shop, the ghost house on the exclusive blonde street. Alhena fakes sick. Rowen locks Ariana in her room & threatens to cut off the hands of anyone that helps her.

Althena has a maid accuse Winslet of assaulting her, but Winslet proves she's lying because she doesn’t know about the massive scar on his chest. Winslet asks Ariana why she's playing fair & Ariana doesn't want to sink to their level. They plan out her shop. Just having the boys around drops the renovation price from 5k to 2k (41-44). Ariana & Winslet go to Deviton to see Shula for a ceramics contract, & are able to convince her to talk to the others. Kaimo tells Rowen about Ariana's business & he accuses her of taking the bag, but Rowen says it's not her but Winslet has been around. Shula agrees & Wendy delivers the letter. Shula & Ariana agree to a 20-80 split on profit (in Ariana's favor). Ariana realizes Wendy is familiar. Wendy confirms he's related to the Crosel Principality, but not that he's the prince. Rowen comes to get them when they're carriage is stuck in the rain, but only to interrogate Ariana. Wendy shuts him up. Alhena is upset that now her maid walks all over her & that Rowen left to get Ariana (45-49). Alhena is upset that Rowen is looking at Ariana; she asks Wendy how she can repay the favor of him picking up her earring & he tells her to GTFO & never appear in front of him again, which he has to repeat several times. When Ariana comes in, Alhena finally leaves, but only after pretending that Wendy asked for a real favor, but they know otherwise. Ariana's shop is named Astaroth, Dylan's father Daniel trains the new craftsman, & by slowly sending invites & plates, Ariana's shop opening is huge news. Rowen mansplains running a business despite only having rocks for brains, & thinks Ariana is selling broken trash. Kaimo confirms Winslet was asking about the sack. Someone tries to mug Winslet, & he does get a black eye. Florie & Rowen's mother steal 2 display plates, which they try to sell & are detained. Rowen arrives in time to say the plates are real, so Ariana makes him buy them for 10 billion & fumbles the handoff, so Rowen can't tell them. Sales skyrocket at auction. Kamio warns Rowen. A member of Demonicola offers Ariana a business proposal; they plan to cut off Rowen & Kamio. Winslet & Co say Ariana should accept with Emperor Hector as the mediator, & that Harrison & Demonicola probably planned to cut out Kamio ages ago. Hector agrees. He tells Ariana to hurry up & divorce Rowen. Ariana realizes she could get married in the Saturn Federation, which allows polygamy & deal with the problems later. Rowen has been summoned on suspicion of drug trafficking & Kamio realizes Harrison made a move against him (50-58). Emperor Hector is confirmed as Demonicola's boss, says Kamio got too greedy, thinks he knows what Ariana is planning with a ticket to the Saturn Federation, & is sad to lose her as a possible daughter-in-law. Ariana tells the boys she'll get married in the Saturn Federation to cause a stir & push for legal reform that allows women to inherit titles. Wendy proposes Ariana marry him/the second prince of the Crosel Principality, but they're interrupted by the documents confirming Rowen is infertile, which is grounds for divorce. Ariana has them delivered to the estate, so Alhena will intercept them. She does! Alhena personally delivers the documents to Rowen. Rowen learns he's impotent, that Kamio knew, thar Ariana could divorce him because of it & even accuse him of fraud. Ariana & Winslet go through a box Ariana's childhood items. Wendy says Ariana was his first love, proposes, they elope, he tells her he's the younger twin & was treated as Kyle's punching bag & servant. Ariana & Rowen share a kiss for their marriage. Alhena tries to tell Rowen it's his baby (59-66).

The Doomed House's Contract Daughter

Original Novel: Harasyo ("Romance in Reverse", "The Villainess's Days are Numbered!" "Princess in the Rough" & "Toymaker Tria's Tyrant Problem") Comic: SETE ("I Don't Want the Male Lead's Child" & "Toymaker Tria's Tyrant Problem")

This does have the classic & annoying problem of "we all know the FL is their bio daughter, but no one else considers it for a long time". The art really fits the story, though the FL is way smaller than she should be for her age & everyone her age is that little.

FL is on her 3rd life. Her 1st life was likely in our world. Her 2nd was as a test subject for a mad scientist as a potential vessel for his deceased wife, & FL lived to be 24. She went back in time to when she first arrived at the orphanage, 3 months before the story starts, to when she was 10/11. Anisha still has the ancient text from the experiment around her left wrist, & it's a death sentence. She plans to ruin the scientist's life, starting by getting on orphanage director Irina's good side so we can get a noble patron instead of being "adopted" again. Anisha isn't the only one to get "adopted" & go missing. Ruler of Green Duke Shacol Audrey arrives & adopts Anisha for 5 years, after which he plans to send her to study abroad then continue to live in a foreign country under his patronage. Anisha feels a little mixed because House Audrey falls because he loses control of his magic power after his wife dies & injures a member of the imperial family, which causes Duke Alf Argo (his best friend & ruler Blue) to have to kill him; it's a matter of will she die from the text before or after. Anisha dismisses memories of a novel where a FL appears with the power of green after the house has fallen. Shacol tells 10-year-old Anisha that she's now 11-year-old Annette, who he found but she was dead. Twins Marie (buns on top) & Gold (buns on bottom) are assigned as Annette's maids. To hide her curse mark, Annette plans to have the genius scientist create Chameleon Slime by luring him out. Annette plays a good daughter for Duchess Rosanna, who coughs up blood during dinner. Annette feels bad, so she has Marie mix some roasted & ground Ryeohwa powder with water & sugar, which relieves Rosanna's cough (1-6). Shacol tells Pedro to call Marie & Gold to ask if they noticed anything strange. About 10 years ago, the empire saw a surge in anti-noble movements due to a tyrant emperor who loved indulgence, debauchery, found joy in war, drafted ordinary people into the miliary & taxed relentlessly; some nobles beheaded residents, which caused uprisings & brutal retribution, including child abduction. When her son was killed, the nanny that had been loyal for so long took Annette & Rosanna fell ill. Shacol led a coup & placed the young prince, barely a teen, on the throne. Many nobles got their children back, but Shacol & Duke Argo initially did not. Shacol believes he found Annette’s dead body, but it was charred with the necklace they gave her. Shacol reflects that if he brought their daughter back alive, she’d be just like Anisha (7). In the present, when Shacol brings Annette sweets as an apology for scolding her; Anisha thinks he’s a tsundere when wonders what that means again. She finds that he’s very weak to being called “father” & praise. Magic stones can normally only possess one attribute, but they can be manipulated: you can fuse a fire magic stone with a water magic stone at a specific temperature to create a “fusion magic stone” that effortlessly pours out warm water. A maid trips Annette & trash talks her with another maid. Annette says she’ll be sure to tell her father what they said, that she isn’t a pushover, that they’re questioning the duke’s authority, makes them kneel & apologize. When she goes to the kitchen, she has a thought of “in the novel” & reflects that she keeps having weird thoughts. Annette asks to use the kitchen in exchange for teaching them how to make cheap meat delicious. Shacol saw what happened in the hall & thinks Annette is here to tattle, but she serves him beef stew & berry pie - namely with blueberries which he loves. Annette proposes her business idea of the fused stones, & Shacol continuously thinks she wants to fire the maids - & he really wants to fire those maids & be a good dad (8-10).

Shacol saves Inos, learns Annette is still in & saves her. The kids are put on a 5-day bed rest in the same room. Annette wonders how she knew that Inos couldn't swim. Inos confronts her extreme measures (19). Inos tells Annette that she’s loved too & he accepts her as his sister, despite her protests. On her own, Annette returns to get the chimera, blackmails from 5 million to 300k & says the owner has a week to get it healthy - it’s actually so she can get the funds to buy it (20). Marie & Gold are actually 2 elite “Green Wind” knights, with the strength of 20 ordinary knights. Shatran (red/red) the head chef, visits & Shacol learns that Annette made the beef stew & regrets not praising it. Shacol tells Annette that they’ll go to the north in 2 days with a magic teleportation circle because House Argo & Audrey connected their teleportation circles, there will be a boy 2 years older than her (Capel Argo), & gives her a necklace meant for direct heirs. Capel, like Annette, was taken, but he was raised by animals then assassins. House Audrey has the power of green, which can hear all plants, control them, & heal most injuries. House Argo in the North has the power of blue, which controls water & can purify any water. Igna in the East have the power of red, which is fire. Adeus has the power of black & control darkness. Since Shacol only likes Argo, he doesn’t explain the others much. Shacol adds that when Annette fell in the water, he planted a “water luster tree” seed in her molar. Shacol tries to say that he wants her to give him the soup again, but can’t admit it aloud. 2 days pass & they’re in the North. Alf & Shacol hug. Annette is having weird disassociation as system-window-looking narration boxes say (the text in {}): {If “my records were to flood into “me” all at once, “I” wouldn’t be able to handle it. Duke Alf Argo drags Capel into the dining room & sits him down, but Annette knows this is wrong. She sits on the floor & eats bread with her hands. Capel happily joins her (21-23). Capel warms up to Annette, follows her around, holds her hand, & will only eat steak if she cuts it. The system window (SW) reminds her House Aubrey will fall when Susanna dies & Shekina Aubrey will revive the house. Annette feels like she took someone's place. A bookshelf falls, she pushes Capel out of the way & is hurt instead, but says she's sorry & she's okay. Shacol says he'd rather she be a spoiled, demanding brat than hide her pain & to think about what she wants - he knows she wants to buy the chimera. (There's an ending side story of Inos trying to get Annette doll (24-25).

SW says House Aubrey's power is a cure-all for everything except natural disease. Annette goes out to the cuff the next day & leaves a letter for Dr. Frick, who lives by the cemetery, & finds the chameleon slime cover up (26). Capel apologizes to Annette by giving her flowers. She teaches him her name & his. Shacol & Annette return home, she cuts her hair, buys the chimera, & reports to the shop on her way home. Shacol & everyone are shocked. Since Annette acts cute, blames the shop, & says it reminded her of her past because it was caged up, Shacol lets it go. He tells her composite magic stones will be commercialized (27-28). Shacol gives Annette 100% of profits. She makes it so they get the contract if she dies. Shacol says she's doing great & it feels like his daughter is here, which makes her uncomfortable. Annette names the chimera Chess, hoping it'll survive no matter what. Shacol tries to clarify because Pedro tells him that was a negative 5 out of 10, but Shacol can't be honest. He buys Annette a factory. She calls the SW “Recbook”. Recbook neither confirms nor denies that “Key” is alive, but confirms she's the real daughter as written in the book, but history is written by the victors, so Shekina might not be the real daughter. Shacol tells Annette that White Season, when the 4 ducal houses & emperor meet, is coming up, so she'll meet them all soon; it happens twice a year for 5 days. Shacol delivers her invites, including one for the scholars’ banquet that she's been waiting for; Annette was named scholar of the year & has to agree to take Shacol as her escort. During the White Season, Duke Igna (red) brags about his 2 sons, Duke Adeus (black) brags about his son & comments “this bundle of curses? […] at most, she has 7 years” & she cuts him off with a running hug. Annette says she know, but she has a 7-year contract with Shacol, so he doesn't need to know. In private, with the help of Recbook, she tells him to look for his twin brother Shade on Red Rock Mountain, in a narrow crevice a child could fit (29-33). On the way to the scholars’ banquet, Annette asks Shacol to help her find Dara, saying she owes Dara for helping her, & he says it'll take a week. The Mad Scientist, Robert White, is getting drunk, mentally venting that he won't be able to bring back “Sana” & that he might have to take money from war-funds. Annette, with the innocence of a child, mentions his paper, that he made Chess (who she brought), & that his paper mentioned human experiments. The scholars' association talks about kicking him out. He leaves the banquet after Shacol wishes him ill & puts him in his place. Duke Igna brought his son Hill Igna to introduce to Annette. Hill likes to invent, & Annette proposes a business contract. Recbook tells her the story is about to begin because the protagonist noticed an anomaly. Distracted, Annette agrees to a matchmaking meeting with Hill's older brother. Duke Igna told Shacol there are rumors of a saint with green hair that can make things grow named Annette in Jardan & agrees to investigate. Shacol tells Annette he has to go investigate Jardan & she knows he's going to meet Shekina (34-36).

