The Association for Recorded Sound Collections regrets to announce it has cancelled without penalty its 54th annual meeting and conference in Montréal, Québec in May 2020.
The Board of Directors has decided not to reschedule the conference in 2020. ARSC will reconvene in Spring 2021 in a location to be determined.
Please stay tuned for an announcement from the association about operations in the coming year.

In honor of David Bowie, I wanted to call everyone's attention to a presentation that Toby Seay did at the 2010 ARSC national conference (audio available at the link above).
When Copyright and Community Work Together: Recovering Lost David Bowie Multi-Track Masters
"In the summer of 2009, two multi-track masters from the 1974 David Bowie "Young American" sessions showed up on Ebay. This presentation relives the events that un-folded to recover the tapes, preserve them and get them back to the rightful owner. With a vibrant and passionate music community along with what are usually overly stringent copyright laws for archivists, a well-crafted course of action unfolds. The Drexel University Audio Archive, an online music forum and the artist’s management are all participants in a one-week adventure that involved quick communication, deal making and a little misrepresentation. Excerpts from these never released tracks round out the presentation."

Records focus of conference in Rochester
Rochester has a great many record collectors — but it’s a safe bet that few are aware of the professional audio group coming to the city this month.
From May 16 to 19, the Association for Recorded Sound Collections will hold its 46th annual conference at the Radisson Riverside, 120 E. Main St. This group of collectors and archivists explores every aspect of recorded sound history and technology, from record preservation to copyright reform.
The upcoming conference, sponsored by the Eastman School of Music, will feature lectures, workshops and exhibits. Acknowledging Rochester’s rich music history, it will include such topics as “Rochester’s Music from Jenny Lind to George Eastman,” “The Flowering of the Phonograph in the Flower City” and “Howard Hanson on Record.”
The event is open to the public, but all sessions require registration and a fee. For a full schedule and registration form, go to arsc-audio.org/conference/.
