Your headcanon is your headcanon. The characters in your mind are what they are, and nobody is trying to take them away from you. Think of the Good Omens TV series as a stage play: for six full hours, actors are going to be portraying the roles of Crowley and Aziraphale, Shadwell and Madame Tracy, Newt and Anathema, Adam, Pepper, Wensleydale and Brian and the rest. Will they look like the people in your head? The ones you’ve been drawing and writing about and imagining for (in some cases) almost 30 years?

Probably not. Which is fine.

The people in your head and your drawings are still there, and still real and still true. I’ve seen drawings of hundreds of different Aziraphales over the years, all with different faces and body-shapes, different hair and skin, and would never have thought to tell anyone who drew or loved them that that wasn’t what Aziraphale looked like. (And a couple of years after we wrote it, I was amused to realise that the Aziraphale in my head looked nothing like the  Aziraphale in Terry’s head.) I’ve loved every instance of Good Omens Cosplay I’ve seen, and in no case did I ever think anyone was doing it wrong: they were all Aziraphales and Crowleys, and it was always a delight.

Good Omens has been unillustrated for 27 years, which means that each of you gets to make up your own look for the characters, your own backstories, your own ideas about how they will behave.

The TV version is being made with love and with faithfulness to the story. It’s got material and characters in it that Terry and I had discussed over the years, (some of it from what we would have done it there had been a sequel). Writing it has taken up the greater part of my last three years. You might like it – I really hope you will – but you don’t have to. You can start watching it, decide that you prefer the thing in your head, and stop watching it. (I never saw the last Lord of the Rings movie, because I liked the thing in my head too much.)

And I thought…………….. What if the crew of the Normandy goes to Earth before they found anything on Mars or activated the relay, and Shepard has to hide Garrus? He can’t just cover his ears, it’s a bit more complicated than that! :D Same for Liara (though she could wear a wig and perhaps put make-up on?).

• There’s an extinct animal on earth that can cure Kepral’s Syndrome and the team is determined to save Thane once his condition worsens

• Exploring the Dark Energy from Haestrom and that leads them through a time portal thing because science! And they decide to take the time to leave a weapon hidden on earth that could help with the reapers. (bonus going to Mars to properly look at the crucible stuff to see if anything was missed)

• There’s a Collector that broke free of a Reaper’s control and travels back in time to earth and the team has to follow him to protect time and also get him on their side (could also be Javik who didn’t get to escape for extra angst?)

• The Illusive Man’s plan includes going back in time to influence humanity on his side and prepare them for the war and clearly they have to stop him.

• They find they can travel back in time and decide to save the squadmate who died on Virmire but over shoot

• Tali got drunk and tinkered with the engines. EDI thought it’d be a joke (okay this one’s just a dumb fun one)

• Saren plans on eliminating humanity by travelling back to a time they can’t fight back, this way no one can stop his plan with the Reapers

• The war is going poorly and a last attempt decision is made to go back in time and either warn people or try to go back in time to when the Leviathans made the Reapers but it goes screwy and the they end up on Earth first.

• I mean this is the Normandy crew. First there were clones, it’s only natural time travel get involved at some point. Everyone looks at Shepard when it happens who has buried their face in their hands and wondered why it’s always them.

And on to time travel shenanigans:

• Most of the aliens won’t be able to join the team. EDI’ll be fine with her reconnaissance mode, Tali they might be able to bullshit away as having a deadly disease and that’s why she has the mask, plus she sounds Russian so they’re good there.

• Jack jokes about robbing a bank before Mordin point outs that humans have paper money in this time and not credits.

• I mean maybe the aliens could come out if they have some kinda hologram type technology. Joker is all too gleeful about what they look like when they’re human until they point out he can’t go cause he’d possibly break his bones and someone needs to stay with the ship.

• Some kid gives Garrus human chocolate. It does not end well. He’s out for the count but the ambulance arrives and takes him away before the team can stop it and his hologram glitches, now the governments involved and they’ve gotta save him.

• Kaidan/Ashley meeting their great grandparents or something

• People mistaking Miranda for a model and taking pictures with her despite that she’s trying to be in stealth mode (that just convinces everyone more she’s a celebrity trying to hide)

• Tali and Legion and Sam end up in an arcade and wipe out everyone’s top scores, they draw a lot of attention that way and to this day the mystery of who SAM1 and TALI and LEGN (Tali spelt it when Legion didn’t understand why his name could only be four letters, she thought it was funny) are on those arcade machines remains

• Thane, if alive and it’s not reason why they go back, ends up at a church and helping some kids having a theological issue. Shepard’s pretty sure he just started his own religion.

• Liara is completely fascinated by everything and keeps getting distracted and someone from the group has to circle around to get her. At one point she argues with a university professor and becomes a meme.

• Wrex going all out at a bar and practically bankrupting it by being able to drink everything available. Also gets into a barfight and Grunt gets involved too and then they both go to sleep in the bar and the team has to sneak out two massive Krogran in the dead of night from this place.

• Jacob going undercover as a government agent with Samara and the two of them getting Garrus out of where ever he’s being held.

• Kasumi keeps disappearing. At one point they’re worried they’re going to have to leave without her until she shows up with the Queen’s Crown. Shepard makes her put it back.

• Steve and James almost get into a car chase when they rent a car, Steve goes a little to fast and is all too delighted by no inertial dampeners.

but of course there’s the driving…
