separated from her parents as a kid bc their village was pillaged
always knows where north is and what time of day it is

okay guys you need to know how much violence the dm unleashed on kyra. we first find brynne's brother undead staring at a cell's door in an old monastary. our sorcerer tries to Message him bc we were unsure if he was undead. he charges on us, kyra on her turn shows him the locket necklace she got from brynne house that has a picture of the siblings. the brother wastes his turn staring at the locket. we have to put him down bc he was beyond saving. kyra rushes to the cell door, it's locked from the inside, kyra finds her dead from lack of water and food, having watched her brother try to get in her cell while slowly dying inside. she buries both of them in the unaffected area of the monastery, with the locket and with wildflower the party's rogue helped pick bc we know she liked and preserved flowers.......
i realized i didn't add an option for me fhrleuigfreuwi

β’ You're safe now. You're here, you're safe, and I've got you. Just breathe. from thaisha ? on @aramans
there are moments when the weight of what she has lost πππππππ πππ ππππ ππ ππππ. she had spent what felt like a lifetime grieving the loss of a husband: first in spirit, then in death. and yet that grief seems now more manageable than the horror that faces her every waking hour. the extent to which her house has fallen, and it has fallen, still unknown to her looms like a great cloud over her. during the day, her thoughts are filled with the fate of the golden orchard, of her brother. in the night, she is haunted by the face of primus tachonis, great ghostly hands reaching across the sky to find her, to turn her into something unholy.
all of this lives within her upon the road, though she shares her fears with no one. except for her eyes, great green and golden pools of weeping, she is a mask of motherly love. not even julian, who in his own grief has turned to fussing over her when he is not stalking the shadows, does she let in. but there is only so long one can hide how deeply terror has gripped them. and in a moment where she is meant to be alone, back pressed against the bark of a tree far away from camp, aranessa lets herself fall apart.
she does not know how long she has been crying before thaisha finds her, she only knows that when arms wrap around her frame, she collapses into them. slowly, as thaisha repeats over and over again, ' you are safe. i am here. just breathe ', aranessa begins to find herself again. blinking away tears, she pulls back from her companion, eyes fixed on some spot in the distance. " forgive me, thaisha. i don't know what came over me. everything is happening so quickly, i forgot myself. " / @aramans.
there's been many years that she has not spoken to aranessa. even before thjazi had parted from her, thaisha's calling had led her down a different part. but a promise uttered a long time ago, still remains true for both of them. aranessa is family, she is her sister no matters what madness falls upon this world. β hey, hey... β she whispers in a smooth and gentle tone. it's one she's used countless time while holding hal. or sitting by alogar's bed as he grew up. calming shadia before a performance. her purpose had called her elsewhere but a part of her heart had always resided with them. her hands cup aranessa's cheeks brushing away any of the remaining tears.
β none of that, β she shakes her head, thick curls bouncing with the motion. β not with me, all right? β she does not need to hide it for thaisha's sake. none of the pretenses aranessa has grown to follow, are expected to apply in this situation. the thing with losing everything is that it allows space for new things to grow. but that is not something thaisha will speak out loud at this time. not until she thinks arenessa will be ready to hear it.
β you're in a lot of pain right now, and you never need to hide that from me, nessa. β hala slithers away from them in the grass, keeping an eye out for trouble. she leans forward, brushing a kiss on top of aranessa's head, her tusks brushing right at her hairline, and as she does the branches from the tree lower slightly to obscure the pair for a little more privacy.
Julienβs giddiness was almost embarrassing, for some reason he felt like he wanted to laugh out loud, only stopped by the need for stealth the task required. He hadnβt realized how much he missed this, the simple and thrilling adrenaline of action, no politics, no plots and schemes, no skulking around manors to slit the throat of killers. The rush blood running through his veins felt like it could wash him anew. The Halovars might argue on the righteousness of his task, but Julienβs conscience was clear. More than that, he kept thinking of Azuneβs face when the two finally reunited. That, he knew well, was a mistake. How many times had he warned his soldiers, do not celebrate until the job is done and youβre back at the tavern with a drink in your hand.
He shook himself and jumped off the wagon after her, leather boots silent as cat paws on the cobblestones.Β
βI do not doubt you could, my lady,β cheeky bastard, even as his eyes were focused and business-like, the arrogant grin remained, unapologetic. βIn case we get separated, weβre making our way up toββ he stopped in his tracks, a soldierβs instinct and mistrust kicking in. Already celebrating a victory that still wasnβt there.