Dara agrees to come with Annette to treat Duchess Rosanna, who has the same illness as Dara's husband. Shacol asks Duke Alf Argo about Annette's arm. Selem helps the sleeping Annette & it's dismissed as not a problem. Back home, Annette is preparing to debut & asks Shacol to go shopping because she wants to make happy memories (51-52). She gifts him jewelry with resonance stone for the family, minus her & says it's because she'll leave in 4 years. Annette asks that no matter what, he doesn’t bring in Shekina, who might be a void demon. Annette also made deals & contracts. Shacol says he wants to cancel the contract & have Annette be his temporary daughter, but she rejects him. He thinks she hates him. After a few attempts, Annette makes a Christmas cake. Inos & Annette go out & run into Balan Wox, a commoner that used to teach other commoners etiquette so they could get jobs before he was tricked into debt so others could buy his school, which they ran into the ground. Annette offers him a job, which he accepts. Duke Alf & Capel visit; Annette proposes they do debut prep together (53-56). Roseanna & Duke Alf show them how to curtsy & bow. Capel couldn't be less interested, so Annette asks to see them dance, which gets Capel's attention, but Alf faints after dancing with Roseanna, before Capel & Annette get their chance. Alf shares that Shacol couldn't attend their debutante because of his older brothers, who Rosanna beat up at the ball, which traumatized Alf & made the papers; Shacol managed to sneak out, but was late, so they danced in the garden. Annette's debut begins (57-60). Nix Igna introduces himself, everyone hears about the potential engagement, & Capel debuts as well. Peter from the orphanage, who was adopted by House Charlotte, calls Annette Anisha & she knocks him down, reminding him that he tried to hit her & bringing up the orphanage will be worse for him. Capel & Nix learn about Annette's curse mark when his artifact melts the chameleon slime. Annette blackmails Nix into keeping his mouth shut. There's a scuffle over who Annette's first dance should be with, but Capel says it should be who she likes, like Rosanna wanted. Annette dances with Shacol. Peter talks to Capel (61-64).

The East was its own kingdom a few generations ago, still has trouble adjusting because it’s hard to get there. Yonvanes agrees to subsidize trade in the east for 10 years because Tia & Lulac sold him a lot of grain to sell in the East. A landslide in the North, caused by their excessive logging at Lavini's demand, occurs. Perdik Angenas dies in a landslide. House Ivan can't get any help in the capital, but Tia has a plan: Pellet will sell the logs back to Ivan just enough to cover transport, Lombardi will pay for half the logs as relief support, 5 Lombardi Head Engineers construction will help w/reconstruction in the North, Ivan will accept the punishment of not selling lumber for 5 years, & the Angenases have to pay a fine of 10k, half will go to the North as relief. Leuman also gives supplies. Tia, Perez, & Avinox go to the North. The Angenases have to sell a piece of their land (West) to Sershaw (South) because they could lose their seat as Western representative if they sell more to the Western nobles. Ivan's head said he won't accept the money. Tia learns Ramona is in the North & Monarch's second in command; she believes Ramona was Perez's lover in their first life. Perez tells Ramona to come to the capital when they're done in the North & he'll keep his promise. Tia tells Avinox to confess to the woman he loves before her marriage is arranged. Migente gives Perez the info he needs to distribute the relief funds directly to the end. Head Ivan tells Perez to stop, & Perez tells him to either step down as Head or all of House Ivan will be punished. After inspecting a bridge, Migente & Tia are buried alive in a landslide for 4 days: 2 days in Houses Facent, Biltz, Banafe, & Enfaria arrive to help. 2 days later, Gallahan, the twins, & Clerivan arrive. Gallahan makes Perez rest & they finally get Tia out. Tia sleeps for 3 days. Migente broke his leg & will have a limp because it couldn't be treated sooner, but is alive & Jerome steps down & makes Migente head. Tia & Perez kiss after she wakes up (160), he tells her he'll express his love, following the advice she gave Avinox. 2 seasons later, at Lavini's banquet, they talk. Angenas has started using wood from Sershaw because they can't get triva anymore. Tia gives Avinox the proposal for the Eastern Cruise & learns he likes Lorraine - it's mutual. Perez starts putting it together. Lavini imprisons Dewey for paying some of what they owe Lombardi construction. The port in Cheshire is almost ready, Chanton visits Gallahan, threatens to block travel because Cheshire is surrounded by Sershaw, Gallahan agrees to give him priority docking - but Chanton will pay the docking fees & Gallahan acknowledges Chanton cares for his people. After Lulac's birthday, the Pellet Corp holds a banquet & reveals the Eastern Cruise! Perez learns Tia is the real head of Pellet Corp & they talk; Tia says she wants to be the Head of Lombardi & make him Crown Prince, but won't use him - but he says to use him. Chanton gets Lavini to give him a land deed as collateral for an additional loan. 3 months later, Lavini & Selal have engaged Astana & Lorraine, tells Yonvanes that even Lombardi shouldn't be able to reject the emperor's will, & the marriage will help because they think Viese will become head & the Lombardi iron mine will eventually become theirs. Lorraine & Avinox are heartbroken & thinking of each other. Yonvanes tells Lulac Astana & Lorraine will be engaged.

Yonvanes says Lulac can't leave until he approaches a marriage with Lombardi & the Durelli, which puts a lot of pressure on the royal family when the capital basically shuts down. Tia helps Lorraine run away with Avinox. She & Perez agree to a contract engagement, get Lulac to approve, then Yonvanes, who is too greedy to say "no". Lavini is outraged when her bill to make the first born heir is rejected & Lulac has returned. Viese is thrown out & his succession revoked, so Lavini throws him & Selal away. Lavini tries to threaten & get close to Tia because she thinks Gallahan will be the Lombardi Heir, but Tia shuts her down at every step. Astana says he'll crush Perez in the Lombardi hunting competition, after getting second in autumn, because he thinks he can rig the competition. Perez tries to kiss Tia, but is interrupted by Caitlin, & Tia puts up a wall; she uses it & guests as an excuse to leave. Caitlin asks Tia for time during the upcoming Lombardi scholarship event & she agrees (167-178). Bellezac confronts Tia, who tells him that if Astana is such a catch, he should marry him, he's actually mad at his parents because they're the reason he can't see Lorraine, & he better watch it if he doesn't want to be kicked out like his parents. Perez confesses to Tia & she kisses him. Perez says he'll change the law so she can be empress & head of Lombardi. Gillard Brown meets with Lulac to ask for help. The Angenases assassinated the Brown Family head & heirs then cut off the right arm of every man & boy. Ramona meets with Tia (179-180). Lulac tells Tia that she'll be responsible for them, as this is her test for proving she could become head. Clerivan meets with Dewey & Lavini for a loan contract, pretends the date is wrong so he can meet Dewey alone, reminds Dewey that Lavini has no actual power in the Angenases House because she's empress & left her family, & gets Dewey interested in a personal loan. Gallahan returns to surprise Tia & catches Perez in her room, fortunately they had stopped making out & were just on the balcony. He has an uncomfortable breakfast with Lulac & Gallahan. Mayron, Gilliou, & Ramona spar against Perez & lose their 3-on-1. Ramona agrees to teach the twins real Brown swordsmanship (181-185).

Perez & Tia go to the Lombardi stable & out riding, where they're attacked by assassins - namely Chanton Sershaw. One of the assassins uses poison from a titi spider, which Tia previously had Estira make an antidote for it & many others. Lombardi knights chase the assassins off. Tia & Perez faint. When Tia wakes, Estira says she'll prepare more antidotes to rare poisons because it's all she can do. Gallahan asks her to come with him, but Tia says she'll be head. Lulac asks the vassals about heir & they talk about Shananet & Gallahan, but Dillion & Devon say Tia. Lulac thinks about it. Perez tells his friends he's returning to the palace & breaking his engagement, but Tia shuts that down (186-190). Gallahan visits the emperor, prepares to leaves when Lavini arrives, says he's the only real heir (to protect Tia), & tells Lavini to leave Tia alone. Selal gives Bellezac a dagger & tells him to stick close to Astana. On their way to the hunting tournament, Lavini brings up naming. Crown Prince & Yonvanes puts it off; he doesn't want to name Perez because he looks like his dad & doesn't want to name Astana because of Angenas & Lavini. Lulac reveals Tia did the prep. She has Perez with a red cloak, Astana in yellow, & other participants in other bright colors for visibility because The Forest of Madness is shrouded in mist that drives people to madness (191-192). Tia convinces Yonvanes to wait until the last day to participate. At the night banquet, they have alcohol so Astana gets drunk. They introduce the Brown Family. Lavini protests, so Lulac pushes harder for the Brown Family to be reinstated as nobles; he's silently furious that Tia was poisoned. Lavini retreats to her room. Tia tells the drunk Astana he won't be served more alcohol & should comfort his mom, so he immediately lashes out & insults Tia's mother. She challenges him to a duel by proxy, with Ramona as her knight. Misogynist Astana sees Ramona & agrees, telling Vice-Captain of the imperial knight’s third division Eddian Sloan to duel, which Ramona quickly wins. Yonvanes makes Astana apologize, & the brat storms off (193-195).

Lavini & Dewey don’t know what happened with the Brown Family & Angenases. Lavini tells Astana they were both played by Lombardi, that he doesn’t have to do anything & she’ll put him on the throne, but he has to stay at the hunting competition. Lavini returns to the capital. Tia explains the hunting tournament rules. Perez tells Astana not to run into him. Astana’s team panics as they circle. Lulac warns Yonvanes that Lavini might poison him & tells him Tia prepared everything. The demonic energy makes people anxious & crazy. Astana’s team is a mess. Perez kills a monster in front of Astana (196-197). Lignite & Tedro make a show of giving Perez a flash of something that cleans up the madness brought on by the forest, & Bellezac swipes one off them. Yonvanes & Tia enter the forest with the imperial knights. They run into Perez’s party. Meanwhile, Astana only has Bellezac left &, totally mad, says he’s going to kill Perez. After Yonvanes is attacked by a monster, Perez gives him his red cloak to be more visible. Perez warns Tia to be careful. Astana sees the red & tries to attack Yonvanes, thinking he’s Perez, & Astana’s made more upset by the imperial knights protecting him. Perez cuts off Astana’s arm. Yonvanes tells Perez to escort Astana back to the palace in chains (198-200).

