Stratt vat security camera shenanigans aka Eva's observations of her crew:
- many Martin and Annie moments, they are aware of the security cameras but they do not care
- it's not even that Eva has cameras in every corner of the Vat, she only has them in major traffic areas and places with sensitive equipment, it's just that those two are so open about there relationship they don't bother to hide
- though they aren't always being freaks (affectionately), sometimes when the weight of their jobs and the reality that they won't always be together are too heavy, they slow dance in empty meeting rooms
- when Eva notices this, if any meeting is scheduled in the room they're in, she diverts it to another place to give them more time together
- in a similar vein, Olesya used to do ballet up until she started university, when she's alone in a room she does turns when she thinks no one is looking
- this is also how Eva learns about the betting pools, though the crew are aware of the cameras existences, they aren't always aware of where they are, at least not initially, and it's also how she learns of Yáo being a prolific bettor (he may be upright but he always bets safely unlike Olesya who always goes to extremes)
- Lamai sings to herself when she's alone, or to her monkeys when she's monitoring them (since the cameras don't transmit audio, Eva only finds out when she went looking for her, she stayed outside her lab until she finished, and she finds out she's one of the better singers onboard)
- many awkward sleeping positions are caught and seen on the cameras, when Eva notices one of her crew sleeping outside of their rooms, she adjusts their schedules to allow them to sleep in (mildly) longer the next day
- smoking is not allowed on the vat since there's far too many dangerous material around, but after joining the crew, François still had a pack of cigarettes on him, Eva saw him on the deck and joined him to finish the pack (Ryland scolds her for it, but he also understands the necessity of a coping mechanism)
- of course, abruptly stopping led to withdrawal symptoms, and both Eva and François had Lamai working overtime between dealing with them and conducting her own research
- beer pong in little russia done with lab apparatus was a regular occurence, only when Eva brought it up in a meeting (after many games, she only brought it up because they broke some gear that needed replacing) did Dimitri learn of the cameras
- the crew are all very aware of the cameras, and though she cannot hear them, a lot of the times they argue in front of them as if they're arguing with her
- for example, once she announced an hour longer work day after a bad storm delayed progress, and near instantly Steve, Lokken, and Dimitri found one of the lab's cameras and started pointedly and animatedly speaking at it
- obviously she did not hear them, but she did see how annoyed they were
- they were actually recording a voice note, minutes later a twenty minute long recording came through (she didn't bother to listen to it, though she did respond that the trio (plus Ryland since he just happened to be there) had to work an extra half hour to make up on lost time)
- quickly did they solve this dilemma; since the astronaut crew and Ryland has radios, they've started both standing in front of the cameras and stealing either Ryland or one the astronauts (most Olesya) to argue with Eva
- she has banned them from doing this, except when she was not looking Steve ordered extra radios and handed them out to the lead scientists, which means no matter where one of them are on the ship, since Eva can access the security cameras on her tablet, one of her primary crew can and will speak to her through this means
- and while they could just use their (incredibly bricked) phones to talk to her, this method is way more fun
- Lokken especially uses this when she's arguing with Ryland, and even though Eva does not follow, she sides with Lokken anways, especially when Ryland isn't by her side if only to see him walk in front of a camera to deeply frown (he knows she can see him, it does not change her answer)