Julienβs hand set on Mayaliβs shoulder, still careful not to trigger her fight instincts, and nodded towards an alley, they were too exposed on the street.Β
βI need to ask you something before I disclose our plans to you or arm you for that matter,β he explained in a hush voice as they slipped into the darkness. βI need to know itβs you.βΒ
He could have kicked himself. He hadnβt thought of asking Azune for a question such as he had offered Mayali, they needed to know it was her. It all felt too easy, too good to be true. His mind scrambled through that conversation nights before, the little gems of memory he had given him, anything he hadnβt already given to her or couldnβt have been easily guessed by an interrogator. Bolaireβs keen questions towards Teorβs brother came back to him, something personal but unimportant.
He remembered upon seeing Azuneβs braided charm, how simple it had looked. The kind of thing others might overlook as worthless. Would she even know he had that?
βAzune carries something of yours, call it a family heirloom. Do you remember or at least imagine what it is?β It was a long shot, but it was all he had.Β
mayali wasnβt quite sure what caught his attention so suddenly that the words stopped in his mouth. she couldnβt see any figure tracking them, but maybe he had any arcane means she couldnβt tell. but there was something sharp enough to make the shift from the almost obnoxiously playful demeanor to that of a seasoned soldier. still there was no complain of being pulled into the familiarity of the shadows, rather than the danger of an open street.
the request wasnβt that outrageous, after all he had shared information only azune would have known to make sure she believed this knight was send by her brother. it was almost oddly protective. not of her, but of her brother. that was something she needed to dig in once their lives werenβt on the line. how had her brother earned that kind of devotion from a man formerly sworn to a noble house was beyond her.
βi canβt believe he still has it,β she breathed, having one specific item in mind. they had nothing to take on the road with them when they left home but the clothes on their back, and each other. except for one very specific thing. and if the man knew about, she didnβt doubt their close relationship. βi liked to weave with threads as a kid, and i had made a bracelet for myself. it was colorful, with red, orange, yellow, blue and purple threads like our eyes.β her grandmother had first taught her how, and had shown her how memories could be woven in beautiful tapestries and fabrics to be preserved as they passed down generations. βone day, i gave it to azune because he was upset and told him that as long as he wore it and no matter how far away i was, he would not be alone.β
a single tear run down her cheek but mayali made no move to wipe it, instead she reached for a necklace tucked under her own armor and revealed in the low light of the alley. βi redid it after we got separated with whatever threads i could find. hoping that if i wore one too, my words would somehow come true, and that weβd both survive.β the colors were different, as she was able to use only what was left of the clothes she wore that day, but the pattern of weaving was the same.
βif we're done with the interrogation,β she whispered, quickly brushing any moisture away, and her tone shifting to her previous one. βi'd like to see my little brother.β

The swordsman stilled, head tilted back just enough to keep the blade from nicking at his skin. He had been too focused on speed and efficiency, thought, wrongly it seems, that heβd find a huddled figure, too wounded or tired to fight. The ready welcome with the sharp glint of an edge is received with a near feral grin, wide and insolent. It made him feel oddly proud for some reason, as if this was his own sister, showing she hadnβt given up. Good, they had no time to carry her.
βEasy,β slowly he showed the palms of his hands, carefully placing the rapier on the wagonβs floor. βPerhaps you should know Royce is no more, and Iβm not here on their behalf. Azune sent me.β He let the name settle between them for a second so it was clearly understood. βYour name is Mayali, yes? Youβre Azuneβs older sister. One year older to be exact. He saidβ¦ you would run for hours in the fields near your home, and you always brought a blanket for him because he didnβt like the sensation of the grass.β That memory quietly came back to him, Azuneβs dreamy expression, full of bittersweet yearning for a past long gone, held in his arms as he bared his heart to Julien. They were so alike this woman and his love, a harsher life perhaps, but the same sunset eyes that almost made him dizzy when paired with such a withered expression. It put so much of what Azune had told him in a far too tangible perspective.Β
Tentatively, he placed his hand over the blade, not pushing it but asking for it to be lowered.Β
βAzune sent me to find you, I am here at his command. He said to tell you: Remember.β The last word was spoken in his best approximation of navikaan. He and Azune had sat for hours, repeating the same word over and over until he got it right, not an entirely easy task with Julienβs own accent stumbling him through every syllable. But it seemed important to this plan, crucial even. That Mayali understood he had not just heard it in passing, but was able to reproduce it as close as possible to Azuneβs own voice.