Back in the capital, Bate reports more people than expected are still on Lavini’s side because they formed marriage ties; they agree Perez probably drugged Astana. Tia tells Clervian it’s almost time. Lulac tells Yonvanes that the rumor that an Angenas killed the Brown head is making rounds, & that Astana trying to kill Yonvanes is punishment for the Durelli Family turning their backs on their loyal subjects. Lulac suggests bringing the Brown Family reinstatement up & the next meeting & Yonvanes agrees (201). Astana realizes that the flask Bellezac had was drugged. Lulac reflects that Tia will be ready in a few years, but collapses on the stairs when he gets home (202). Lulac tells Tia to attend the upcoming meeting as acting head. Lavini tells Dewey to frame Bellezac. Perez tells Bellezac to write to Selal or he’ll die: framed for attempting to kill Yonvanes, drugging Astana, & he’ll get disowned from Lombardi (203). Lavini tells Chanon they need to stop the Brown family from being reinstated. Chanon tells her he’ll need more territory: the repayment period has passed, so he wants the money or collateral. Ultimately, Lavini hands over the land deed. Lavini tells Chanon that he better vote in her favor & return the land once she pays him. Chanon tells Lavini he has plans for the land, so she better pay him fast. Tia arrives & no one thinks she’s acting head, even when she sits in Lulac’s seat (204).

She was finally able to bring them home when she found 3 had been poisoned because someone mixed pesticides into their food. She ran off to look for the 4th cat & was hit by a truck in the dark. Seo Ensu transmigrates as the villainess "Lewayne Rarsel" in "The Princess's Hound" (a romance between Cadis, a canine therian & Princess Alaine). Lewayne canonically becomes the old Emperor's mistress, abuses her power & commits vicious crimes. Seo Ensu decides to take Linie's marriage with Duke Blua, also so Linie can run away with Nigel, the gardner, that she loves. Dimitri Blua immediately knows it's Lewanye. The Emperor is already interested in Lewayne, & she kissed Count Herman at the last ball. Lewayne sneaks into Dimitri's room at night, says she knows he's in pain & can heal him. She heals him, but also is like catnip & he wants to eat her up. Dimitri dreams of Seo Ensu & her cats, who sent her here "So please make her happy" (1-3). Linie was sent from Count Rarsel's house. Lewayne reproposes marriage to Dimitri, she doesn't want to be sold off as the Emperor's mistress & he doesn't want to marry the emperor's illegitimate child & be spied on. Therianthropes are treated as slaves. Dimitri's mother was raped by the duke until she bore a child, Dimitri, who was the sole survior on the battlefield & made great contributions, making him the first & only therian duke - & she can heal his curse. She proposes 3 conditions: 1. loving in public, 2. divorce after 3 years, 3. mutual respect. Dimitri insists Lewayne is wearing perfume, but she's not. Lewayne & Linie return to Count Rarsel's - Rarsel was promised a diamond mine & Lewayne was promised a palace. Rarsel slaps Lewayne, Countess says they can't hurt her face, so Lewayne slaps her own face to buy Dimitri time as it heals. Lewayne confronts Nigel (Linie's love). Lewayne says she'll help Nigel & Linie run away again. Dimitri shows up & gives Lewayne a magic contract for their marriage - she reads nothing & signs. Lewayne returns with Dimitri, who lends Hael (blue) his demon to go break Count Rarsel's wrists. Lewayne walks in the garden & sees Dimitri in cat mode; she cries over her lost cats. Dimitri wonders if this is really Lewayne, the notorious woman who abuses & kills therianthropes. Lewayne helps Linie run away with Nigel. Dimitri & Lewayne have a meal together & she says he's cute - the cherry tomato is cute! Dimitri says she should join him in his room - she rejects it & flees. We see Lewayne through Dimitri's eyes - green scale (4-8).

Lewayne gets a tea invite from Lady Kayetana Elbas, who poisoned Dimitri's mother & fed him magic poison. Dimitri cute cat moments & trauma (9). Lewayne makes Argen her personal maid & tells her to assign Tilda a different position. Lewayne shows up, isn't greeted, writes she was by, starts to leave, is stopped, she's wearing pants & is criticized. Lewayne says she hasn't had time to unpack. Kayetana (black/green) has a maid spill tea Lewayne, they make her change into a maid uniform, & there's no chair for Lewayne (10). Dimitri crashes the tea party to find Lewayne sitting on Kayetana's lap. Lewayne knocks the chair back, so Kayetana falls, as she gets up. Dimitri realizes Lewayne is strong. Hael notices Dimitri looks happy for once. Lewayne realizes she needs to clean house, but doesn't know anyone. She gets her allowance: 40 million Fennies (~16k USD) (11). Lewayne sees Dimitri for healing - once every 3 days. She asks for more allowance, & he says 60 million fennies, & tells her to work on her negotiation skills. Lewayne asks if she can hire/fire people, he says she can discuss it with the butler, & asks her about her perfume again. Lewayne runs off. Cute night cat playdate (12). Lewayne goes shopping, saves Coco, brings him home - & Dimitri is soooo jealous. Dimitri comes in person, rubs on her, plans to protest Coco, but caves in under Lewayne's pleading eyes. Coco brings Lewayne notes on who is a spy, stealing, & otherwise sucks. Lewayne asks Dimitri to free Coco - but he's naked. Coco goes free, but returns injured. Slavers working with Count Bilbao show up to demand Coco back or money for him. A maid says it's true Coco's there. Dimitri says how dare the slavers call Lewayne a thief & insult House Blua. Dimitri uses magic to choke them, & they run scared. Lewayne, Dimitri, & Coco have some garden playtime (13-17). Lewayne gives Sophia & Derick a schedule & work changes for the staff. Sophia protests - Lewayne insists. Derick accepts without argument. Argen reports that some people are vocally unhappy. Coco warns Sophia & some servants are on their way. Sophia insists they get their original positions, Lewayne says they were given more money for the new ones, they insist. Lewayne says it's unfortunate, but they're all fired "if you're so unable to do the work […] best to go our separate ways". Sophia asks if Dimitri knows & calls it an abuse of power. Argen hands Lewayne a notebook, & she reads off people's crimes: Hughes embezzled magic lamps, Raon stole leftover fabric, Soni stole food, Arty stole cleaning supplies - the list is too long to read (18). Sophia still tries to protest - Dimitri appears & says they're all fired without letters or severance - & that Lewayne should use his name instead of "your grace". Coco & Lewayne go catch some rat therians because they can take human vitality with a nightmare demon (Lewayne wants a demon heart).

Princess Alaine arrives with Cadis! To explain her like for Alaine, Lewayne says she likes pretty people. Dimitri says Cadis has to stay in the dungeon because he doesn't like dogs (55-57). Alaine is pleased with her welcome & treatment. Lewayne sends a bottle of wine because Alaine is secretly a big drinker. Kayetana's nephew, Dief Lyon attends the welcome party & mentions she was attacked by rat beast folk, & another lackey stops Lewayne from winning the argument by knocking over tea. Lewayne & Alaine go riding. Alaine is still suspicious of Lewayne, who was going to become the king's mistress, so Lewayne shows her the shelter. Lewayne gets drunk, compliments Dimitri, & he kisses her (58-60). Lewayne initially forgets their kiss, but remembers & rubs from Dimitri. Coco explores outside & overhears two servants from House Schudenthal saying “feline therians summon rodent therians” & that the demons they summon are stronger than nightmare demons. Elbas poisons Lewayne on the chance she is pregnant. To save Cadis, Lewayne stops avoiding Dimitri & asks to talk about last night (61-62). Lewayne says she was drunk, doesn't remember, it was a mistake, & he should forget it. Dimitri is a little hurt, but tells Lewayne he won't forget their kiss & she better remember it because next time won't be a mistake. Grandma learns Kayetana drugged Lewayne's cup (63). Lewayne, Dimitri, & Sasha go to the woods so Sasha can make her contract with a demon (64). Lewayne tells Dimitri she can see his demon, which isn’t normal. 2 demons are summoned & one says Lewayne is their contractor, they got souls from her kids in exchange for bringing her here. Dimitri banishes it for now because she's distraught. Sasha succeeds. Kateyena tells the count they need to replace Dimitri (65-66). Dimitri tells Lewayne that her first night her cats told him to take care of her, but she had dark hair, & it must be because of their wishes that Lewayne can heal. Dimitri says that Lewayne’s demon's name is Agaliaraft. She summons it but can't hear what Agaliaraft says. Dimitri relays that Agaliaraft says it helped with her memories. Dimitri warns her that it might control her so she needs to be careful (68-69).

Adrisha & Hikan are worried about Cederic because he said he's in love with Dahlia. He proposes after she thanks him for helping Hikan. Dahlia rejects him, saying she wants to date before marriage & he's not her type because she wants someone "full of love" & describes an extremely caring & generous person. Under pressure, she agrees to teach him then gives him 5 books to read 10 times & submit 5-page book reports for each. He finishes in a few days & she's summoned to the palace. When Dahlia asks why he hates people but loves her, Baron Wales interrupts. He was sent by Hikan to give a lecture, as the author of one of the books, but Dahlia falls asleep. Hikan & Dahlia go & Dahlia learns Arthur is actually Meldon & he's connected to Cederic. She still decides to let it go because there are still orphans who need aide. Dahlia has fun with Hikan & Adrisha. Cederic writes back & sends a self defense item (57-63).

Cederic reminds Dahlia of Véord Mesein, who sides with Aseras in the game because he offers to cure her of a potion effect. Her sister, Séord was worried about aging, got a potion to stop her from aging, but Véord drank it thinking that it wouldn't work, & has remained young. She has the power to neutralize magic. Dahlia asks around about how to find someone in the underground & Cederic asks her to take a guard, Wayne. He finds the potion maker & helps Dahlia contact Véord. A week later, Dahlia has to use the mark Meldon gave her to stop someone from stealing her bag & she tells him to go to the orphanage. They run into Meldon's father, Meldon arrives because he can tell when & where Dahlia uses the mark. Dahlia tells Véord she has to do 100 good deeds & tells Meldon he could become head of his house (81-88). Véord neutralizes Dahlia's ring & agrees to keep it a secret, & to go back to her house as her first 2 good deeds. Alexandro makes Dahlia a new ring. Dahlia learns that Cederic paid Wayne. Dahlia agrees to be Cederic's partner at his birthday ball (89-90). At Cederic's birthday ball, Dahlia meets Empress Séord, who doesn't look her in the eyes (91-93). When the Séord asks to speak with Dahlia to apologize, Eridon Mass, Count Mass's daughter, butts in & calls the necklace that Cederic gave Dahlia on behalf of the empress a fake. Dahlia tells Cederic to go after his mom & confronts Eridon (94). Eridon makes a scene. Felix Artus comes over & whisks Dahlia away to propose. Véord interrupts by hitting him. The scene draws Hikan, who is furious to hear someone proposed to Dahlia & Cederic, who feels the same. The ball ends before Dahlia & Cederic can dance, but she says there's next year. Duke Artus is upset his son failed to win House Phesterose & that he was hit. He leaves the house to plot revenge. Cederic visits Felix to threaten him. Felix tells the duke to make someone else heir. Duke Artus gets an invite from Hikan, who says the duke & Felix should apologize to Dahlia, but Duke Artus lashes out & refuses. One of Aseras's men offers him a potion to make a Transcendent lose control (but he doesn't accept yet). Dahlia goes to Hikan then Véord to get approval for Meldon joining the Artus family, but Véord has 2 conditions: 1. Get Duke Mesein's approval 2. Calm Séord down. One of Aseras's men gets to Séord (95-101).

