My town still has two in use. One is for an auto shop, the other was redressed as Lincoln. I think, I don't actually know the history. Then there are a couple used as decoration or museum pieces. And we have a restaurant/museum/gift shop that has a Top's Big Boy, along with a lot of other cool shit from Route 66.

My health insurance cost me about $300 a month, my employer, the State of Illinois, pays about $1,500 a month. They have over 250,000 employees. Our governor increased the healthcare budget to nearly $3 billion for FY27. Universal healthcare would cut that bill by at least 50%, so $1.5 billion, annually. This is just one state. And we get some cheap insurance because we have so many employees. The increase in Medicare tax would REPLACE everyones health insurance premiums. There are people paying $2,000 a month for really shitty insurance and they don't realize they would go from $2k a month to $500 a month with $0 out of pocket for any care they need. You kid needs braces? $0. You've had a cough for 6 months and nothing helps? $0 after 6 doctor's appointments and a dozen test to figure it out. Broke a bone at 3 am and go to the ER? $0. Even if you take an ambulance, which should be a service provided by the government just like the fire department. UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE WILL SAVE EVERYONE MONEY.

This should have been a huge news story that really should have opened dozens of investigations.

Yeah, 1 hour of homework from all 7 classes should be easy while doing 3 hours of sports or activities and getting 8 hours of sleep and eating breakfast and dinner. 24 hours is plenty of time to do 7 hours of school, 7 hours of homework, 8+ hours of sleep, travel time, sports/clubs, having a social life, visiting family, and some work 20 hours a week to help support their family. Homework started as a punishment and now it is standard with some teachers not thinking about how many classes the students have to take or any other considerations. Teens are sleeping at family gathers not because they are lazy, they are sleeping because they are exhausted.

Adding and abetting after the fact are also crimes. This entire regime, almost all Repubs and a good number of Dems, along with let's say half of those worth over $250 million should be prosecuted for these crimes.

We didn't have the most powerful military the world has ever seen simply because we had the biggest and most sticks. We knew how and when to use which one. It doesn't matter if you are swinging a Redwood if you are aiming 20 miles away from the guy stabbing you.
