all the adults in mack’s life have always placed the weight of the world on his shoulders and he’s always born it without complaint. growing up, he was always by far the best player on every team, and so the responsibility of dragging his team to wins always sat with him. if mack didn’t shine, they lost. this is not something new or unique to his time with team canada and the sharks. it’s the grave weight he’s carried pretty much his whole young career. the sharks only won two games last season where mack didn’t record a point, and mack had a point in every single terriers win except one. his coaches and his teammates and everyone watching knew it. if they won, it was because of mack, and if they lost, mack believed it was because of him, too.
that kind of pressure on a kid for so long has to have had a lasting impact, and yet everyone who’s ever talked about him can’t help but gush about how kind and fun he is, how he conducts himself exactly like sid off the ice, how he cares more about the game than anyone they’ve ever met and still treats everyone so well. mack clearly still struggles with anxiety and the pressure and his emotions, and there are times when he can’t hold it in and it ruins him a little, voice cracking, eyes watering, everything bursting through the cracks as his body shakes and he can’t seem to keep how upset he is at bay, but he’s always quick to compose himself after and stuff everything back down behind an “i’m okay, i was made for this, i can handle it, this is what i was built for” mask as he smiles again and forces himself not to express any insecurities out loud, knowing that the next day, the cycle will repeat again. everyone will rely on him again. and he can’t afford to let them see how desperate he is not to let them down. and how responsible he feels whenever he isn’t enough

Knowing sweetheart Celewienie has been adopted (shown on their website) what if Will falls in love with her but to be a responsible person (always on the road etc) he entrusted a friend in the Bay Area with the little pup, so he can still visit her frequently. New season starts, Mack noticed Will always on the phone texting and giggling. It’s fine maybe just memes and stuffs. Sometimes Will bakes some tiny teeny weird looking cookies when Mack trying to steal one Will just shoo him away and says that’s not for you! Mack is a bit hurt but it’s fine maybe those are for rink staffs. They still hang out a lot as usual but like, Will goes on grocery shopping for 2 hours a time. Mack gotta say it’s very weird now okay? And when Toff asked Will if he’s coming over to his, Will replied instantly with “I’ve a thing with Celly later on”, while Mack knows they do not have any plans later on. Anyways Mack freaks out, jealous for sure and skeptical af. Turns out this Celly is Celewienie, it’s not a side piece it’s a fucking adorable dachshund, just one visit with Will to see her, Mack already researching tiny dog clothes and ordering bunch of chew toys.

(sometimes he refuses for a moment, just to see mack pout and whine, before inevitably giving in) once, in the heat of the moment, mack pulled too hard, and the little links snapped and the chain clattered to the floor. mack was distraught, and made will drive to the jewelry store first thing in the morning for a replacement. and an extra, just in case.
mack gifting will a new charm for his birthday or christmas. maybe a star, from his superstar. maybe something with alexandrite, an extremely rare, expensive gem, and one of june's birthstones. it coincidentally has a green shift; shining the color of mack's eyes in the right light. will starts kissing it before each game instead of the cross.
later down the line, a wedding ring. a circle of platinum tucked safely under will's jersey, flush to his heart. when mack sees the chain poking out at the nape of his neck, he thinks about the ring, and his heart swells. will rubs it between his thumb and forefinger for good luck. feels for the engraving, mack's messy scrawl, on the inside.
mack has his own now, a dainty gold strand with his wedding band the sole adornment. will pays him back, and tugs him around by it like a collar. loves the angry red indent it leaves on his skin.
ahh yes.. the dog representing sjs for the stanley pup is a wiener dog named Macklin Celewienie .. being accompanied by dog-lover macklin celebrini-lover will smith hockey .. right. right. the lore writes itself
