also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.

One week since Oliver passed away, rest in peace. ♡

Hearing about the tragic death of Oliver Tree has shaken me. I loved his music and his uniqueness.

I had tickets to see him in fall and was going to surprise my brother with them.

Instead, tonight we played through Oliver’s songs and sang along, as we hugged each other.

He was a special guy and his music got me through a very tough time in my life.

What a terrifying and pointless way to go. All the destruction and deaths are so painful, and my chest hurts when I think of what all the victims families must be going through. I hope you are happy wherever you are now.

Rest in Peace Oliver.

June 29th, 1993 - June 14th, 2026

I know this may be insensitive to some people, but some of us had interesting opportunities and locked in during the COVID shut downs and it actually was kind of a positive time for the internet, weird fashion, Gen Z/Millenial music, online education, and online work in general.

For me, after his passing, I realize Oliver Tree represented this time. The good in the bad. He came to my attention when I was coming back to Internet memes and there was that cute duck video on Instagram walking along to his song. I remember it made me feel so happy at a time of uncertainty and I hyperfixated on it for a while. It was so cute and it was a good song!!!

I know right now the young people and the millennials are glamorizing 2016 and feeling like the time to be alive is passed, but really life is what you make of it. I look back at a horrible time in history with optimism, one day people are going to stop talking about Oliver Tree, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and AshNikko. I know when I do hear their music again I’ll feel this pit in my stomach that’s been the swirl of anxiety, excitement, and learning, that’s been left by the 20’s.
