A little sneak peak for one of the stories i'm working on. Growing up in a scary world is the title for now.

A prequel to when the world you live in is the thing you fear most.

A purple hedgehog awoke early. She was exhausted, yet content. Her belly no longer big. Little kicks used to keep her awake at night.

She had gotten used to those little kicks for a long time. He was a lively one.

Active.

Already practicing for when he should start running around. A little runner.

That's what she joked about to her husband.

Her little baby recognized her voice. When she talked he kicked.

His way of letting her know he heard her.

When she hummed he calmed. Kicks growing less frequint and perhaps even lulling him to sleep. She supposed he liked to hear her voice.

A way for a mother to bond with her baby long before they where born.

All babies liked and knew their mother's voice. That's what she had been told. The kind nurse who helped her and checked in on his growth told her as much.

Cordelia was very gentle with her son and he was so tiny in his mother's arms. Just a tiny blue hoglet sleeping soundly. She could hardly believe he was here sometimes.

Chapter 42 sneak peak

No. he was scaring him. The blue hedgehog was freaking out. Chaos he knew he would. What else could he do? He needed to ask. Those quills couldn't stay like that. They needed tending too. He bit his lip. Dusk didn't follow after him right away. He wasn't sure what to do. The blue hedgehog had freaked out so badly and probably headed to his cave.

Should he go after him? He wanted to make sure the hedgehog was alright. Reassure him that he just wanted to help and not hurt him. Would the hedgehog listen though? Dusk wasn't sure. Chaos what if he made things worse. Maybe he should just leave him be for now. Try again tomorrow.

No....No. Following him was for the best. It could make things worse though. Perhaps he just needed to keep his distance and only confirm wether the hedgehog went to his cave. Then he could go from there.

Dusk did not have to look for long. He heard a voice. Someone was saying something. Sounded like that person was talking to someone.

Chapter 21 Sneak peak

“I think he has a fever.” That's what Tom said all of a sudden.

Maddie all but gasped.

“W...What? Are you sure?”

Her eyes glanced into the backview mirror. Sonic clung to Tom's left arm. Emerald eyes looked hazy and almost seemed to stare right through Tom.

“I think so. His head feels warm.”

Maddie tried to stay calm. A fever. She shouldn't be too surprised. There was a chance he'd develop a fever if nothing was done. It wasn't good. Certainly not.

“Alright stay calm. You're on your way to get him treatment. The fever might not be too bad yet either.” He didn't seem to have one earlier. Which meant he was only starting to get feverish now. She wanted confirmation on wether he truly had a fever.

“Tom grab my bag and check his temperature. I want to know for sure if he has a fever or not.”

Tom did as she asked. “Hey there kiddo. I need to check your temperature okay. Nothing scary alright?'

“O....Okay... I'm brave...” the hedgehog said as he hugged his owl plushie.

“You sure are bud. Almost done.”

Sonic whimpered a little. Cobalt blue quills flared up just a little.

“There that wasn't so bad. You did great kiddo.”

Chapter 41 sneak peak

Dusk had no idea what was going on in the blue hedgehogs mind. Who had been frazzled ever since he asked if those pirates had hurt him. Who had indeed hurt him. Not a surprise. He already knew.

That led to the hedgehog showing more drawings. Of more pirates. One really vicious one, a jackal with two different coloured eyes held the blue hedgehog by his scruff. He looked so small. This must have happened when he was little, just a kid. Dusk felt bad. What happened was horrible.

The black and red hedgehog went for a walk to clear his head. He would need to have that conversation he dreaded soon. The blue hedgehogs quills. They needed to be looked at. He had to remove the bad ones. That talk was one he didn't want to have.

Chaos he needed to be carefull. He knew the blue hedgehog was going to freak out. How could he bring it up without scaring him. Or making things worse. What would Celeste do? What would she do? She'd know how to reassure him.

What if he scared the blue hedgehog again? No. He just... couldn't do that.

It seemed the blue hedgehog had been following him around. Hiding behind bushes or trees. Just staying out of sight. Dusk was very aware of his presence.

Sneak peak For a story i'm working on. The title for now is young Shiver.(Young Sonic) It could always change. I'm not sure wether i'll end up using this scene, but it gives you an idea what this version of Sonic is like. It takes place before when the world you live in is thing you fear most

“Sounds like my big boy is awake.” A sweet familiar voice said. His ears perked up. He knew this voice. Hearing it made him chirp more. The blue hoglet reached his arms up when green eyes as bright as his own came into view. His tail wagged happily. A purple hedgehog who smelled of flowers , daisies. Honey. A smell that was as sweet as the sound of her voice. Even more gentle than that. Familiar, nice, soft.

