The concept that I really wanted to get across here was comfort. Plaid/flannel is a staple in my wardrobe, and I have one in nearly every color. I wear plaid so much because its comfortable and I can make it work for nearly any day with any outfit. I took out my most worn ones and hung them on the closet door, which is where I hang my clothes the night before so I can make getting ready that much easier in the morning. The first thing I think of when I see these shirts is how comfortable they are, and I can’t wait to have them on. This was easy to bring together and not worry about actually having to tell a story rather just showing the pictures and it just being understood that there wasn’t a hidden meaning of any kind or agenda, just is what it is. A series of photos showing comfortable button-down plaid shirts.

For this series, I wanted to keep it fun. These images are related because the common theme is comics and coffee. I have such a love for these things because they tie back to moments in my childhood that helped contribute to the way I developed as a teenager, and now as an adult. I placed some of my favorite written works next to my reusable coffee cups. These are the cups I always reach for when I sit and read at home, My favorite color is black and it always has been, I only got into yellow as an adult because my mom says I needed a ‘happy’ color in my life and I reached for the yellow cup in the first photo and it’s just stuck around. I love that cup. I have decorative skulls everywhere in my room, so I put that in the series for consistency since the comics/graphic novels and cups change.

In these images, I commandeered my nieces baby stuff to help tell my coming of age story. When I was born, I was the first girl, so my mom covered me in pink. I had all kinds of booties and bows that were just pink. When I was about 1 I was actively playing with toys and wore hand-me-downs (I couldn’t find anything Barney related so I used Peppa Pig as a stand-in) once I was a toddler my interests were in books and little handbags. My cousin would like to outfit match me with her and our shoes. She bought me my first pair of Converse. When I came into my formative teen years, I was a full-blown angsty teen who would retreat to her YA (young adult) novels and listen to all kinds of punk. Pop punk, folk punk, punk rock, and eventually I fell into sub-generas like emo, metal, and alternative music. All of which lived on my iPod. I went through so many of Converse and Vans’ shoes in Jr. High and High school they were my most worn brand items that I owned, I’d stick to hand-me-down clothing and bargain shopped school supplies so that I could get a new pair of shoes for my birthday, that usually fell at the start of the school year. Now in my adult years, I still have a love for reading, art, and music just a little different and more diverse. I still like YA, but I read a lot of thrillers and dystopian fiction. I’ve grown and I wanted that to come through more than anything in this series.

            The third photo was our still-life portrait. The skull in that photo was the first decorative skull that I ever bought that has since led to me buying decorative skulls every chance I get. I love them, I love the way they look, and I love seeing them in my bedroom. My makeup brushes sit next to them because I love makeup and the artistry that I create with it. The headphones live on my head 90 percent of the time I’m home; I listen to podcasts and music when I’m studying or doing schoolwork. Lastly the Doc Marten boots, those are two of my most worn pair. I have worn and collected docs because I see them as good investments and are my favorite boot brand ever. Everything in the third photo is a huge reflection of my interests and loves.

I don’t think there is much of a story to this photo honestly, it looks to be getting dark and the composition and colors really made for an interesting photo. the blues look matte and contrast with the black and white so well then the pop of neon purple really pulls everything together. the composition made it stand out to me because it sort of falls in the rule of thirds, and to be honest getting it off to the side instead of dead center gave it an eerie edge and depth, in my opinion.
