The thing about Abby vs MIkael being a thing and the motive behind her leaving, even that wasn't about Bonnie in canon, it was about Elena which was bullshit. That whole arc should have been Bonnie focused. Like I would have respected Abby so much more if she had desiccated Mikael because she saw him as a threat to Bonnie. If she left after losing her powers afterwards because she knew she wouldn't be able to beat him again were he released but she left because she wanted him to go after her and not Bonnie or Sheila so she put the target on her own back knowing if Mikael ever resurfaced she would be his target but once again Bonnie would be safe. Abby's whole arc was a flop because it wasn't about Bonnie and it was her own damn mother. Caroline got more screen time with Abby than Bonnie did. 

It would have made sense for Mikael to go after Bonnie even given canon and instead of having Klaus have a weak ass redemption arc it could have been him and the MFG forced to work together to face a common enemy and everyone rallying to protect Bonnie for once and Klonnie being built from that. Because as much as they talked Mikael up in TVD canon with Klaus needing a whole ass army for this dude once he got on canvas he wasn't all that formidable at all and he died hella quick. It was ridiculous. I don't know what they did with him on TO but they wasted him on TVD and Sebastian Roché is a good ass actor and he can play the hell out of a role. If we had gotten to see him play off JoMo more and play opposite KG that would have been fucking amazing. But we couldn't have nice things.

Honestly, I've said this before but all of the Originals given their history and given Esther sponging off the Bennett line should have had a vested interest in Bonnie period. There were so many storylines that could have gone on, pairings aside. But also just she could have been paired with literally any of the Mikaelson siblings at any point. They even went as far as to have Kol flirt with Caroline and Meredith at one point. Klaus hooked up with Hayley and she got a whole ass spinoff after 2.5 seconds of screen time. The Originals even came after Matt's basic ass, for what reason? Like it was always literally anyone but Bonnie. Any outlandish pairing or scenario just to avoid giving Bonnie any shine.

Ok so, Abby comes back and turns out, she was a good parent all along with inherited Bennett self-valuing skills. Mikael is a LOT more dangerous than what we were shown and needs a lot of juice to take down. Katherine does the dumb dumb and opens to tomb only he enslaves her and makes her into a mindless puppet because! MM cam mind control vamps courtesy of his ex wifey.

He is very pissed off at Abby and swears revenge on all the Bennetts. He still wants to kill Klaus and all that. Butttttttt, Abby is smart and decides to strike a deal with the hybrid to release his werewolf side. Through this truce, he gets close with Bonnie and starts eyeing some of that Bennett good good which Abby is NOT cool with.

There's a climax, Mikael dies but not without ensuring his ex comes back to finish the job. Resulting in a two part series I KNOW I won't finish.