βIβll tell you everything but we need to move fast. Can you walk?β He offered his hand, oddly gallant in the clandestine setting so that it was almost funny. The beautiful knight appeared as if just stepping from a tale to save the damsel in distress. He seemed to notice it as well because he gave her that wild and boyish grin again. βI was told you were kind of a menace, donβt disappoint me now.β
azune sent me. the words froze whatever thoughts were going through her mind. and instead of the soldier standing in front of her, it was her little brother as she'd seen him a while ago. with tears muddling his sunset eyes as he begged her to stay with him. just like he had when they were kids, asking their mama to stay. mayali knew he would realize in time that staying behind would be a fate that meant death, just like back when they had been kids. so instead she had focused on how healthy he looked. he'd put on more weight and muscle than her mind could picture on her scrawny little brother. she was aware that didn't mean fate had been kind to him, after all she had taken note of his scars, but it had been better than hers and that was the biggest gift he could have given her.
apparently, that wasn't all he'd given her. because here they were, offering her freedom in the form of a former, if his words were to be believed, royce knight. she wasn't sure if she believed him entirely. there was a lot of powerful magic in this world. the argosians had used a way to turn the timmonish king's allies against him. the houses had sorcery that could penetrate thoughts. perhaps they'd used that on her little brother in their attempt to track her down. but she knew the kind of arrogance people like them had, and she didn't think that was a memory any of them would deem to be of importance. but her little brother would, for all the afternoons he curled up at her side tired after a day of play. her expression softened and tentatively she lowered the blade.
she was proven right, because his next words rewarded her. inxolotle. sunset eyes shifted shut, as a mist pooled in his eyes. the cadence was so close to azune's despite the different accent. even if it was all a ruse, then... if there was anything to lead her to death, may it be her brother's memory. mayali didn't realize that she had repeated the word under her breath.
the following words pulled her back to the present, and a away from memories that felt like they happened a lifetime away. βi can manage if you lead the way.β she said, without as much bite as before. her body ached, but it was nothing like she hadn't done before. her grip was tight despite the restraints leaving her fingers bruised. she didn't smile, she hadn't smiled for many many years, but there was a glint in her eyes that mirrored her brother's. βso that's what he's saying behind my back?β it was almost foreign on her tongue, the kind of teasing they would've traded before everything turned to fire and ash. she'd ask for his well-being later, when there was time.
for a second she eyed the soldier, he didn't wear any heavy armor that would make it harder to hide in the shadows. good, that would be on their side. βd'you have any extra daggers? they took my weapons.β she asked as she hit the ground with light footwork. she was trusting him with everything, and if they run into any trouble she would be useless like that. βif i wanted to kill you, i'd have done so inside, my lord.β how's that for menace?
β¦ β π€ β β¦ πππππ ππ ππππ ππππππ Β·Β·Β· a collection of injuries tended in silence, pain worn like armour, the intimacy of being seen at your worst. genre: hurt and comfort, angst, romance, drama.
β’ You're bleeding through your shirt. Don't tell me you're fine. β’ How long have you been walking around like this? β’ I'm not going to hurt you. I just need to see how bad it is. β’ You should have told me the moment it happened. β’ Hold still. I mean it. Hold still. β’ This is going to sting. You could have died and I would have been the last person to know. β’ Sleep. I'll be right here when you wake up. I'm not going anywhere. β’ You're allowed to make a sound. Nobody's watching. β’ I need you to stay awake for me. Just a little longer. Talk to me. β’ You're lucky the cut wasn't deeper.Β β’ Stop apologizing for needing help. Stop it right now. β’ I've seen what it looks like when someone's used to this. That's what scares me most about you. β’ Tell me your name. Tell me what day it is. Stay with me. β’ You're going to be alright. I promise you.Β β’ You went back out there after this? With this? β’ Nobody takes care of you, do they? That ends tonight. β’ I've been gentle with you. [ @troublemqkers | from hal, to thaisha! ]
ever since they reunited, thaisha could sense the tension coming off of him in waves. it is strange to come out of the eternal night, witnessing the horror of the ritual the tachonis planned to use occtis for. the profane well of orcish blood to be used their people from tansul's followers. the letter in her pocket weighing heavily as she's called to her circle in dol-rungja. an order she ignored over the more urgent matters in this city, but she can't linger on those thoughts right now.