Duchess Blueport writes that she'll approve. Merida Artus visits Dahlia with the Artus family seal because Meldon becoming duke is better than the strangers wandering her house. Merida happens to be Séord's lady-in-waiting & is willing to connect them. Since she was a villain in the game, Dahlia is hesitant. Dahlia goes to the palace because Véord & Séord used to exchange diaries (letters) by hiding hints & there's one with Séord's favorite book. Dahlia learns Cederic can read negative emotions without even touching someone. Séord has locked herself in her room. Aseras sees Dahlia in town & grabs her, but the ring prevents any healing. She pretends he's Meldon because he's wearing a hood then runs to Adrisha. Cederic warns Dahlia about Kelsion, who can brainwash people. Dahlia & Cederic find the book with Véord's first hint. Meldon appears to give Cederic a report109 (102-109). Cederic finds Duke Artus's card in Dahlia's bag, destroys part of the manor, & gets the real seal from Merida . Duke Artus makes the deal with Aseras, the potion in exchange for killing the man previously captured by Hikan & 1 more thing. Dahlia & Adrisha find more of Véord's hints for the diary. Séord is worse, so Cederic goes to Dahlia, who asks Merida to introduce her as a friend. Dahlia gives Séord the letters, she cries, & calls for Cederic. Séord & Cederic reconcile (110-116). Cederic thanks Dahlia (117).

At Duke Zevillion's birthday, Camilla gives him a brooch with defensive magic, made by Duke Sefra; Duke Sorphel (her escort) already received one & Ludville too. She's using them as models. Petro's sister, Elicia, actually hates Camilla but pretends to be nice (45). Her friends say Camilla must have cheated. She says with grades like theirs, they should have, tells them to act better, drops her cup so Dukes Sorphel & Zevillion come running, cries to her dad that people think she cheated, Zevillion chews out his daughter. We learn about the Guardian Sword, that the swordsmanship ghost is impaled with, & Elicia pushes Camilla down the stairs - Petro sees (46). Petro catches her. House Zevillion sends gifts & puts Elicia on probation. Camilla looks into sword guardians. Ludville also knows, so she asks him. There was a cult called "the church of Eva" that promised people eternal life, by sacrificing others, usually poor, powerless people. Mars rose up with his guardian sword to defeat them then disappeared. Camilla asks the ghost, Zeno Zevillion about the sword & his twin. Mihai killed Zeno, took the sword & his place. Zeno decided that all Mihai's accomplishments being recorded in Zeno's name & everyone calling him Zeno was punishment enough. His ghost stuck around because he liked the sword & never found a worthy partner. Camilla lets Zeno possess her to duel Ludville. At the end, Camilla collapses, Duke Sorphel tells Ludville he is only letting it slide because she said so. Derrin & Ferrol scold Zeno for taking it too far; he promises to go easier next time. Ludville tells Camilla it's okay if she doesn't want to talk about it, as long as she doesn't lie to him (47-50).

Camilla was poor until her mother found Duke Sorphel passed out, nursed him, & he fell in love with her kind heart & beauty. Duke Sefra tells Camilla she should start her own company for the mana stones. Alsian isn't interested in Lila & doesn't like sweets even though he ate the whole cake slice Camilla brought for Ciel when he passed on. The hunting competition is soon, but Camilla hates Crown Prince Edsen de Fabler who hates her, but he sent her a handwritten letter when he normally excludes her (50). Camilla plans to hunt instead of deal with tea & the ladies. King follows her (51). Edsen approaches her, insults her, asks about her foresight, tells her he used to want to draw his sword when she shook for no reason, but he doesn't want to today. Camilla tells him she can't pick what to see or when, only that he won't win - because she knows he'll be injured (52). The idiot that praised Duke Sefra & got beaten up by Alsian tries to approach Camilla & thank her, but Alsian beats him up. She says that's why he's not popular & isn't getting a brooch like her brothers. Edsen catches Camilla telling Zeno she can't kill a living thing. Edsen says she's lost her mind. She says not only can he not win, he'll get hurt. Then an explosion at the hunting camp, where Ravi is, happens (52). Ravi is fine & treating people, Camilla cries & tells him he can't die. Ravi & Alsian heal people. Ludville & Petro collect survivors. Camilla says it's weird none of the soldiers came when the explosion happened. They come as corpse-puppets. Camilla lets Zeno possess her to change morale & win. Dorman kills one to protect Ravi, even though he'll receive a penalty. Camilla collapses when it's over (53-54).

A lot of people died, including visiting nobles from other places. Camilla realizes the whole thing is very strange, with it all being done to put Edsen in a bad spot & leaving no trace (55). Edsen sent Camilla a letter & gifts. Ludville & Duke Sorphel have been in daily meetings with others about the incident; the second prince Abijel is suspected, but there's no proof. Ravi locked himself away to study healing magic. Camilla brings him food, hits him, makes him wash up, & has the staff clean his room. He feels useless, so she tells him his bracelet saved her life against Xavi (56). The student council president, Meris Gavuel (daughter of Marquise Gavuel, who previously had a monopoly on mana stones), is the ring leader bullying Baron's son Kevin Brian, who leaves because of it. Camilla rejects Meris's bouquet, so she picks Lila as the next target, but she's too naive to notice they're bullying her, so they start pouring cold water on her & tripping her. Camilla asks Zeno for help (57). Lila was also bullied as a child, but the young Camilla helped her then too. The idiot that praised Duke Sefra & got beaten by Alsian leads Lila to Meris, who has water poured on Lila & says she'll cut her hair, but Camilla saves her (58). Lila was not bothered by Sia being in Camilla's body, saw her mother abuse her, & then Camilla was gone, so she was happy to find her again (59).

Camilla recorded it & leaked the video. The magic tower (Head: Cador black with purple under/gold exhausted) cut off business with Marquise Gavuel. Camilla made a deal with the others, if they severed ties with Meris, she would remove them from the video (60). Camilla goes to a volunteer event with Lila & Petro, at an orphanage, & the ghost of the former director possessed a teddy bear to keep taking care of them, but her soul will stop existing because she's been chosen as the guardian god who will look after the next generation of children, so Dorman's new boss former report) Havel asks for help - in exchange for not taking Zeno, Ferrol, & Derrin to the afterlife. She doesn't want to leave because she doesn't like how her son wants to run things, but didn't feel loved & was raised like the orphans. Camilla delivers his mother's box of his first things to him & tells his mother to watch him. He loves the children & is thinking ahead (61-64). Camilla & Alsian join the volunteer club. Camilla finds a recording of Ludville's mother (65). The duchess went on a solo trip, her carriage overturned, & her body was never found. They meet Lania from the temple, who looks like the duchess & has her bracelet & is sus (66). Edsen attends Camilla's birthday party & tells her she's annoyingly pretty when she smiles while she lies so she should only lie in front of him. Alsian steps in (67). Camilla asks him not to cause trouble on her birthday. Lania appears & calls Duke Sorphel father. They send her to a drawing room & Camilla asks if the duchess really died in a carriage accident (68). Anna was a dancer, they married anyway, she ran away when Ludville was 5, Duke Sorphel couldn't find her, announced her dead, and, according to Raina, she passed away 2 years ago, leaving behind a letter. He doesn't like her calling him father. Lila tries to comfort the mostly suspicious & fine Camilla (69).

Lania tries to take Camilla's place, bringing the duke a snack, sitting in her spot, & trying to make Camilla look like a jealous stepdaughter. Camilla accepts the challenge. There's an identical ghost following Lania around, but she doesn't react to anything. Camilla's Ghost Guild, headed by Chris, referred by Duke Sefra, is doing great. Magic accessories & stones are selling well. Duke Sorphel gifts Camilla one. Camilla puts on tears, says Lania should be getting it, he comforts her. Lania lends Ravi a rare book on healing magic (70-72). Duke Sefra tells Camilla that Ludville, Alsian & Petro don't like sweets, even though they ate hers. She sibling-bullies Ludville a bit before giving him a black tea pudding. Lania brings waffles. She says Ravi is teaching her magic. Camilla goes to leave & Ludville walks her out, saying Lania doesn't need to bring him anything. Priest Daniel is upset with Lania's slow progress, he entrusted this body to her & has high expectations (73).

The church is trying to plant someone into the Guardian family; Lania seems terrified when Daniel tells her that Lord Alberto has taken an interest. Daniel will create an opportunity for Lania to be recognized. Camilla shows Lania around school. Alsian heals Camilla's hand, which was cut by Lania's pen when she was filling out her application. Alsian tells Lania not to talk to him or say his name. Duke Sorphel is glad Camilla's still doing volunteer club, even though she dropped swordsmanship. He feels uneasy when Lania calls him father (74). The volunteer club takes the kids on a picnic. Camilla has Zeno & Derrin scare off the water ghosts. They play in the water. Ferrol rushes to tell Camilla Duke Sorphel collapsed (75). Lania poisoned Duke Sorphel with the plan to cure him after everyone panicked, but Camilla used Herschel’s parting gift to cure him & realized this is her home (76). Daniel & Lania realize they need to get rid of Camilla, Camilla says Herschel told her about the antidote in a dream, & Camilla finds the culprit, who kills himself. Lania tells Ravi she wants to be family & he rejects her. At an auction, Ghost Guild wins the Ahreas Iron Mine, that’s also a blue diamond mine, with a bid of 21,387,000 gold; Duke Sorphel congratulates Camilla on the win & word gets around. He knew Camilla was the owner because the Ghost Guild donated to 13 places in the Sorphel name. A ghost from the river asks Camilla to find her son, Dennis, who was left at Sky Orphanage. Lania learns that Camilla is looking for Dennis & offers to help, in front of Ruben (77-79).

