I'm about a week or so in with using Deezer and I'm pretty happy with it. The desktop and mobile apps could use some development but I also have to acknowledge that I've been using other platforms for a long time so I shouldn't be expecting this one to conform to what I'm used to.
I don't think i can hold shift on desktop to select multiple items (have to use the checkboxes to select them one by one). I think the only way to add an album to a playlist (I do that a lot) is to select all the tracks (there's a "select all" checkbox) and add them as a group. I can't figure out how to get the mobile app to play recommended tracks after my album/queue ends without starting a track mix. There are no folders for playlist organization. My recommends are meh (I think this is going to improve as I use the platform more).
I consider most of those to be relatively minor and I'm also still figuring it out so I could be missing things.
I haven't had any notable items I wanted to listen to that aren't available in the library yet. I already know the latest Whores album isn't on there but their older stuff is so that hasn't been a problem (yet).
And best of all, Spotify doesn't get my money any more.

The Heads Are Zeros // The Heads Are Zeros
After my current billing period ends, I will cease renewal of my Spotify Premium account. I know this is a small drop in the bucket and I assure you, it is done out of personal morality more than performative action. The only reason I'm saying anything somewhat publicly is in the hopes that others who have been thinking about making a similar change will do the same. Though this is not their first foray into controversies that many large companies controlling a majority of the industry in which they operate dabble in, deciding to run ICE recruitment ads here in the United States feels at best tone deaf and at worst, actively "un-American" (if that still means anything these days).
That means I won't be posting my own Spotify links past the expiration later this month. I have already tried posting bandcamp links when possible to try to encourage people to purchase music from artists they enjoy because they're being paid in crumbs by the streaming services.
I'm going to be trying out Deezer. I've heard good things and while the desktop app doesn't seem quite as polished, I think I can put up with a few minor usability changes over supporting a company with a moral compass that's so out of whack. Nothing is going to be perfect but if I can do better, I'm going to try.
