years ago i read a fic that took place during the banishment, not too far into it, when shens feelings on it were still more fresh and raw, and really the main thing i remember of it was that of all things, he had brought with him his childhood. like. ceremonial crown in a worn box
just to occasionally open it up and look at it. it was too small to wear now. and then he'd close it up again and continue on about his day
just a very small thing but i still really enjoy the visual tbh. i seem to recall some prose about the mixture of feelings he got from looking at it, including potentially regret, but it's been too long for me to remember now
all this to say i like these kinds of headcanons for him that show his Awareness and that he's conflicted very deeply about what he's done and still doing, even tho he does continually Ignore The Epiphany and dig his heels in even more
