HI LET’S SHARE NICOLE’S WORDS ON THE SUBJECT!Â
It has been literal years but every time I see Martin’s tweets posted somewhere and his word is shared as truth while her post is not shared it sort of reiterates the fact that we trust men to speak about feminism more than we believe women who experience it.Â
Interesting, innit? https://medium.com/@nickyknacks/working-while-female-59a5de3ad266
Reading her account of how their boss treated her blows me away. Men are so emboldened that they will literally admit to illegal discrimination casually and face no consequences.
In all the years of seeing this post I’ve never seen a link to her side. Didn’t even know she’d written one.
Adding screenshots of her post. His whole post is there without needing a link. Hers should be, too.
Also, she posted this is 2017! It’s fucking 2020 and I’ve seen his side of this for years, but it took 3 years for her side to make its way to my dash…
I’ve reblogged his story at least twice; it’s time for Nicole’s.
Reblogged him, bout time I got to reblog her.
Watching Stargate SG1 for the first time.
Please tell me O'Neil and Jackson's get less chill with the rampant misogyny and rape attempts?
Episode 4 is all, so long as they haven't killed Sam it's fine for them to talk down to her and dress her like a doll, even to talk down to her and call her hot in their garb ourselves, but ah fuck maybe selling her is a bit much.
And episode 5 starts with a woman about to be raped and Carter tries to help only to be stopped by O'Neil and Jackon who are going on like "well hey, most early hominid reproduction would have been violent as a survival of the fittest affair so intervening would be more messed up than letting it happen if you think about it."
Episode 4 is notoriously hated by almost every Stargate Fan out there. It's basically a recycled Star Trek The Next Generation Season 1 Script for a notoriously racist episode of that show called Code of Honor.
The sexism and misogyny do get better at the series goes on, though you will have to suffer through Hathor S01E14, Jolinar's Memories S03E12, The Devil You Know S03E13, , Upgrades S04E03, Crossroads S04E04, and Divide and Conquer S04E05, which are, as far as I remember, the worst offenders in the series.
Considering the planet/monster of the week format how much do I lose out on if I just skip the episodes in the handy hotlist you just gave me?
Sadly, kind of a lot. Hathor sets up some major parts of the mythology going forward. Jolinar's Memories and The Devil You Know are the big season three 2 parter which has a major impact on the status quo for the series. Upgrades and Divide and Conquer you could probably skip, but the season 4 finale will make pretty much zero sense if you skip crossroads. That said, none of it even remotely approaches the level of sexism in S01E04 and S01E05. Hathor is just a classic "Female Alien uses pheromones to take control of the men" plot. Upgrades, Crossroads and Divide and Conquer feature the franchises attempt to add a 7 of 9 style "sexy alien" (who thankfully disappears, never to be seen again). Jolinar's Memories and The Devil You Know are, legitimately really good episodes, they just go to a very, very dark place.
Guess I'll bear with them then. I managed to get through S01E04 and S01E05 unprepared so if you reckon the later episodes are less egregious about the sexism than those and I know to brace I've seen enough potential now to be willing to ride em out.
Seeing the crew have to deal with one of their own going full white saviour with a god complex in The First Commandment plus The energy being doing emotional vulnerability on Jack's behalf and Jack responding in kind in Cold Lazarus followed up by the planet of pacifists with stealth tech and revival abilities in The Nox seems to indicate that the writers has some kind of awareness about how they needed to dial back the imperialist and otherwise -ist behaviours and mindsets being put forward by the first few episodes. And the movie.
In seasons 2 and onward, the fight between the main characters and branches of the government that want to go full Manifest Destiny becomes a bit of a recurring theme.

Hey, My name is Molly J. Bragg. I'm an a small press author with 8 published book… Molly Bragg needs your support for Help Molly Repair
Hey,
My name is Molly J. Bragg. I'm an a small press author with 8 published books. I'm currently having some computer issues. Unfortunately, my laptop is out of warranty, so I'm trying to raise $450 to get some repairs done. I need a new keyboard, new cooling fan and a larger hard drive. I hate to ask people for money, but due to a recent move, and some medical issues in the family, I'm currently low on funds.
I know things are tight right now, but any help would me appreciated, even if it's just sharing this with other people who might be able to donate.
Thanks for your time, and any assistance you can offer.
