Art Prompt Calendar

Daily prompts posted monthly. See linked Google Calendar if that's more your thing. We enjoy one-word prompts for their combination of specificity broad interpretability. We especially enjoy words that can be multiple parts of speech. If you're stuck on a prompt, we encourage you to look the word up in the dictionary (even if you already know the word), to get your brain thinking about alternate meanings or ways of engaging with the word. Take the prompt "love": you could create a piece that depicts love happening – already a world of possibilities – a parent and child playing, a hug, clasped hands, a dog's face, and so on. Or you could feature anything that you love, making the options infinite – do you love pie? Sport? Which one? Elves? Programming? Indoor plumbing? You could just create your piece in a way that you love – collage, cubism, cinquain, cake-baking – even things that don't start with the letter c! Or you could just draw some hearts. Do what you want, but approach the prompts with an open mind; get creative and use them in the way that works for you – otherwise they're no use at all. Also, don't use generative AI; that's not creativity.
