Art and Cornfields

Experimenting with some quick and dirty paper marbling methods for work. Normally you would blend methylcellulose and water into this really gloopy mix, drop inks into that, and then rinse the excess gloop and ink off of prepared paper, but I wanted to cut down on the number of steps. 

The oil and food coloring method was definitely too oily, but on my second attempt, I tried thinning out oil paints with gamsol, and that worked pretty well.

I made some very embarrassing noises in my cubicle when I found out that Wild Goose Creative was doing a “Art of the Leviathan,” a Moby-Dick inspired exhibit and a month’s worth of events, but I didn’t do much research about the events besides getting them on my calendar, so the Why Read Moby-Dick panel at Wild Goose Creative tonight was a great surprise. The discussion focused on Moby-Dick’s relevance today from four very different perspectives, which was fun to listen to while surrounded by art based on Moby-Dick. I have to admit, listening to Dr. Renker and Matt Kish talk about their own experiences with the book was a real highlight.

An acquaintance asked if I would make boutonniere's for the MC's of a condom based fashion show. I said yes, because my last words will probably be, "Sure, how hard can it be?"

This is basically what happened:

wow, that's a lot of condoms now what?

Sewing = yes, hot glue gun = not so much. This could take awhile.

The leaves are tissue paper over cardstock. I added pearls to some of the flowers, because pearls are classy (nods innocently).
