"There is talk we may be returning to Kings Landing sooner than intended" Alys spoke from her place curled up among the cushions on the floor, reading over a letter from home. She wasn't much surprised, but she did wonder how Maegor would handle returning still married to her and now with a third wife. She tilted her head back so she might look at the other woman "do you think the capital will agree with us more or less now that we are returning as three instead of two?" It felt as if in being banished they had gained a bit of a gift in Tyanna, but she doubted Ceryse or the faith would see it that way.

“From what I’ve learned of your people, I expect they’ll fire arrows on our ship the moment we reach harbor,” she said flippantly. News of the war in Westeros was constant, it seemed the westerners were all too eager to let their ideologies drive them to violence. The Free Cities were far more tolerant of all sorts of differences, and Tyanna couldn’t quite understand how things had gotten so out of hand across the sea. 

There was only so much that Isabelle could cover for. Why she was made to keep watch tonight made no sense, because between being one of the best fighters, she was also great bait when push came to shove. Sure she had been through more than one woman could handle, but that was why she was a Shadowhunter, she could handle the hurt. Maybe that was why Alec stationed her at the door instead… She could handle the pain without him, even if Si didn’t know who she was anymore. Didn’t remember their history, or his history with Clary. So she was stationed at the door, watching the cameras that surround the Institute, waiting on everyone to come back home. Niya was behind her, getting ready for the workup that she was going to go through at the Academy and it was helping Izzy pass the time. “If that knee buckles you are going to go down faster than you can stand up. Lock your legs better if you are going to pass the Academy classes.”

She took a swing at the training dummy and winced. Sloppy. Getting out of New Orleans was supposed to help her stress levels, get her focused and ready for the Academy. It was hard to be there right now, with the Cold Peace sowing so much suspicion and fear, and what was left of the Institute after the Endarkened a huge reminder of everything they’d fought for. At least everything everyone else had fought for. And that was the heart of it. Niya could barely look at her family without remembering how they’d kept her in the dark, held her back, hadn’t let her help. Her whole world had been destroyed, and they had the audacity to be disappointed in her for trying to Ascend. The next time someone threatened her home, she’d be ready.
