All that being said I still get whiplash when I see how big alnst has become remembering it's baby stages, literally every store is chock full of acrylic merch bootleg or not... Actually that applies to anime/anime adjacent things in general we are in new times since when I can buy merch in person
Ok hi back from grad trip (got a fever after it cheers) I didn't have high expectations for zomst because after seeing how much messier the alnst worldbuilding and themes became as it progressed I kind of felt like. Ok just let the story die and the franchise can continue pumping merch indefinitely so vvmng can continue pulling bucks while they get to exercise their creative muscles on something new. But I was shocked actually the storytelling felt much more crisp compared to alnst r1, like both series are supposed to be commentary on the idol industry but zomst r1 was much more scathing. zomizi only having her face eaten but the rest of her is intact so she's only seen as a body was cool... sua dismayed at mizis objectification by the industry BUT also at the fact that mizi isn't pure and innocent for her anymore also very good... Yeah i liked it I think. I think? Also the song was good (Forever a jpop lover...) Excited to see where it goes also to see my beautiful husband hyuna...
My issue with alnst is that like, okay it's fine to have a series be sparse with content wrt the yt vids, but the way the story itself is told kind of contradicts it OK THIS IS A TERRIBLE EXPLANATION. Alnst has no metaphor, all the information is given to us straight up but the yt vids don't do much for characterisation, which is a bad method of conveying broader themes, this is supposed to be resolved by the comics which do a LOT OF heavy lifting but the comics 1)are not promoted at all 2)knowing that there is a huge intl audience, the eng translation is still patreon only??? Just kind of an irritating way to run a mixed media (? if you want to call it that) series. E.g mizis characterisation so her experiences with being objectified and heteronormativity are such an integral aspect to her character which explains why she chooses to fight back/isolate herself in the end but you just cannot derive that from the yt vids in my experience idk they're all in the comics. Also the story started feeling very... character driven? This character does this and that rather than the story arising as a result of the environment iykwim I cant explain it my point is that the commentary aspect felt lost!!!! Ah it's hard to explain!!!! But my hopes are higher for zomst after r1. If vvmng are insistent on not using any kind of metaphor for the social commentary they clearly want to convey then they can only either make the comics for accessible or become even more on the nose in the vids.... This will not become a zomst account though lol

Honestly though i don't understand the people bitching that ego is a bad coach and that thus makes him a bad character we knew he was an ass from the beginning he told us that blue lock was based on his own biases and him trying to find his god of football the storyline is going in a logical direction...im glad because if the story would've stuck to ego is the only way to be a striker etc it would've felt so flat.
