Doctor: Fear guides him more than he consciously realizes. He's a big monster, unable to blend in without causing a scene. Part of him feels shame if the circus has to travel through more conventionally 'human' means as his presence alone makes that difficult. He cannot go out like the others do, and it doesn't bother him much as Doc prefers his solitude as well as the company of his experiments. However, the few times he is outside, wanting to go into a shop that has equipment he could use, the bird man makes sure the coast is clear before walking inside. He'll wait all afternoon if need be just to do one errand because of what he is and the fear of how people would react to him. Halloween is when he's truly free.