Lania & the person possessing Dennis poison Camilla to knock her out; Lania says she saw Dennis’s mother’s dead body. Camilla confirms they need to kill someone to take their body & that someone’s behind the scenes. Lania drinks some of Camilla’s blood & takes on her appearance. Beth, the water ghost, got Havel, who frees Camilla & explains that dead people are taking the bodies of living people, killing the living & forcing their spirit to follow their body even though the link has been broken & they’re dead; if the name of the dead person possessing them is called, it will force the spirit. Havel demonstrated by calling “Alvro Harrison” who possessed Dennis. Havel also gives her a little something. Everyone thinks something is off with “Camilla” (fake Lania), but Petro immediately attacks her, takes her to the mansion & says it’s not Camilla, with Aslian, as the real Camilla appears. King roars at the fake, which weakens her, & Camilla calls her name “Aria Hillon”, which forces her out. Lania’s body turns to dust. The real Lania tells Camilla her mother was part of an organization (“sect”) that planned to take over the house for something, but Anna fell in love with the duke, so she ran away with Lania to protect her. They were found 3 years ago & both killed. Camilla lets Lania possess her to hug Duke Sorphel & say good-bye to her dad (80-84).

At the orphanage, Camilla dotes on Leo, & Alsian gets jealous. Camilla & Lila open a cafe next to the Ghost Guild shop. Bellac gives Camilla flowers, making him the first person to do so out of romantic interest; Ravi & Ludville chase him out & ruin the flowers (85-86). Edsen’s “mother” (his stepmother, mother of second prince Abijel) sent assassins again, but he won. He & Camilla will be part of a delegation for the new prince of the Gracia Empire, for the coronation of their new emperor, who was the second prince (87). Edsen has a private meeting with Camilla, who gives him a blue diamond ring, which he knows she gave so he’ll market it for her, but he says he likes it & doesn’t mind being used; she's already given rings to the dukes. Alsian gives her a bunch of divine beast gems (which a beast can only make once in their life) for protection (88). In the Gracia Empire, Zeno tells Camilla that Mars used the sword of protection to wipe out the Church of Eva. They greet the new emperor, Duke Kais Eskra, & Count Altuon (the duke's aide). The duke is a little rough around the edges, but Camilla is no pushover during negotiations. There's even more snow during the coronation, a crying ghost woman, & 3 dragon spirits (89-90). The dragon spirits “The Great Spirit Rulers” explain Aysla was Mars's friend & is upset that he was betrayed by the woman he loved, who became empress. The ghost of Empress Mariana de Gracia asks Camilla for help, & leads Camilla to her diary (91-92). Camilla offers Duke Eskra a 3% discount on magic stones if he agrees a 3-year exclusive contract for seasonal goods with House Sorphel - they'll buy Spring - Fall items from them, only if they need them. When Camilla motions to shake & Duke Eskra’s hand, he notices her ring & asks where she got it. She says it was her late mother's. They sign the contract. Camilla tells Aysla that Mariana's child was Mars's. Camilla uses one of the divine beast gems from Alsian to let Aysla see an illusion of Mars. Winter comes to an end. Duke Eskra reflects Camilla is from his "lost year" (93-95).

Aria is put in the ruler’s seat & kind of reconciles with Henry, sending him off on a journey to learn how the people of the ocean are, which was his childhood dream, but he must report back to her. Henry’s butler uses the last of his magic to curse Eve with the truth, which reveals her ears, but everyone already knew (from the time she got drunk). Eve asks Noel to imprint, but they need a key from the human world. When the human Queen gets a message that Noel’s mate revealed the truth, she realizes he was telling the truth & Eve is her granddaughter. She sends a fox-kin to abduct Eve, but they impersonate Julie, so Eve picks up right away & places a trap (56-70). Eve & Noel go to the human world to meet her grandma, the human king, Therese Azulier. Therese shows Eve Aden’s childhood; Eve gets to learn how her parents met. She went to see Henry’s father, who lied & said that Aden forgot the human world & she’d only bring him pain. Therese believed him & he extorted magic gems from her. In the present, Therese reveals that Aden and Eve had two types of magic: ice & nullification. She asks Eve to stay with her, with Sion, but Eve declines & asks for the key to remove Noel’s limiter. Therese asks if Aden was happy, Eve says he was, & that Therese supported his love of plants. Hearing that, Therese gives Eve the key. Therese asks if she can see Eve & Sion every now & then, & Eve agrees. Noel & Eve head home (71-75).

Eve reveals her ears & is unsure how to feel because everyone knew. She returns to her grandma with Miya to work through her emotions. While there, she learns about a mysterious benefactor that saved her ancestor but was never found; she also has dreams of Noel in fire. Eve realizes that everyone loves her & she should return home. Traffickers try to abduct her, but Noel burns them up & breaks down (76-80). Eve tells Noel she loves him & wants to get married. Noel & Eve return home & start planning the wedding. Eve brings Sion & Rahel to the human world to meet Grandma Therese, & so Eve can ask her to walk Eve down the aisle in place of her father. Sion & Rahel stay with grandma while Eve & Noel continue the wedding prep. We get Miya’s backstory & Miya is then basically adopted by Noel & Eve. Noel's condition is getting worse, but he keeps saying he's fine (81-85). Noel says his magic is too unstable to imprint right now. On the wedding day, the Western Chief gives Eve earrings with "earth" that can even give her "time". At the altar, Noel starts to lose control. There's an ancient spell on Noel that has to be dealt with before the key can be released. Eve turns her nullification into a magic stone so Therese can amplify it to help Noel. It calms him down, but he's passed out for 2 weeks, so Aria can have time to read the spell. Therese amplifies Aria's magic so Aria & Eve can enter Noel's memories, where they see the north destroyed & Eve's mother with Noel (86-90). Eve is told that Noel's mate was apparently her mom. Eve tells Therese that she'll go back in time. Rahel gives Eve the ring from long ago & tells Eve to find her. Eve is found by a merchant-thug Theo, who "has business with Lily". He tries to take Eve, who gets away with the help of Raven, Lily's older brother. When Eve sees Lily, she immediately recognizes her as her mother's past life. Eve says her name is Lily (91-93). Eve gives Lily the strength to reject Theo, who has been harassing everyone around her since she turned him down (94). Eve is kidnapped & taken to the North in place of Lily. The wolves trying to steal Noel's heart trigger him setting the castle on fire & Noel finds Eve after she escaped them, but thinks she's one of them (95-97).

Fenrir fell in love with someone his family didn't approve of & they broke things off, but he got a letter saying she was pregnant & had died, it took him 8 years to find Elthea, & he sucked at being a dad. A girl named Alisa appeared claiming to be his real daughter, who resembled his lover more, & he showered her with love. Alisa told Elthea she was being added to the family register, Elthea confronted Fenrir, who continued to be harsh on Elthea (who he was trying to make his heir), & she ran away. Alisa was revealed to be a fraud planted by the orphanage head & Viscount Bisten. Ailette says she would have ran away too. They find a petrified Elthea surrounded by petrified monsters. It was a curse from the boss, so Ailette has grandpa Fenrir agree to keep it a secret & uses Divine Advent to use Baptism of Purification to release Elthea. Fenrir is a follower of Lord Voice. Elthea is shocked by how much Ailette has grown, apologizes for not being there, & promises to be there now. They hug (I cry). Elthea says she doesn't have a dad when Fenrir shows up. Fenrir apologizes, Ailette gives Elthea a push, & Elthea says she'll consider visits. She says he better punish Hakeem Sarmatan for abusing Leonard, & Ailette adds more. Since she's a duke's granddaughter, it's a classic trope of a childcare RoFan. Ailette declines being duchess to respect Elthea's wishes & asks them not to tell anyone as she passes out (37-40). Her family is reunited! A month later, Hakeem has been punished, but Leo doesn't care. Bianca convinced her mom to give the Rodeline's a house, Elthea became Countess Sandra's personal guard, & Elthea gives Ailette Europa, S-Rank sword from the dungeon. #2 in the Demon Realm, Demon Lord Karpeios in the Abyssal Dunes tells his lackeys to investigate the executioner of evil (41-42)

2 years later, Ailette finally completes her 1k days of prayer, unlocks divine power, & hers is already Saint level, above cardinal. Ailette converts all the money she saved up to 100 mil for the shop to buy everything related to divine power. Elfenheim learns someone reached Saint-level. Elthea asks if Ailette wants to go, but she declines & says she has Bianca here. 13-year-old Bianca is going to Vilhelon as well, but to study the unstable political forces. Ailette warns Bianca about the 1st & 3rd princes & 1st princess. She gives Bianca her birthday present early, a hair accessory that boosts charm. They all train in their perspective fields, Ailette unlocks aura, & the Transmigration Bureau releases a new update: the Skyscraper of Suffering (which has 300 floors is instead of 100 because Ailette is OP) is now available for transmigraters to challenge. Sir Clovis is scolded for not finding the saint. His father is the one that brought in the orphaned stigma bearers. The stigma bearers were transferred to the Heretic Judgment Bureau of the Holy Prosecution Ministry, still treated as disposable, & are being sent to purify the Agony Area (full of heretics) & convert people. Clovis reminds Tesilid that people who don't convert are excommunicated & no longer people so you have to kill them & it's not murder. Tesilid wonders if there is really any goodness in the Strict Order & Goodness. Agnes says Ailette can use Europa & they start the Skyscraper (43-45). On the 15th floor, she uses the "Infinite Zombie Spawn" to grind her heal skill to level 10. In a week, she reaches floor 100. 101 uses a jungle & takes a day. Tesilid is in a cell, accused of sinning. He saved a lot of people, but is the only stigma bearer that hasn't killed a heretic. Elphael brings him food & water. Tesilid thinks of Ailette. The time it takes to clear Skyscraper floors increases as Ailette climbs. Her skills continue to grow. Around floor 240, Agnes starts teaching Ailette the whip sword. She uses dragon skeleton to repair her farming skeletons, give Helveros a fire dragon heart, & Prinz comes to visit! He brings news of Tez. Ailette misses him & wishes she could see him before she's 20. Ailette gets a whip sword, Serpenthe. Ailette's currently rank 28 in this world. Karpeios gets Tesilid to kill a bunch of "heretics". Timeskip to 6 months before the start of the novel (46-50).

