Hindsight wasn’t something Damian enjoyed relying on. It meant something had operated sub-optimally.

Unfortunately, hindsight was currently taunting him, and the more he thought about his predicament, the angrier he got. Ticking off the theory of being contaminated by an unknown agent in Gotham would have been simple, after Nightwing and Red Robin had left the cave. The certitude no one else would be in the cave but him for a handful of minutes, some droplets of blood, and he would have been set.

Instead, Damian had gone and wept in Alfred the Cat’s fur like a child after learning information he should have already gathered from context clues.

And what did that award him? A lost chance.

Balanced Scales - Chapter 5

Excerpt:

Robin opened the various bookmarks and trackers he had on social media while the GCPD’s files and reports downloaded to a private folder set up specifically for this case. He would have to thank Matches Malone for implanting a backdoor in the police’s system when he was sneaking through there.

Once everything was at disposition, he started the dreadfully long task of filling up his graph and data sheet.

Crime reports in the Belfry area were on the decrease. It wasn’t down to zero—probably would never be, in Gotham—but it was less than before.

In parallel, more and more civilians gushed online about the ways Phantom saved them. More often than not, they overshared their experience by mentioning they were going home, exiting work, going grocery shopping, and the likes.

And then, a gust of wind. Something sharp and powerful, enough to send the drawings in Damian's hands- shaky and frantic and jittery- flying off the roof, splaying over the city like confetti.

I've started this drawing back in June (2025) and took many breaks because perspective is so far out of my comfort zone it might as well be in outer space. BUT THIS SCENE!!! THIS SCENE!!! It's just so good, I kept thinking about it and I HAD to do something for it

Excerpt:

It had barely taken any time for Robin to return to patrol Gotham.

He refused to display the shame that burned at his cheeks when he did. He was embarrassed at the tantrum he had thrown, but most importantly, Damian could not believe he had let his anger get the better of him. He had abandoned people that could have—probably had—gotten hurt.

Damian vowed Robin wouldn’t be distracted by his emotions anymore. Even more so that Batman had resumed patrol with him, now that catching the last few actors from their big case was over.

Excerpt:

“Fifth alley down this street,” Oracle’s smooth voice directed him from the comms.

“On it,” Damian veered to the left, quick to answer her call and even quicker to spot the mentioned alley. He sped up his pace— Oracle’s tone had been short. Crime never slept in Gotham, especially not the common crimes. Robin gladly helped whomever was having bad luck that day. Even if he wasn’t working the big case with everyone else, it didn’t mean his assigned routine patrols were any less important.

At least, that’s what he’d been telling himself ever since he was cleared from his injury two weeks ago.

Watching his family work together to gather clues while being pushed aside for something as frustrating as rest had been othering. When he was cleared, it had been too late for him to help with the investigation. It was nearly over and his help on the case was not only unnecessary, it would even unbalance their plans. So he wasn’t allowed on it, and was assigned routine patrols instead.
