Upon A Star*

I came upon an April midnight dreary puzzling around about a query: what can I do to celebrate a month of something so very great? After thinking so many thoughts that I felt swamped, I decided to create a poetry prompt! My friends also though it would be swell, so you’re more than welcome to use it as well: 

1. A poem about how you start your day

2. A poem about living the #millennial way

3. A poem about adulting hardcore 

4. A poem about a caffeinated drink you adore

5. A poem about feeling a little plump

6. A poem about being in an overall slump

7. A poem about the procrastination monster of panic

8. The same poem written as a haiku, a sonnet, and a Limerick

9. A poem that has a visual component

10. A poem that is about whatever you want

11. A poem intended to be rapped or spoken out

12. A poem about the months or the seasons 

13. A poem about believing or not in bad luck

14. A poem with 14 lines (it doesn’t have to be a sonnet, so don’t feel stuck!)

“Two for”

A effective drink is not needed, but enjoyed

An efficient drink is one needed, but endured

Tea in this aspect is a twofer, because it titillates the senses and treats the symptoms. 

Any sort of energy drink simply drains me of my happiness, and you see, coffee is just not my cup of tea.

Tea parties for one are highly encouraged by me, but never be selfish with your leaves

*Adulting*

An eighteenth birthday seems such the milestone

The walls of childhood breached, adulthood finally reached

Free to vote, free to move out, free to be whatever it is you’re meant to be.

Experience, though, has shown that being an adult doesn’t have much to do with how many years one has survived, 

Rather, it relies more upon how independently one has thrived.

There are certain things one must do before they can truly be considered an adult,

and though I endeavor to do so, I feel I cannot honestly be one in name until I complete these necessary tasks.

And so, if anyone asks,

and at the risk of my mother’s disappointment,

I am not yet truly an adult.

I looked up what a millennial meant 

What year, what age, what caused me

to be considered lazy, self-entitled, 

Like-I-deserve-a-trophy-for-showing-up type of person. 

Surprisingly enough, the definition just said 

“one who reaches adulthood sometime around the year 2000.″

No indication of someone who can’t be useful in the workforce,

No blaming someone born in the late 20th century for the world’s problems.

So the fact that I can be considered one of those people doesn’t mean I’m not the dedicated and driven dreamer and doer that I’ve become

So, even if I have to fight some deluded preconception that we’re all glued to our iPhones.
