same sky, new destiny

Earlier today I had an intriguing mental image for Archetwist Kairi’s Dream Drop Distance outfit, but it kinda slipped through my mental fingers before I was able to draw it so now I’m not sure this is quite what it was. Hmm.

idk why i did this except i miss this au and also my buddy Jun made an excellent model of Lunar Eclipse and I wanna use it a lot

I find this ask kind of interesting in that I don’t agree that Namine “clearly” had romantic feelings for Sora in canon. Like honestly, I do ship them a little in fandom and I totally understand how someone could interpret her feelings as romantic with even just very loose-fitting shipper goggles. But ultimately KH canon, to me, is overwhelmingly about friendship and platonic love. Nothing about it INSISTS on romantic feelings, to me. Except maybe Sokai, but that’s done with so little grace that it actually soured me for the ship. 

Anyway my point is that the shipping in this AU is based entirely on my self-indulgent tastes, not mirrors of what I consider to be actually canon. A true and pure KH role reversal thing should be just as non-romantic as canon, imo. But I’m neither true nor pure so... here we are. 

I’m actually replaying Chain of Memories at the moment, and just got the part in Sora’s story where he learns about what Namine did to him. So I’d say that in the spirit of what this AU was originally designed to be (same personality, just different happenstance), he’d react the same way here. To quote:

“It's like this... I'm really not happy about you messing with my memories. But...you know---I can't really get mad at you for it, either. These memories you gave me... In my head, I know they're lies---but they still feel right. Like the promise I made. I said I would protect you and that I wouldn't make you cry...not ever. Naminé...if you cry now---I'll feel guilty, like I let you down."

The way I interpret this is: “No, the past didn’t actually contain that scene of you being scares of meteors. But if it HAD, I know that my reaction to you would have been exactly how you wrote it. I can’t get too mad about you making up lies, because they’re not entirely lies. I’d totally be here trying to save you either way.” So here, his reaction to Roxas’ meddling would be, “I know my friends are just doing what they feel in their hearts is right, whether they’re ‘remembering’ my face or yours. I can’t be mad at them for doing what’s in their nature: rescuing a friend.” 

Like, maybe if he’d heard the “Off to save Roxas” story WITHOUT knowing about the brain-meddling, he’d be down about getting ditched again. But even the barest hint of “they’re being controlled or bamboozled in some way” is enough for him to brush off any amount of abuse or neglect. Canon Repliku was never anything but an asshole to him, but Sora was just like, “He’ll be fine once I fix him,” the whole time. So. Yeah.