Ailette spent 2 months on floor 298, learning to balance on a small boat to beat S-Class demonic monster Ciel. She ends up using Siege Barrier as a standing surface, beats Ciel, & gets mermaid's tears & Spirit Lord's Harp Strings. The Architect of the Skyscraper of Suffering begs her to wait a month, so Ailette charges up & ends up on "floor 299", but it's actually the S-class dungeon slime farm cave & the Architect confesses floor 299 isn't done, so he connected her to a random S-Class dungeon. He's disheartened that she basically beat the tower in 7 years, even with a patch to make the bosses stronger. She pulls up IRSW in her library, looks for the slime cave, & finds it's a chapter with duke's son Lord Raewyn Wallenstein, who is cursed by this dungeon boss & prevented from properly bonding with Tesilid. The Architect begs her not to kill the boss, but she's roped into drama when spotted by Father Joachim, who provoked the sleeping boss, got his healer killed & is blaming others, & got 2 dungeon raiders killed too. Joachim says it's him or Ailette, so she reveals her healing & he assumes she's from the Vatican too & tries to cozy up. The party: "Ray" (Raewyn Wallenstein, who is second to Prinz & dejected to learn she's Prinz's sister), Ash (Ash Night, of the Nighthawks Assassin Guild, regularly sent after Tesilid, & pretending to be a rando), Frese (a child sucked into a sink her in sleep), Joachim, mage for hire Seijin, & the Golden Apple Raiders Captain Anne & siblings Kyle & Kanna. Rank 711 in the demon realm & dungeon boss Obscuria the Demon Devourer corners them. Ash reveals he's an aura user to protect Ailette. The boss marks them as prey, which instills fear & means it can open a dungeon sink around them in the future. Ailette says the Architect will have to write an apology letter, uses Siege Barrier to protect everyone & reveals her aura & whip sword technique to beat Obscuria. The TM gods flip at the notification. The 3 people eaten are saved: a healer, Richier & Gentis. Ray falls for Ailette & asks Ailette to visit him in the Wallenstein duchy to be knighted, but she says she already knows a duke, so it's not necessary. Ailette holds Ash back & says she won't let him pass if his final target on this mission is a child. He throws a knife past her, she ties him up with the Spirit Lord's Harp Strings, he surrenders & says his target isn't a child & he won't go after anyone she's close to. From the dungeon, she got "Overturned Food Chain" , a passive skill that increases the chances of a critical hit against foes that eat humans. She hurries up the stairs to floor 300 & enters S-Class Dungeon Hill of the Holy & Corrupt, where Tesilid is about to be cut down & saves him (51-57).

Echinacea “Eckie” Roaz passes the preliminary test to become a Firmament Knight, in a dress fit for a ball. Most countries barely have any swordmasters, but the Order of Firmament is made entirely of swordmasters that can imbue their blades with mana & use aura. At the top are the Kiosa Owners. Eurien, the current captain is the youngest person in history to become leader of the Firmament Knights and owner of the Holy Sword, Lang Kiosa. Vardere Kiosa, the cursed sword that forces its wielder to kill & caused Echinacea to kill everyone she loved in her first life with her own hands, including Eurien, the only person who believed in her. Vardere taught Echinacea how to turn back time, so she’s gone from 35 to 20; she doesn’t know that Eurien remembers. In Echinacea's first life, she killed her loving family, territories fell, & it took 4 Kiosa knights to take her down. Eurien knocked her out because he believed she didn't want this & was still inside. Vardere's bloodlust side eventually tricked a guard, escaped, killed everyone there, & Eurien when he returned. Echinacea continued to wander, kill, & suffer for years before reclaiming her body. Vardere then explained how to turn back time. 9 years later, she succeeds & returns to the day she first held Vardere, because a maid accidentally picked it up & was taken over by it. Sword myth/lore in 4 & 5 (1-5). Echinacea asked Nicole Sizton, a sister-figure, mage that House Roaz sponsored, & the only person to actually hurt her once possessed to look into things & protect the family while she's gone. Alice Winterbell, Echinacea's roommate accuses her of being extravagant & unknightly then challenges her to a duel. Ian Pelletro offers to oversee. Ian also tells Echinacea about clubs, the ranking system, & that Eurien picked her as a squire; she’ll train under Ian for the 1-month probation before being formally assigned. Echinacea remembers that when she was taken over by Vardere, Ian threw civilians in her path to escape & offered to send more people her way if spared. Echinacea wins the duel against Alice. Eurien runs into Echinacea in town (6-8). Eurin says he saw Echinacea at the banquet last year, asks why she wants to be a knight, asks for a spar, & says he’ll tell her why he picked her after they spar. Ian introduces his fellow third-year, pervert Brad Von Fohm (9). Third-year Varaha Islaf offers to be a witness to Echinacea being sexually harrassed & offers to guide her instead because he’s the squire to Vice-Captain Baron Tillius. Echinacea realizes he dies during the upcoming hunt & decides to save him, so she has to rank in the top 3, & might as well be first (10-11).

For final rankings, the top three first years that will join the hunt are Echinacea, Alice, & Mikhail. This year’s hunt is at the White Raven Canyon, which was a battlefield last year. Dietrich Sarla greets Echinacea; in the future, he’ll have a Kiosa, but right now he has a normal rapier. Dietrich explains to Varaha that Echinacea isn’t his lover & he shouldn’t help set up her tent, especially because people are already whispering & she didn’t ask for help. He also says that geniuses like Eurian (& her) are crazy, he likes her dress, she looks pretty, & he hopes they get along. Eurien gives Echinacea an affectionate smile & she thinks that’s an insult to him because she killed him. When it looks like it will rain, Eurien has everyone return to base camp, he goes out alone to kill a bunch of specters, which can attach to & control humans. A rift opens up back at camp, which didn’t happen or Eurien would have known. Ian stabs Varaha & pushes him into the rift, & Echinacea sees. Echinacea pulls Ian in with her. Rifts are dimensional breaks believed to be remnants of the divine sword Raqia Kiosa, forged from space, unlike Kyros which observes time. Ian says that Varaha & Echinacea “snatched away what should have been mine without putting in the effort”. Echinacea realizes he won’t change & kills him with Vardere. She revises her resolution: she doesn’t care if someone targets her, “but if anyone lays a finger on one of my people, I’ll never forgive them.” Echinacea finds Varaha, who pats her on the head & promises to protect her, even though he shakes & is worried. Varaha launches Echinacea so she can pierce the break in the rift, but the monsters notice. He catches her & starts running, but she knocks him out to kill the monsters with Vardere. Varaha wakes up to see the half-transformed Echinacea; he’s honest about it. Echinacea says she doesn’t want to kill him, so he can’t tell anyone, that she’s trying to become owner of a different Kiosa (that’s the only way to keep her memories), she lies by saying it’s the only way to abandon Vardere, & explains a 20-year-old swordmaster would attract too much attention so she’s waiting until she’s 23. When Varaha says she came in to save him & it was a hollow threat to kill him, Echinacea knocks him down, straddles him, & puts her sword by his neck. He pats her head & says not to worry because he won’t tell. He realizes he likes her. Vardere says the rifts might be related to Kyros, & that the more Echinacea changes, the more rifts might appear. Baron wonders what Echinacea means to Eurien because of how worried & fragile he seems when she’s in the rift, when he’s normally very cool & collected. When Echinacea gets out, Eurien runs & hugs her with a look that makes her think he might love her (17-27).

Season 1 summary is here. Season 2 is below. If you're looking for a couple that communicates, I do recommend this series. It does take a little time (almost no one gets up to speed as quickly as Lithera & Pellus), but the communication starts in season 1 and continues.

Sidar got away & likely fled West. Exaggerated rumors make Lara out to be the greatest villainess in high society. Himena, Eunice, & Sonette know Lara is the Saintess. Damian & Lara interrogate the captured Dark Mage who says Sidar came to them & bowed before Valac. Lara hasn't found the God's name, so Damian introduces her into Arcelus with the magic lamp. Arcelus asks Lara to come to the Tarragon & Lara says she will, but needs him to find the name of her god. He also asks that Lara not reveal she's the saint & that she help him talk to god. Connie tells Lara that Valentine made a magic lamp too & they used it to talk all night. Lara asks Valentine to make more & gives him the diamonds needed. Arcelus tells Lara the god's name. Damian tells Lara that he wants to stay with her. Lara asks to kiss him & they spend the night together (44-48). It's the god of fate, who tells Lara not to worry about Valac unless he gets a body, but he's picky. The god also says Lara's powers are weak because she doesn’t know him & to find his real name. Valentine succeeds in making a lamp. Damian, Lara, & co set out for Tarragon. Sidar escapes when royal knights raid the dark mage base, but accepts Valac, which results in black vein marks on some of his body, & he finds Lara. Lara treats Sidar's wounds. She sets up a magic lamp, hidden in his carriage, & one in hers. Lara, Damian, Valentine, & one of the Wolves (knights) listen & hear Sidar talk about himself like he's someone else. Lara explains that Sidar is already possessed by Valac, but he doesn't have his full powers & seems to just want to play around (49-52). In winter, they arrive in Dandelion, capital of Tarragon. Lara goes to Lara's Garden, a large hotel ran by Isadora & meets Arcelus, who agrees to take custody of Sidar/Valac (53). They go to the temple, where Lara gets a cryptic clue & says she'll get power as demons do wicked things. Arcelus says Valac drank poison & pretended Sidar died after he pretended to want to meet a friendly demon. Arcelus says he was once kidnapped by a demon & rescued by Damian, so he wants to know all there is to know. They line up a summer epidemic when Lara awakens her healing. Damian meets up with Domino, Rampion, & Oscar, who agree that love comes first. Oscar tells Lara that the empire had them sign slave contracts, when they couldn't read, & they've been destroyed, but perception doesn't change so easily; he also tells her they found Damian in a destroyed city, not crying. Rampion & Damian are arrested trying to buy sweets when Rampion declares they're not knights, they're barbarians & accidentally breaks something (54-57).

Lara visits Damian in jail & threatens the guards. She tells Oscar to write to the roughly 2k barbarians in the mountains to tell them to stop hunting monsters because they're going to hunt demons & she'll pay. This will force the imperial knights to deal with the monster instead. Valac tells Arcelus he'll tell him how to beat Lilith, the half blood demon of the north, in exchange for a few favors: he wants Damian & to drink Lilith's blood. The god confirms that Damian isn't human. Lara tells Damian to sneak out of jail. She thinks God picked the wrong person because she'd go back 20 times to save Damian. He isn't surprised that he could become the Demon King & tells Lara to kill him if he ruins what she loves, but she loves him. Arcelus finally learns what happened to Damian & co, apologizes to the barbarians that arrive, & reflects a little. The people are first confused then panicked when the barbarians leave the west. The emperor calls the nobles, knights, & Arcelus out on their cowardice. He sends knights to the west & tells Arcelus to go north with a squad to fight demons. Arcelus asks Lara to reveal she's the saint so the people of Tarragon are at peace, even if he dies (58-61). At the victory banquet for Arcelus, the god gives a show for people to believe in Lara. Lilith just wanted to accumulate "karma" so both sides would come out & fight each other because she hates them both. Arcelus kills Lilith. Lara chases out priests that can't use divine power, since they're not devout. The emperor says he wished he had a son that could have married Isadora. Arcelus returns & is suspicious. Lara calls him out for it. Valac bit Arcelus & told him that he'll die if Valac does. Valac is being ostracized by other demons for eating Lilith. Lara confirms it works both ways. Spring is coming. Valentine is working on a long distance lamp. Lara moves into the newly cleaned out temple & starts looking for relics. Damian & the barbarians plan to set off to take out Dark Mages with just manpower, to avoid tipping the scales in the demons favor by using divine power (62-66).