because those she left safe in the city, appear to be far more rattled than she would have thought. she sits by hal, taking one of his hand in her own two. it'll will always be as easy as breathing to read what hal is thinking. βhey,β she speaks, trying to catch his gaze and squeezes his hand in comfort, because she's never seen him so concerned. βis this about your brother?β
And I love themπ
@davin0s asked: the sender comes to rescue the receiver and free them from a prison cell. - mayali!
fucking halovars. she'd been aware the reckoning would one day come for her. two loose ends had disappeared from that night and only one was protected from the argosian government. the timmonish king continued to live and searched for his assassins. house halovar may have many negative attributes but they were not by any means a fool. she knew how to hide and disappear from the world. she'd done it for years, but her brother's appearance had rattled her. she'd been prepared to die for him. to not let pay the price for every mistake she'd made in the past decade and a half. but he'd saved her in return.
truthfully, she expected when the house caught up to her that she be met with filoneus' blade and not manacles around her hands. it meant they weren't done with her, and that prospect was far more worrying than her capture. if she'd calculated right, it must have been nightfall by now. she couldn't see out the back of the carriage they had her in, but the movement had stopped, and she could no longer hear murmurs outside.
she expected a different blade to come when the back of the carriage flied open. when something released her manacled feet, hands. a spellcaster's manacles with separated fingers to avoid any risk of her slipping through their capture. a small blade too hidden even for halovars to find, pressed against the figure's neck. it's at a dangerous spot, but the blade just nicked the skin. mayali knew the precise amount of pressure it required for damage to be done, but she didn't apply it. not yet, not until she understood the motivations of what this was. no one from her guild would be stupid enough to come, and they knew better than anyone that she'd die before she shared information.
in the moonlight she gets a glimpse of her rescuer. long dark curls, high cheekbones, almost too pretty to be a knight. sunset eyes focus on the metal, instead. a rapier and gauntlet, no doubt deadly on his hands, but with flower and nature embossing, too expensive for a simple soldier. royce. that she still remembers from the rebellion. white means cormoray. teal for halovar. purples and greens for tachonis, hammers for einfasen. what would royce want to do with her?
her free hand removed the gag around her mouth, not breaking eye contact. βwho sent you?β she whispered in a hissed tone. the muscles of her face ached moving after weeks of staying still. her voice gruff from not being used. a weapon doesn't care about who wields it, but she wants to make sure how she's going to be used first. βlast i knew, royce did not step into halovar's affairs.β certainly not mess with their prisoners.

i will kill you or you will kill me. or we will destroy each other.
youβre a materialist, like all ignorant people.
iβm not asking you to. i donβt even want you to.
they drive me as an ox to slaughter.
no one, not even you, can require me to justify my acts.
tell me all about it, but make sure you tell me the truth.
i own that i thought of myself, at times, almost as dead.
an angel is often only a demon who stands between us and our enemy.
do you know you are very handsome?
you're a soldier, then. i thought so.
there was a time when you told me i was not death.
everything was a relic. all the world was a relic.
there is no category of human activity in which the dead do not outnumber the living many times over.
so you knew i was here all along.
you think that time is a single thread. it is a weaving, a tapestry that extends forever in all directions.
i didnβt say i wouldnβt hurt you.
it must be a terrible thing to move backward in time, and still more terrible to pass backward through death.
itβs been a long time since i was here last.
you need not feign sympathy. it suits you badly.
when the fire dies, you die too.
i can fight better than most of them, and iβm sick of being called a whore.
instead of unmasking your face, you must unmask your spirit.
we take no delight in what we do, except in doing it well.
you think whatever is wrong with you is contagious, then?
i am a butcher of men.
you must have killed all the worst parts of your own being.
you have no power over me, neither you nor they.
the stars got brighter, didn't they?
we should be friends then, you and i, as two of similar background usually are.
iβm never completely at ease amongst crowds.
you are the advocate of the dead.
even the powers of heaven find it necessary to employ devils.
he is ironstrong in some ways, weak in many others.
to drink is to live, to be bathed in water is to have a new birth.
courtesy, i fear, demands that you enter first.
i ought to have killed you, that night when you slept in my bed.
so now you know all, and you have me where you want me.
to name is to call. that is the law.
is all the world a war of good and bad? have you not thought it might be something more?
we are almost what you think us β powers from above the stage. only not quite deities.
