all she ever wanted was to have a life - a life worth living, that was fulfilling, and that had endless possibilities because she was free. no one could say she didn't give it a good ole try, and no one could say she wasn't happy. the problem with life is that it's not just 100% happiness all the time no matter what you try to do, there will always be bumps in the road, and one of the biggest ones for sylvie is . . .

well, unresolved trauma. a thousand fucking years of unresolved trauma.

maybe in the beginning she'd say that she didn't have that, that with he who remains death and even the fight after she finally had the clarity to be a mentally healthy person, but it took . . . not long to realize she was more fucked than she realized. might have even snapped at a few people and had some pretty awful dreams. she even started therapy (though that was weird...how do you explain to a therapist, in the 80s, that you're not human? she quit after two sessions).

it wasn't just her past trauma that bothered her, though. it was the knowledge that loki was just . . . up there somewhere, holding onto the multiverse, alone. no one to talk to or pester or be around. here sylvie was with the entirety of the multiverse at her figurative fingertips, she could go anywhere, and she was stalling out because loki LITERALLY had the multiverse in their hands and was without family or friends.

solitude. at least they had that. though they wish they could watch the stars that they were onoce so afraid of. what was this if not another fall through space. something so familiar in the cold, dark embrace of the stars that surround them. at least now their feet were planted firmly to the ground. maybe even a bit too much considering that they were quite literally tied to that chair by a thousand different timelines.

they almost -- almost -- jump at the sound of her voice. was this an illusion of their own? the solitude had surely been enough to drive he who remains a bit mad. was this just the start? how much destruction could that cause on its own?

❝           sylvie ?      ❞  they wished there was more confidence in their raspy voice. more relief. anything. but time however much or little of it had passed, had left them weary. they wish they could joke, as they look at her. fear overwhelming them for a moment.

so perhaps she could have tried to warn loki of her arrival, but how exactly was she supposed to do that? they didn't exactly have a tempad to interact with anymore, out here in space where it would eventually need to be charged. loki can't move from this throne, that was clear, but it was the first time she could exactly how stuck they were up close. there were so many branches it was a miracle sylvie could see loki this close. feet away and they'd be completely surrounded.

         " you didn't think i was going to let you spend all of eternity up here always alone, did you? i realized i still have this device, and it brings me here effortlessly. well . . . it would have been effortless, if most of the floor still existed, " she said with a small shrug. sylvie watched them for a moment before gently, and carefully, kneeling next to them on the ground. felt more secure that way.

           " i mean - " and for just a moment she has to pause, because sylvie's voice is threatening to crack and she's afraid to cry right now. things are too raw; vulnerable.