The series starts after the wedding, while Maddie & Yullikian (in drag) are running away from Rhamda, then goes back "a few months". Yullikian Kuhn Rondenez is the rightful heir to the throne, as the son of the previous Crown Prince Haylden & Princess, but Yullikian's uncle, Emperor Raphadit Paragon Rondenez, killed his brother & sister-in-law to take the throne. Yullikian's mother was poisoned & told him to survive. Yullikian pretends to spend his nights drunk & gambling. He meets Maddie on a night she got out of jail after 1 day of being locked up for getting blacked out drunk. Maddie follows him out, but is attacked by Josh, who is looking for his wife; Maddie helped Josh's wife run away because he was abusive. She shoots Josh in the leg, which triggers Yullikian. Maddie steals his brooch & plans to go drinking with it. Yullikian reflects on his mother's slow death from poison, how his father went missing for 3 months before showing up in a lake… too bloated to be recognized; both his parents had blue fingers. Maddie shows up & saves Yullikian from being murdered. She returns his brooch & takes the money off the bodies. Yullikian proposes a marriage contract: 1 billion for 3 years. He suspects she's a missing noble, but Maddie is covered in scars & dismisses the possibility; she is missing memories of her life before age 17 (1-4). Yullikian & Maddie have a dramatic, public proposal; she moves into the mansion & immediately catches Miley poisoning the sweet potatoes. They learn that Yullikian's maternal uncle, Count Montenejando, paid Miley. That night, Yullikian tells Maddie she can't steal things, kill at random, or run away, & that he reported the murder of the assassins to the authorities, so he can report her if she tries to run away. Maddie & Yullikian shake the bed to making people think they're having a lot of wild sex. Yullikian tells Maddie not to kill Count Montenejando because they need 3 family elders to approve their marriage. Maddie wins over Reilly the maid when they're sent to get a dress for Maddie to meet Count Montenejando in. Since he tried to poison Yullikian, Maddie serves him absinthe, revealing without out right saying "I know you tried to poison Yullikian" by even drinking the poison from the bottle he gave Miley; he leaves in a panic. Maddie promises to take out Yullikian's attempted murders quietly & without a trace (5-10).

Maddie visits Knox, her friend & partner of 7 years; she tells him to get close to Count Montenejando & get all his family secrets. Raphadit sends Yullikian a letter saying he'll pick Yullikian's wife. Maddie gifted her coat to the coachman to give his daughter, so he'd stop glaring at her. Crockton Vynil visits Yullikian to protest the marriage; Yullikian thinks Crockton is his one true friend. Crockton tells Yullikian he saw Maddie with another man. Maddie gets the drop on Crockton by pulling a sword with her quicker reflexes; Crockton realizes Maddie is a personal guard & thinks she will delay his plans, so "Although I feel sorry for Yullikian, I can't let that happen" & reflects Yullikian should have fallen in love for real. Yullikian berates Maddie for how she treated Crockton, says he's his only friend, that not everyone scams people for a living, & she needs to get her personal life in order - mentioning Knox by his "brown & orange" hair since he doesn't have a name. Maddie takes off on horseback. Since everyone in the slums knows Knox & Maddie aren't lovers, she figures that Crockton either got bad info or sent the one following her; she sends the horse back to the estate & starts looking into Astrid, who she heard Crockton mention. 3 days later, Maddie returns looking rough. Yullikian says things he doesn't want to because he was worried she wouldn't come back. Maddie wins over the rest of the servants with a "so this is what it's like to have someone waiting for you" speech (11-16). Chalomet Batolrose, daughter of a count, shows up without notice saying the emperor ordered him to accompany her to the upcoming Imperial Ball. Yullikian rejects her & tells her to leave. Maddie runs in, kisses Yullikian, & runs off so he runs after her. Butler Philip tells Chalomet he can't show her to a room because Yullikian told her to leave. Chalomet slaps Philip twice & goes for swing 3, but Maddie grabs her by the wrist. Maddie removes Chalomet's glove & slaps her with it, challenging her to a duel. She beats up Chalomet's maids when they try to stop Maddie, & Maddie throws their gloves in Chalomet's face too. Maddie throws them both to the floor, complaining that Chalomet won't accept her duel, so she finally accepts. When Maddie lets go, Chalomet sees the bruise on her arm & slaps Maddie. Yullikian arrives, outraged that Chalomet beat his butler, who is like family, & his lover. He tells her to leave & if she's so desperate for a date, she can wait outside the palace all night. Maddie reminds Chalomet that she accepted the duel & slaps her so hard that Chalomet faints. Yullikian goes to the palace & tells Raphadit that he loves Maddie & can't attend with Chalomet or anyone else. Philip tells Maddie that Yullikian's sister was declared dead because she had a disability, but she was still alive, at least for awhile after someone set Crown Prince Haylden's palace on fire after his death, which caused her mother to send her out of the palace; it's believed she has a child (Astrid). Maddie says she's loved Yullikian since she first saw him, & we see someone else, likely Haylden during his missing 3 months. Maddie tells Knox that she took care of the people spreading rumors. Knox says Count Montenejando was the only relative to keep a relationship with Yullikian after his parents died, he's had a lot of debt from gambling & mistress at the horsetrack, his wife is an extravagant spender & cheating on him with her personal guard; their money problems are rumored to have gone away when his mother-in-law died & left them an inheritance, but this isn't true & since Knox can't find the source, it's probably Raphadit-related. She'll spread rumors about Countess Montenejando's affair while Knox goes in disguise to win over the count by letting him win big then introducing him to a bigger game & more debt (17-20).

Since Maddie doesn't have an invitation, she's not allowed into the ball. They make a huge scene, then Yullikian spends his time inside looking out the window rejecting all food, drink, & conversation. His cousin, Mielle Paragon Rondenez is a little disappointed because she likes him & has an interaction with Raphadit that makes me want to hope he's being framed - but I will not he fooled! Yullikian runs out when he hears someone won't leave Maddie alone outside (he thinks she's going to kill him). We meet Rhamda from the opening chapter; he calls Maddie "Yann", says he always believed she was alive & would come back for him, & triggers a memory of a blurry boy waving. Yullikian arrives & heads home with Maddie; he doesn't believe that she doesn't know Rhamda & decides to dig into her past, but finds Knox in disguise & asks him for the info. Meanwhile, Maddie goes to see Astrid & ends up saving him from Crockton's kidnapping plan. Members of the Harban Gang, identifiable by the 5 dots on their hand, were involved. Maddie has a flashback of being held while injected with something. She kills the kidnappers, knocks out the nanny, & leaves Astrid with Knox. She hops into Yullikian's bed, which makes his heart race, & they end up messing around, laughing, & falling to the floor. Maddie reveals she met Astrid, which makes Yullikian's heart race for different reasons. She tells him that they made a deal with their lives on the line & shouldn't have secrets, she trusts no one, their relationship is business, & to get dressed to go see Astrid. On the way, Maddie says Astrid was being abused: dressed in thin clothes, malnourished, & beaten with a thin rod. She comments "I'm not a waste" which Yullikian calls attention to as being weird. Maddie says the nanny's probably dead because she & Crockton were in on it; we see that before taking Astrid to Knox, Maddie met with Crockton (in disguise) to confirm he was the kidnapper. Yullikian remembers that 3 years ago his sister, Luvidia, stopped his carriage, slid in a note that explained 4-year-old Astrid lost his ability to speak after seeing his father murdered & she was worried for his safety, thurst Astrid into Yullikian's arms, & fled. Until this point, he thought Luvidia might have died in the fire because his mother wouldn't tell him where she went. Unfortunately, Yullikian & Crockton find Luvidia dead a few days later. Yullikian entrusted Astrid to Crockton & hardly visited because of his guilt toward Luvidia. Maddie learns Astrid is a boy that's been disguised as a girl to protect him because Raphadit only has a daughter too (Mielle). Maddie has another flashback, being told to forget who she used to be & seeing a man with gold eyes & glasses. She has a moment of panic then goes to introduce Yullikian to "rich old widow" Lady Alma, one of her personas. As part of a test, Maddie offers to hide Astrid; Yullikian passes because he rejects her offer & it pisses him to be tested, though they both want to live with Astrid. Yullikian asks if this display of her ability to disguise herself was so he can't ever find her, but she says it's because she hopes he will see her in everyone that passes by & know she's still alive. Maddie cries a little & faints (20-32).

Cardin Haim is from Ailsan Principality, which was much smaller & she was the 15th princess, so the marriage wasn’t looked upon positively. Empress Cardn now only eats food from Rondenez to help assimilate & be a strong mother of the nation. The pirengshy in Rondenez have a massive tax, so they’re way too expensive to be worth it. Maddie knows this & gets her to agree to personally write the invite. Chalomet screams that her daddy said she would be grand duchess & Maddie should just take some money & leave. Maddie says assassins would be cheaper because the price is too high for Chalomet (41-42). When Chalomet asks Rhamda to kill Maddie, he kicks her out of the carriage when it goes over a cliff. Rhamda thinks of Yann/Maddie as a dog. Yullikian gets hurt protecting Maddie in a carriage accident, & is knocked out for a few days. When he wakes, Maddie cuts herself to show she heals quickly, he says he still would have protected her because she feels pain, Maddie realizes this is what Philip was talking about when he said Yullikian opened his heart to Maddie, Kayle the carriage driver is fine, & Yullikian asks Maddie to comfort him. He misunderstands & thinks she's acting, so he acts in love & carries her to bed (43-46). Maddie realizes Yullikian was acting & hits him so hard he forgets. Crockton finally visits to say Astrid is missing. Maddie visits Countess Montenejando to turn her against her husband. Maddie gets the deed to the Montenejando House & hands it over to Yullikian, stressing that she did it legally. Yullikian asks Philip yo get a ring because he's going to propose (47-48). Maddie got a name from Countess Montenejand, “Shubitllia Hiltom”. Yullikian realizes Astrid will end up like Knox or Maddie if he stays with Knox much longer. He worries that Mielle won't be able to take the throne because Empress Cardin comes from the Ailsan Principality. He believes he has to eliminate Yullikian's claim to the throne. Raphadit looks at a letter from “Alexyou” & thinks it will work. Maddie makes another appeal to the empress, who tries to pay her to leave. Rhamda tells the empress that Maddie is his & asks her to prevent the wedding. Yullikian is invited to Chalomet's funeral (50).

Absolutely beautiful comic! & I love a RoFan with ghosts ("Fortune-Telling Lady", "My Otherworldly Marriage", & the canceled "The Wallflower Who Was Proposed to by the Tyrant").

