Lowering & Raising Your Pitch
Fun fact of the day:
The pitch of your voice is determined mainly by 2 factors– your vocal cord length and their tension. The tension affects the speed at which your vocal cords vibrate, producing different sounds.
We can't rly change the length on our own, but we can affect the tension.
If you're aiming for a lower pitch, you want to relax the cords, not quite fully loosening it. You want to relax the muscles in your throat, allowing your vocal cord to vibrate more slowly, resulting in a lower pitch.
Obviously the opposite is true if you want to achieve a higher pitch.
Do with this information what you will.
Wait- so what happens when you get sick and your voice gets lower?
Ello!! Thats a good question, I'll try to explain :)
Basically, when you're sick your vocal cords swell with inflammation. So they kinda become thicker in a sense. You know how on a guitar the thicker strings have a lower sound to them? The same concept comes into play here. Thicker strings/cords vibrate at a lower frequency, which gives you the low pitch. It also helps that the mucus adds some friction to the cords giving it a more raspy sound.
If you want to get a lower sound like that in everyday talk you can do vocal training :) There's a lot you can look into but here's some things that helped me:
1. Diaphragm Breathing
You want to focus on breathing from your belly (not the head, throat, or chest). Put your hands on your stomach & breathe in through your nose. As you breath in you want your stomach to move out. When I was in vocal lessons they had me try this laying down with a heavy book on my stomach so I could tell easier.
Most people speak using shallow chest breaths, which tenses the neck and raises vocal pitch
2. The Invisible Yawn
Take a big breath in through your nose then start to yawn with your mouth still closed. You should feel the back of your throat open up. It should feel wide and your tongue should drop.
This creates a larger space in the vocal tract. A larger space acts like a larger speaker cabinet. It amplifies lower, darker frequencies
3. Humming
Put your hand on your chest. Take your diaphragm breath again and then hum. Keep humming and lower the pitch of your hum. Your hand should feel the vibrations.
This is to help your voice have more resonance and get it out of your throat and head
4. Speak Slowly!
A lot of times we speak fast and that raises our pitch subconsciously. Stay slow take breaths and it'll be easier for your cords to relax and you can be more intentional with your pitch.
Hopefully some of these help!! Also disclaimer I am not a vocal trainer, I'm just a transmasc med student who took vocal classes.
Good luck !!
I have no words, this is amazing

A lil comic. Would this have come up on the way to Erid? Probably, but shhh…
grace's outfit from chapter 18 of my fanfic :)
Non-binary Grace YIPEEEEE
mutation.
Dammit I'm crying again
I have this au where Simon took almost 2 decades to tell Grace how he feels. I posted this on insta but never really got to ramble on the full context of the au.
(Please excuse my grammar as English is not my first language
Simon fell in love with Grace during the 2nd year of him in the Hail Mary. He was unsure of his feelings up until they arrived in Erid, where he told Rocky and Adrian his emotions and his struggles to accept himself. Adrian advised to work on himself first before telling Grace his feelings, and so he did- he worked on himself for 16 years. And this comic is essentially how he finally confessed to Grace. No fear and thoughts of regret, just pure honesty. He's okay with Grace not reciprocating his feelings, because he's not afraid anymore.
Simon is a very dear character to me (maybe the reason why i project myself on him) I want him to actually work on himself and not the relationship, even if that means it takes him 16 vears. I like seeing him happy, not because Grace loves him, but because he loves himself
Long post (kinda) but ye i just wanted to yap about this bc its been in my head for weeks now.
Simon being happy cuz he loves himself, I love this so much
I love imagining Ryland and Colt going to live with holland and holly march after Courtland kills their dad.
Just the shenanigans those three would get up to.
The three trying to sneak their way onto Hollands cases and helping him solve the cases .
Holly teaching Colt how to drive
Them sneaky their way into movie sets and pretending to be extras
Ryland doing science experiments with Holly
And then Heally shows up and beats up their uncle/dad and then their lives get really interesting
I need more of this

if you are overhwlemed and want to fix ur life step 1 is a beautiful nap at an odd hour
Sleep ain't for the weak
Such a sad part of this addiction to having AI write your interactions with other humans for you is the quiet and devout acceptance of and helplessness against insecurity.
Idk, maybe it's the neurodivergence talking but I've lived my whole life being misunderstood and called a liar and lazy and intentionally inept when "I don't know" was the genuine answer whenever I failed to do something the way I should have apparently innately known, but the ability to express myself and advocate for myself is an honor. I worked hard on this. I'm proud of this.
"I just can't express myself"
bitch learn.
Some day I'm going to be the gatekeeper to someone's career, and I'll slam the door in their face when their AI crutch is denied to them and all this reliance on a robot to do their self-expression finally catches up with them. And I will laugh, and hire the next person in line who's standing there red-faced, stammering, and sweaty, but practiced for hours in front of a mirror with chicken-scratch notes.
Technical skill can be taught to anyone, it's not special. Your ability to express yourself is a journey you must make yourself take, all on your own, and it is invaluable.
