Prompt 8
I found a tumblr page based around the work that goes into creating picture books, and how the authors come up with their ideas. The page has regular updates of pictures books. The page includes authors stories, inspiration, and information about the illustrationsÂ
Prompt 5-Dust Questions
What do you think the book is about based on the title and subtitle?
What colours or artistic elements can you see, why do you think they have been used?
What are the images you can see in the front cover, what do they represent?
The top and bottom half of the page are two different colours, what do you think this represents?
What comes to mind when you see this cover?
On my placement I was able to experience reading and writing at a range of levels. I loved how some students would almost demand to read to me, one student who struggled to read would always ask me to read a book for them during reading time, often they would just sit and do nothing because they had difficulty reading. Helping this student through their book and seeing them slowly improve at reading over the 2 weeks was an amazing experience. The students were learn how to respond to text, pictures, videos and experience while i was their. Getting to create most of the writing lessons I loved choosing the prompts and seeing how the students responded to them, however it was a bit upsetting when the students gave a feelings statement about how they didn't enjoy the prompt that I chose.Â

I remember in grade 3, my teacher read ‘The Hobbit’, to the whole class. It was one of their favourite books, they wanted to share their love for this novel to us. I can’t recall how long it took for us to get through the book, or if we ever finished it as a class, but a few year later i read it again myself. Through out the time we read the book we were given activities to do based on the book, some where drawings of what we imagined from the author, after reading it again i realised how much detail J.R.R Tolkien put into his books, this was a great activity, both for our imagination and our comprehension, as the author paints a word picture. However the activity I remember the most fondly was drawing a map of middle earth, we were given instruction on what it should look like, without seeing a picture, the teacher then burnt the edges of our maps and added coffee stains to create realism. It was this in-depth look and creative tasks that made me get engrossed in the book, I hadn’t been much of a reader at the time, but the teacher put so much heart into reading, and creating lessons around the book that I wanted to explore the book again by myself. I remember my dad being very surprised when 8 year old me was trying to read the hobbit by myself.