Yijae Kang was an orphan that could see ghosts, was unlucky, & ran odd jobs for “Granny” the shaman of Yeongsan. Granny warned Yijae to avoid water & valleys. Hailey Duncan drowned herself the day before her wedding & Yijae Kang possessed her. Duke Duncan beats Hailey as Yijae starts to put things together. King Rodrick Perus Blake of Kaien, Hailey’s fiance, arrives & stops Duke Duncan. Yijae is overwhelmed by the number of vengeful spirits. Her memories of Hailey’s life are incomplete, but she remembers Hailey liked someone. Rodrick tells Hailey he can’t support her love because he can’t go down in history as a king any more unlucky than he already is, but if she insists on dying, she should die wearing a crown. Rodrick & Hailey will marry in 4 days, the spirits nearly make Rodrick kill Duke Duncan but he doesn’t, & he leaves knights to protect Hailey from Duke Duncan. 4 days later, Hailey’s memories are still incomplete, but Yijae knows that Rodrick’s first fiance died “in an accident” & the second was poisoned. There aren’t any spirits attached to him today. There’s a spirit with long white hair & blue eyes at the wedding & holy energy, at the altar. Rodrick & Captain Zade of the First Order of Knights talk about how the first two fiances were probably killed by Duke Duncan & Hailey isn’t as naive as they heard. Rodrick suffers from “Mania”, nervous breakdowns, insomnia, & headaches. When Rodrick arrives in their bedroom, he's surrounded by spirits again. Yijae recognizes he has an almost holy energy, so the spirits shouldn't be doing this. Granny warned her not to interfere with spirits or they'd interfere with her, but Yijae sends the spirits away; she's not strong enough to exorcize them yet. 4 days later, she hasn’t seen Rodrick. Yijae put talismans to ward the spirits away. She finds a tiny, crying spirit that lives in an old cracked box, & asks Yijae to put a talisman in. 4 days later, Yijae is sick, but carved a prayer bead bracelet from wood. Head maid Deborah reports that she’s sick & Zade reported smelling something burning, ashes, & a carving knife in Hailey’s room, so Rodrick visits. Rodrick takes the knife before she can finish craving totems. Yijae decides to read Hailey’s diary (1-6). Duke Duncan wants to send a spy. When Yijae goes to talk to Rodrick about it, her prayer bracelet dispels the spirits when she hugs him to stop him from attacking people (7). Deborah helps Hailey get Rodrik to end the meeting & have tea. Hailey notices that Rodrick's Gi is blocked & starts clearing it up like she used to do for Granny's customers. Rodrick passes out. His head falls into Hailey's lap & he cuddles her so she can't leave. She falls asleep, he wakes first & has her moved to his room. Yijae wakes in Rodrick's spirit filled room & is relieved when Deborah appears (8-9). Yijae learns Hailey was in love with "Lawrence". 15 days after their marriage, Rodrick asks to eat dinner together for the first time. He plans to ask her about Duke Duncan's letter because Zade got him a copy, but Hailey clears away his headache & brings it up first; he tells her it's her choice, she makes him laugh by asking if it's more fair (than die or die wearing a crown) & says she'll reject Duncan (10).

odrick gives Hailey the nice bracelet. The librarian that accidentally told Hailey the book she wanted was only for the royal family (because they know the language) confessed to Rodrick, so Rodrick invites Hailey to the royal family’s private forest, “Arthur’s Forest”. The forest is full of clean & pure energy, so Hailey tells Rodrick he should come more often & spar with Zade. Rodrick agrees to return her carving tools. Guardie reads to Yijae, repeating that Melin, Russel, & Duncan left the Damion Empire for Arthur Lux Blake. Someone reports to Rodrick that the reconstruction efforts of the Damion Empire have been subdued again, & Rodrick says they’ve been saying it for years & should actually nip it in the bud. Duke Duncan says Rodrick should reinstate Albert Duncan, who was “demoted without reason 3 years ago. How could the queen’s older brother be merely the vice-captain of the southern army?” Rodrick says the late king gave Albert a position he didn’t deserve, the duke is insulting the royal family, & he won’t show the duke mercy. Rodrick visits Hailey to vent, she laughs & keeps carving. He asks her what the totems are & internally Deborah, Zade, & Jimmy reflect that they’re clearly not dildos like they thought. Hailey just says it calms her heart. He says it’s a hobby that doesn’t suit her age, she says he doesn’t seem his age, & when asked, replies that he doesn’t look like someone 8 years older than his wife. Hailey laughs & he pinches her cheek for giving him a hard time. She asks him to place one of the totems by his bed & says they’re to ward off evil spirits & nightmares. Hailey talks him into taking both of the ones she’s made “so they aren’t lonely”. An embarrassed Rodrick leaves (18-20). Yijae read that Hailey planned to ask her lover Lawrence to run away with her even though she knew he'd reject her. Rodrick slept well, but the evil spirits cause a rampage, & Yijae has to use her breaking prayer bracelet to help him. When he wakes up, Rodrick tells Hailey to stay away next time, which she rejects. He falls back asleep. Hailey asks Zade how long Rodrick's been like this & it's been 3 years since he ascended to the throne. Jimmy & Deborah bicker. Jimmy pictures Rodrick as a panther cuddling with Hailey as a fox. Rodrick visits Hailey to ask her to make biscuits like a cat, mistaking her shamanic practice of helping his Gi circulate. Hailey is extra cute in this chapter. Her prayer bracelet is on its last leg (21-23). First King Arthur’s ghost teases Yijae, he says her name, asks if she wants to know what sin Rodrick committed to be cursed then says he can’t tell her, & he helps Rodrick when he comes running from sparing with Zade because he sensed Hailey by the lake. Hailey tells him to go to Arthur’s forest. Both of them want to get closer to each other, but can’t really bring themselves to. Rodrick does try to tell Hailey he’s mad & monster, but she covers his mouth & tells him it’s not true. Duke Duncan really wants the hunting competition to happen, but Hailey doesn’t. Zade confirms that Rodrick’s first two fiances were poisoned by Duke Duncan; he’ll continue to investigate. At the next meeting, Duke Duncan pushes the hunting tournament again (24-26).

Yijae wonders why she can recall Hailey's childhood better than her later years. Rodrick catches a squirrel & decides to bring it home alive for her. He kills a snake on the way back. Rodrick has an extra sweet moment when he goes faster once he sees Hailey, jumps off his horse, & hoists her into a hug. He gives her the squirrel. Zade wins the hunt. When he returns the bracelet, Yijae sees the snake spirit & she can't handle it because she finds snakes really gross. The squirrel goes to Arthur's Forest. Yijae avoids Rodrick for 4 days until he passes out at his desk & Zade carries him to Hailey's room. Rodrick wonders if Hailey has the magic powers that existed about 400 years ago & asks her why he feels at ease; she says that maybe her positive feelings are reaching him. She tells him to use her, but he refuses. Rodrick asks to kiss again, says he was joking when she rejects him, loses his mind when she kisses his cheek, kisses her because he wants to check something, & asks if she's a fox (33-35). Through their make out session, he confirms she's someone important to him. He tells her to end things with Lawrence properly & he'll wait. She's uncomfortable because people find her uncomfortable once they get close to her & she doesn't want that to happen. They cuddle & fall asleep. Yijae intimidates a ghost when she wakes up. She removes the talismans to challenge the snake ghost. With Guardie's help, she wins, but sleeps terribly & asks Rodrick in the morning to not kill another snake. The message to future kings says to remember to guard the mysterious powers of the 3 families, but names 4: Duncan (Hailey), Daimon, Mellin, & Russell. Duke Duncan ask Rodrick to reinstate Albert, who couldn't even catch half as much as Zade, so he's rejected, & says Rodrick is stopping Hailey from seeing him - which Rodrick isn't, so he intimidates the duke. Hailey & her squirrel are carving wood. Rodrick brings up what Duke Duncan said, so Hailey offers to meet with him & reminds Rodrick that she said to use her. This upsets him & he tells her it's because it's cold of her. He sulks, so Hailey holds his hand & asks him not to be upset because it'll make her sad. Rodrick kisses Hailey, reflects he'll lose every argument with his wife, & asks how often they can kiss, suggesting at least every day (36-38).

Zade asks Lawrence Irvine to review the report on Hailey because it's so inconsistent. Lawrence confirms the report sounds like Hailey, but Rodrick says it sounds nothing like her (Yijae). Yijae asks Arthur for help again, is rejected, teased, & told Arthur & Rodrick have similar taste. Rodrick kisses Hailey at the lake. Hailey asks to sleep in his room, to investigate. The guardian totems have taken a beating, so she says she'll make new ones. She asks if Rodrick committed a great sin, & he says no, but he is king so anything he does hurts someone. Yijae opens up about herself a little & there's a great panel of Yijae walking a path while Rodrick says he feels like someone just walked by, realizing that's the face she's been hiding (39-40). Yijae uses the totems to banish the worst of the other spirits & warn the remaining ones not to mess with either of them. Yijae falls sick, so they stay in her room. When Rodrick says he'll sleep in his room, she asks him to stay so he says it every day just to hear her reply. Yijae knows she's uncertain about his feelings because he doesn't know about her power & reflects that honesty is important in relationships. Arthur hasn't been at the lake. Lawrence shows up, Deborah tries to stop him, Yijae sees him to try & end things. Hailey cries, so Yijae has to run instead. Zade tells Rodrick, who asks if Hailey cried. At dinner he jokingly says she was cheating on him while he cuts him her food. She asks to sleep in his room, so she can keep taking out spirits, & she's fine sleeping in separate rooms. He says to sleep together & she can consider it a punishment for cheating, but she says a punishment wouldn't be this warm. Rodrick & Hailey makeout in the hall before he says they need separate bedrooms tonight because he's going crazy. Yijae starts having audiences with people, so Duke Duncan crashes. She rejects his offer for servants, tells him it's Albert's job to get a position for himself, that she didn't ask to be queen, that she's not trying to ruin House Duncan but he ruined his daughter's life, & that he should stop committing evil deeds or he'll regret it. Rodrick tells Hailey he wants to know more about her. He takes her to see first King Arthur's portrait (41-44).

Arthur tells Hailey it's against the rules to get involved, so he won't. Reconstruction forces of Daimon attempt to invade at the western border, so Duke Duncan asks Albert be reinstated there. Rodrick says he'll consider it. He reviews the message to future kings & the translation confirms it's the 3 families from Daimon (not 4 including Daimon); it says not to trust Duncans. Rodrick tells Zade to bring the prince. Yijae gives Rodrick a carving of King Yeomra, one of the rulers of the netherworld, to protect him. They make out before going to bed. Rodrick wakes to find Hailey on the floor & wonders how many more lies he can take. When Yijae asks to go the temple (to conduct a ritual for Hailey's soul), Rodrick rejects her & even gets angry because that's where she tried to kill herself. Rodrick introduces Hailey to his younger brother Edgar, who Yijae vaguely remembers, is the scholarly type, & is assigned to the Western border so Albert can't be. Yijae asks Rodrick why Duke Duncan is obsessed with it & he asks her the same. Yijae learns Hailey's family line is Rodrik's enemy (45-47). Yijae exorcises enough ghosts to put up a barrier in Rodrick's room tomorrow. When Edgar departs, with a foreigner he met on his travels, she hears Rodrick tell him that if anything happens to Rodrick, Edgar must protect the kingdom. Rodrick's room has returned to how it was before, so she can't put the barrier up. She falls to her knees, sick & tired. Rodrick thinks it's because the totems are broken & promises to keep & cherish them both still. He knows she's lying when she says she just wants to go to bed. When he falls asleep, she clears out half the spirits with the help of the Yeomra carving. Rodrick wakes up to Hailey laying on him, covered in her own blood. After the initial panic, a physician, & returning her to her room, he begs her to tell him. Yijae pushes him away because she doesn't want him to now she sees ghosts & to find her uncomfortable like everyone else, but he persists that he wants to protect her & she deserves to be protected (48-50).
