Fear not this Weird Succulent Blight!
If you see a plant that looks like the above, it’s probably fine. If your succulents are anything like mine, they’ll probably get worse and look like the pic (below), which was another succulent I had that started getting this odd mystery blight on it’s newer leaves about a month before the echeveria pictured above.
It’s pretty gross looking, but I’ve had this pop up on a lot of my plants and it never seems to hurt them (I don’t qualify the plant as being hurt unless it’s dead, dying or in danger of dying; ugly is fine). Eventually, the weird leaves will grow out. Here’s a pic of my Echeveria Contempo that’s starting to grow out of the blight after about a month of looking ratty. By the end of the summer it’ll probably look like new.
While I personally don’t worry about this blight anymore, if I do see discoloration of succulent leaves I'll usually check them for signs of rot, every once and a while, just to be safe.
Signs of rot: Mushy stem; Weirdly dark spots in stem; Rotting or dying roots; Clear mushy leaves; The plant suddenly dropping all it’s leaves for no reason and then stem shriveling up and dying (all leaves =/= the lower leaves drying up and falling up, which is normal for a lot of succulents); severe discoloration or melting of new leaves; etc
The moral of this story - I have no idea what the heck this succulent mutilating blight is, but it doesn’t seem to do any permanent damage to my plants and it doesn’t seem to be contagious (I’ve had plants packed super tightly together and it never seems to spread pas a single plant). If anyone knows what this is or possibly how to treat it, hit me up.
This weirdo was beheaded in October of 2016 and only started getting roots in march or April of 2017. I thought it was just waiting to die, but it’s starting to regain its former glory!
This is the same plant in November 2017. It’s about 6” across, overflowing it’s container and looking mighty fine.

I’m so into the macro algae (back of picture). There’s also a rock anemone on the left, some zoa frags I’m not expecting to survive, but holding out hope for, clove polyps, etc. my tank looks pretty messy atm.
Terrarium for Sundews or Tropicals???
Or some unholy combination of both?
I have a 10 gal aquarium that will absolutely not hold water, but would be a great terrarium... I’m trying to decide if I should fill it with sundews or tropicals, So drop a comment if you think one would look cooler in an office!
Whatever I do with this, I’ll make a video about how I clean up the tank and plant it and such :)
3rd Order from Ruby Plants, first time not ordering non-succulents. All of the orders were very healthy. Creep around to see what I got/a cat wandering around.
I recently got some plants from Ruby Plants and figured I’d share the unboxing video here.
All the plants looked really healthy and it was a satisfying unbox even though a cat tried to nom my plants.
If anyone is ordering from Ruby and wants a free 3D printed pot, just use this link: https://rubyplants.com/share/PU41E90RI7
As it turns out, I had a lot of random succulent artwork hanging out in my sketchbook. It’s now available for sale on my RedBubble since I finally figured out how to work the scanner.
By Alex Jones Nakia Maples, better known as Philly Plant Guy, has around 200 plants in his South Philly rowhouse. They're mostly tropicals like palms, philodendrons and long, trailing pothos in hanging baskets. In his “plant room”—where the only unoccupied space is a small sofa—a fountain gurgles
An article written about Philadelphians, like myself, who are super into house plants. I know a lot of the people mentioned in the article and they’re all great. I’m also mentioned XD

Gonna see what I can find at the flower show.
Just me talking about a few ways to recognize a few signs that might mean your succulent needs more light including: - stretching - your plant keeps getting ...
Just finished editing this weird little abomination. Hope y’all find it useful!
This is finally done. Only took me 5.5 hrs…
3rd of a series I started over a year ago... anyone have requests or plant pictures they think would be cool painted?
Showing off my diy humidifier-fogger I made for my dart frog tank as well as tips for how to make your own. One day I'll make a nicer version of this video, ...
Made this at the request of a friend and figured it might be useful to some people with humidity loving plants in boxes XD
Bioluminescent algae that’s been happily growing on my desk for the last month or two. It looked 57.12x cooler in person.

At what point do I need an intervention???
*EDIT: This post was in my queue for a while and 4 days after I shot this, I was collapsing boxes from plant shipments - there was a pile of them - and I found 3 bromeliads that I’d accidentally left in the box... They’re in the frog tank temporarily...
These bromeliads remind me of fall and for that I love them.
