Ruby gawked at her pretty blue nails as though they hadn’t always been some form of blue, and she showed off the deep red Steven had given her. “That’s wonderful! Steven is so kind— how’d we get so lucky to take care of a good kid like him, Sapph? I’m just— I’m impressed every day.”

Ruby cleared her throat with a lopsided grin, pressing a kiss to her beloved’s soft cheek. “But the rest of this day is about us! How have you been doing?”

Sapphire had mostly spent the day to herself , calm && collected per usual. Pearl had come && talked to her for a bit earlier in the day , mostly just about how annoying the noise the other three were making , but in all honesty Sapphire didn’t mind it. They were having much deserved fun – even Steven had given her a bottle of so - called ‘ nail polish ‘ to put on her , and a few coats later she had blue nails. So when Ruby called for her , her attention was taken from the bottle ( which she was reading. ) and she blushed. ‘ oh ! hello Ruby ! ‘

Ruby, almost immediately, felt her voice bubble up in a laugh and her legs speed up to get to Sapphire, lifting her up and into her arms with a grin.

“Oh, it’s been all day!” She squealed, unable and unwilling to be apart from Sapphire so long even on the best of days, making their reunions so much sweeter.

“You look great!” Ruby, enthusiastic as ever, cheered, giving Sapphire a glance over like anything substantial about her had changed, just in case it had so she could compliment her on it. “Did Steven give you some of that icky smelling color too?”

After a bit of being split up from Garnet, well, Ruby found she needed things to do to feel close to the ones she loved in.. quite the same way.

She’d spent time with Steven, who’d forced her into his most comfy pajamas, attempted to style her fluffy mass of hair, and painted her nails- she’d spent time with Amethyst, who was chill with just teaching Ruby more about her favorite video games- and she’d spent time with Pearl, simply drinking tea (she didn’t like it, but she wouldn’t tell Pearl) and chatting idly about life.

Now, she made her way to find her precious Sapphire after all, a Sapphire with too much free time could.. think too much. And she preferred having her close. “Sapphire?”
