I’ve always supported the phrase ignorance is bliss, but only for simple reasons such as being unaware that something as stupid as a spider is in my room but still sleeping in there peacefully. I feel as if everyone reaches a certain point in his or her life in which he/she becomes truly aware of his or her surroundings. This is the point of no return. No return from the pain that life offers. Once one has knowledge of the hurt, malice, and dishonesty of the world there is an underlying pain that continues on, this pain is closer to the surface for some more than others but it still is present. As much happiness as one can get from being a working class hero is used to repress this pain, but guess what? It’s still there. Now if this knowledge of the negativity of the world was gone or in others words, ignorance, the pain would disappear and one would be left with bliss and true happiness. I am now starting realize why Holden Caulfield wants to catch children off the the cliff to adulthood. He wants to save them the way he wishes someone had saved him because Holden is now aware of the pain of the adult world. This is why being a child is when one is at his or her happiest point because their ignorance is what allows them to be so care free and happy. There is not even enough dendritic branching within the brain at this age to make complete sense of the world nor feel life’s pain. This is why ignorannce is bliss.