His tiny hands reached up. Asking to be picked up, to be held in that familiar embrace. She gently smiled and picked him up carefully. Pulled him into a hug. Flowers and honey. A familiar scent she carried. Little purrs kept coming as the purple hedgehog held him close. Sweet and kind. She was wearing a cream dress with blue and golden embroidery.

The hoglet's attention went to his purple hedgehog plushie. Still laying in his bed. He whimpered when he couldn't reach it. “We can't forget your little friend now, can we sweety?”

She booped him on the nose and handed the hedgehog plushie to the hoglet. He giggled and hugged his plushie tightly. A tight grip. He wasn't planning to let him go. It was noon. Not that the blue hoglet knew that. Nor that he had just woken up from his nap. Or realized what time it was. For him, it was just light. Time to be awake. Time to play.

Chapter 20 sneak peak

Sonic sat on the couch, he crawled all the way onto Tom's lap. Waiting for Maddie to come over. The blue hedgehog fidgeted nervously. Carl watched both of them. They had called Maddie some time ago. She was on her way, but it would still be a while before she arrived. The roads were bad with this weather. Wade had also called Tom this morning. He was just checking up on his best friend and his kid.

Sonic briefly said hi to Wade nothing more than that. Still Wade was really happy to hear his voice. He'd been worried like everyone. Carl shuffled away all the snow in front of the house and after that he made some hot cocoa for Tom and gave Sonic a glass of milk.

Sonic was a little unsure, he didn't have much of an appetite for anything. He didn't even eat anything that morning. The hedgehog hadn't eaten properly for a while.

“I'm sorry kiddo. I sure wish i could make everything better. Don't ya worry though. Maddie is going to be here any moment.”

Carl felt for the kid and did what he could to make him comfortable. There wasn't much he could do. Only wait. The man paced for a bit. Went to another room and returned. “Hey kiddo. I got something for ya.”

They wouldn't be staying that much longer now that her little brother had everything he needed. Granpapa was gathering plenty of supplies for the next trip. He had been studying his maps. Planning out routes.Celeste was a bit sad that they were leaving soon. Cordelia and Dorian were very nice. If they left now, then it would likely be some time before they headed over here again. If it wasn't for stumbling on her little brother, then they'd never even have met these kind hedgehogs. She hoped to return here at some point. The baby would be born by that point and she'd loved to meet him. Cordelia's belly was already very big and it wouldn't be too long before that little one would be born.

Chapter 19 sneak peak

Sonic slept soundly. Until something started aching. A burning sensation. He furrowed his brows. It felt like someone had put him on fire. Aching. Burning. Throbbing. Ears flattened. The hedgehog whimpered. He slumbered on despite the pain pulling at his mind. His quills flexed and relaxed. Why did it burn? A scary feeling... He started tossing and turning. Uncomfortable. Ughh. Aching throbbing. Droplets of sweat trickled down, dampening his furr. Breaths came in faster. The blue hedgehog slept still. His unconcious mind fully immersed in sleep. A dream.

Sonic was in Longclaws house. Longclaw had just taken some freshly baked cookies out of the oven. A sweet earthy smell. Cookies made with berries and honey. Tasted sweet and flowery. They were still a bit warm.

That's when they tasted the best. At least in his opinion. He eagerly took a bite after Longclaw handed him a cookie. His little tail wagged.

“I wanna play now Longclaw. Hide and seek. Can we play hide and seek?”

The blue hoglet was jumping up and down and tugging at her wing all excitedly.

“Can we play?! Can we?! I wanna play!”

She smiled at him. Even her teal eyes seemed to be smiling too.

“Sure let's play a bit of hide and seek.”

“Yay!! Let's play. Let's play! I'm gonna hide so good.” Sonic hopped up and down full of energy.

Longclaw started counting and of he was.

“Gonna hide so good. Longclaw won't find me. I'm the best hider ever.” the blue hoglet said to himself.

His little feet pattered over the wooden floors. Emerald eyes looked around and then he crawled behind some curtains.

“Hmmm i wonder where he's hiding. Is he here. No. Or maybe here?”

Sonic giggled as he heard Longclaw speak. Her footsteps came ever closer.

“Under the table. No. Where could he have gone? Ah there you are.”

The blue hoglet let out a giggle as Longclaw pulled aside the curtains from the cabinet he was hiding in. She picked him up and spun him around. That made him giggle even more.
