Hey Omni! Any Smashified Lives planned? Just with all the Nintendo Directs and Events and such, I've got Livestream Fever.
we’re working on it!
Hey, I love your smashified videos and think you're an amazing artist! I just have one question, and (while controversial) would you not turn down Ridley if he got enough votes? I know he's in SSB43DS/WiiU but they just ported his Other M design, and I'd like to see how he looks "smashified" either in his Super Metroid incarnation, Meta, or Omega forms. I know you can't confirm anything but I was just wondering if you were at least open to the idea of smashifying him. Thanks for your time.
sorry for the late response!Pretty much any character that originates in a video game is fair game. =)
Here you are!

Hey Omni, who did you vote for in the smash ballot?
Rayman!
Would you guys be able to do a Smashified map idea? I've had one on my mind for the longest time but unfortunately I am not artistically capable of bringing it to life :/
Not really sure what you mean by map. ^^;
THOUGHTS ON... Pacing Your Work
So I’ve been thinking about pacing a lot lately and wanted to share my approach to this and how personal work factors in.
But first I’ll define the three stages of any creative output as I see it: consumption, production, and presentation.
STAGE 1: Consumption
Before starting a project I usually do tons of research. Some of it will be relevant to the project and some of it won’t but that’s the name of the game. What I’ve learned is that without the proper research, I won’t have enough mental energy to get through the next stage…
STAGE 2: Creation
This is the least social of the stages but it’s where the magic happens. As a quick aside, I think these all apply to any creative output (singing, dancing, acting, etc.) and that you only get out as much as you put it. Once you’re all done with this, you get to move on to…
STAGE 3: Presentation
For some, this is what it’s all about. For others it’s the scariest part but it HAS TO HAPPEN. Without presenting the fruits of your labour, what was the point of all that hard work consuming and producing?
THE STAGES APPLIED TO PACING YOUR WORK I generally look at each project and figure out what stage I’m at. Sometimes stuff will flip back and forth but what’s most important is determining if one column is too heavily weighted
I’ll occasionally find myself at a point where most or all of my projects are at the same stage and this is what I try to avoid. Everyone will be different, but I find each stage poses unique problems when not in balance:
Too much consumption: You have all of these great ideas but no outlet for the inspiration.
Too much production: You’re making all of this awesome work but if no one is seeing it then you lose out on vital feedback or the joy of interacting with your audience/peers.
Too much presentation: The attention is good but (as harsh as this sounds) it’s all temporary. If you’re not working on something new then it’ll be a huge gap before you get to share your work again.
Be aware of the cycling stages of your process so that you avoid getting stuck in an imbalanced situation.
THIS IS WHERE PERSONAL WORK COMES IN!
The very nature of personal work means you can schedule it to suit whatever you’re lacking! If you need to share something then do a quick project during a break and then you can share it that same day!
Or sometimes I find researching a new personal project will lead to unexpected solutions to client work and provide the inspiration needed to continue!
The benefits of recognizing these patterns are endless!
Conclusion Basically what I’m trying to say is that balance is crucial and you have the ability to find it in your work. Take a step back, assess where you’re at with projects, determine what you need, and then enact a change to make it happen!
But that’s just my take. As always I far prefer a discussion and want to hear your thoughts. Whaddya think?
Very insightful! =)
Splatoon 64: Inklings vs Octolings Inklings [here] Octolings [here]
Splatoon 64 revolves around the first generation of turf wars between the Inklings and Octolings. The 4 player multiplayer battles pit 2 squids against 2 Octolings. Players could unlock additional weapons and gear to alter a variety of stats.
In all seriousness, the Squid friendly Nintendo 64 controller would be perfect for such a game!

Software used ~Maya, Photoshop, After Effects~
This is pretty neato! I just wish there wasn’t any Comic Sans. XP
Hi Omni! I just watch the video of "Inkling Smashified - Time Lapse Painting" and i just came here to say that you awesome man, it was amazing to see the entire process and the incredibly final draw! Also, I want to ask you something about the workflow: With Chris and Sean, are just using Photoshop? Or Ilustrator also? I'm very impress with the workflow between all the team! Greetings from Chile! :)
Chris and I both use Photoshop CC 2014, while Sean uses Paint Tool Sai. Fortunately, Sai can read and write the essential parts of a PSD, so it’s not too difficult to collaborate despite the differences.Occasionally, Chris will bring in a 3D asset that he rendered in ZBrush or something like that, but it’s mostly Photoshop. =)

Princess Daisy with her strikers charged uniform please... I don't wanna sound rude /-\
I take all suggestions into account, but I don’t make any promises!
You don't have to but can you do a Freddy Fazbear smashified?
I take all suggestions into account, but I don’t make any promises! =P
you and your smashified friends are so cool oh gosh, do you ever collaborations with artists on other things as well?
I’ve done very few collaborations in the past, so the Smashified series is really the first big collaborative art-related undertaking I’ve done. Though I have worked with teams on various projects before.
Hey Omni, sorry if you've been asked this already and/or already answered this (if you did, I must have missed it), but will you be posting the art from Smashified Live onto the website?
Yup, it’ll be there, along with an archive of the stream, most likely sped up. =)
Omni, are you Filipino?
I am! =D

How do you come up with ideas for drawings? Be it scenes, poses, etc. I always have a hard time thinking about these things when wanting to start a new drawing.
Sometimes I get a very vivid idea in my head, sometimes it just takes doing a crap ton of rough sketches before I stumble upon something I like. Sketching is very important!
Hey man. You do really impressive work for coloring. Those Inkling renders you collaborated on came out great! You're especially good using that pen tool. And the trick you used to create the base and cap for the ink tanks blew me away. I've been trying to shift my drawings to digital and work on adding a splash of color to my work. I need some tips like how you lay down the base color work and embed patterns. The pen tool looks to be key. Do you use mainly Photoshop? Illustrator? Suggestions?
For Smashified, everything is done in Photoshop. What I do is just lay out the basic flat shapes using shape layers with the pen tool, and once all those are set up and in proper stacking order, I go through and convert each shape layer to a raster layer masked with a vector mask. That way, I can then paint on the layer while still having the vector mask to control the perimeter. =)
