I've managed to read eight books so far, which is kind of insane for my standards, but here we go!
The Secret History - Donna Tartt:
What kind of book was this even??? To be completely honest, I was kind of mad that I liked this book because It's son long (and it took me all of book one to get into it), but after a while there was something new and interesting of every page. The ending was something... but the final pages were kind of meh.
"The whoosh of flames was like a flock of birds, trapped and beating in a whirlwind near the ceiling."
Sibyllan - Pär Lagerkvist:
This book was certainly not what I thought it would be, but it was actually good. Wonderfully written and every sentence ringed so clearly.
Normal People - Sally Rooney:
Damn this book was fantastic! It was a really fast read, in a good way, and the characters were very sympathetic. I read it in Swedish and the translation was a little iffy in some parts. Despite this I always enjoy mentions of Sweden in non-Swedish media and Connell studies the same thing I want to study, so that's fun. Many people I've spoken to say they have never been in the right mindset to read this, but I don't believe anyone will ever truly be in that mindset so just read it!
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - Douglas Adams:
Adam's work is always a nice change of pace if you just want something mind bogglingly fun and to have the whole theory of SchrĂśdinger's cat explained to you for no valid reason.
En man som heter Ove -Â Fredrik Backman:
A very beautiful story about a very stubborn man. About handling grief and everything that comes with it in a very comforting way. Backman's characters almost feel real and act in a believable way. I was quite surprised that I liked it as much I did (I say to every other book I ever read), but Backman is a very diligent writer and makes you fit yourself into every situation.
âPeople said Ove saw the world in black and white. But she was color. All the color he had.â
All Systems Red - Martha Wells:
It's nice to get some good sci-fi that isn't just everything going to shit all the time. Love how anti-social Murderbot is. (He's just like me).
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee:
I don't really have any notes on this one, but if you haven't read it please do. It's so worth it.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen:
Oh Fitzwilliam, Fitzwilliam, wherefore art thou Fitzwilliam? (I can NOT take his name seriously)
It might be in favour of the lack of intimacy in regency era media that I like it so much. A whole love story where do not so much as kiss. Sign me up!
Did I read this because The Other Bennet Sister just came out? Yes, yes I did and I have no regrets. In addition, at the end of my edition of this there was a quote that is probably the best quote I have ever read:
"I do not write for such dull Elves" - Jane Austen
That is all have a wonderful rest of your day!
