I just saw a post on gun prop safety, and I wanted to go over nooses. Because you should NEVER put an actual noose around your neck. This is for people cosplaying, doing stage, or looking at doing this for halloween. Again, NEVER tie an actual noose around your neck, no matter what it’s made out of. I’m going to go over how I did the noose for the Nicodemus cosplay here:

Things you’ll need: Rope, scissors/knife for cutting the rope, electrical tape or a lighter depending upon the material of the rope, closures: Velcro or magnetic, heavy duty thread about the same color as your rope.

1) Buy the rope you want to use. Buy more than you think you need (maybe 10ft). Creating the noose takes up a lot of rope. 

2) Make the noose. There are plenty of places you can get instructions.

3) See how the back of the noose is hidden by a collar? Cut the side of the loop farthest from the noose knot.

4) Depending upon your rope, seal all open ends by either burning them or taping around the outside of the end with electrical tape. Now you have a noose knot open on both ends.

5) On the ends that you did NOT cut, that were always open, attach closures.

Now you can put the noose on and attach the closures to make it form a loop around your neck. It’s going to be upside down. But it’ll look VERY similar to a right side up noose. Now if some idiot comes up and pulls on one of the open ends, it won’t tighten properly like a noose does. And if it DOES tighten or pull, the pressure will pull the velcro/magnet closure open rather than strangling you. But we’re not done.

6) Adjust the noose so that it’s as tight as you want it to be around your neck.

7) Use the heavy duty thread and, as far into the knot as you can reasonably reach on the side that’s going to be facing against your body, sew through each side of the rope several times to sew the two ropes together. Now people shouldn’t be able to tighten the ropes even if they wanted to, because pulling on one of them pulls on both of them.

8) Cut and re-seal excess rope off of the ends. Then go out and have a great time with your safe® noose.
