Colors are the sensation produced by the lights in your eyes, the way we see a colour can be so complicated, because they interact with each other and produce different effects and contrasts. Some colors might appear lighter or darker than they actually are because of the color palette they are interacting with, other colors can appear other ones because of the color palette contrast. Colors are so complex and an important characteristic used to define everything in our world, our senses.

All this variation of colors permits us to recognize so easily what we are seeing, but when it’s just grayscale everything becomes way more limited, it’s just shades of grays to represent all the diversity of colors we can see. Tartah sees a world where a bunch of different colors to us can have the same shade of gray to him.

Shirahama showed us the difficulties to differentiate medications or ink without depending on colors, it’s a really simple example to show the obstacles of silverwash to the reader. Sometimes I feel like for some people it’s “just that” and they can’t expand in their minds that it isn't only medications and ink, everything for Tartah is silver, everything can be confused in some way because of how limited his vision is in comparison to a colorful one.

When an artist produces an illustration, thinking about the monochromatic grayscale is an important part of the process for the definition of shades and contrast, the environment we paint is easy to understand even without colors, but the real world isn’t painted by an artist thinking about contrast and shades, the real world is unexpected.

Places, objects, anything that is really easy for us to see and “understand” can be very different or difficult from Tartah’s perception, because the color palette our eyes are seeing and acknowledging can appear darker, lighter or without a balanced contrast in grayscale.

There is this band au where Tartah was trying to get into an art school and I couldn’t stop thinking about his relationship with art. Tartah feels like he will never be a complete artist because he can’t see colours, no no no you already are an artist my boy, and you can be an amazing painter!

Talking about my experience as an art student, people in general think that art is only drawing and painting, they get into an art school without knowing other types of art and how fun they are! Tartah carves little sculptures and feels that they “aren’t complete ou real art” because they aren’t painted, and noooo no no nooo!

I just imagine how the classes could be adapted to Tartah, he still has a lot to learn that could improve his art, there are so many beautiful ways to use grayscale or b&w, and such nice techniques he could love like wood or metal engraving!
