RBI Grade B Eligibility 2022 – Age Limit & Relaxation
Coming to the topic of age limit, according to the RBI Grade B eligibility criteria as of 01st January 2021, you can’t take the exam if you are super smart or a genius who has cleared his college at the age of 18. That is because the minimum age limit to be able to sit for the exam is 21 years.
Whereas, the maximum age limit is 30 years. Thus, you also can’t take this exam if you had responsibilities in your 20’s and now want to be a Grade B officer in your 30’s. However, under some special circumstances, or cases, the RBI does grant provisions to take the exam even after the age of 30. To know the details about the same, keep on reading.
Here is the age eligibility:
The eligible age bracket ranges from the age of 21 to 30 years.
The upper age limit is 32 if you have M.Phil. and 34 if you have Ph.D.
The Upper age limit for OBC candidates is 33 years (only for non-creamy OBC candidates).
For SC/ST candidates, the upper age limit is 35 years.
Not only this, but You are also given a relaxation equal to the number of years of experience as an officer in Commercial Bank/ Financial Institution/RBI in the Public Sector with an upper cap of 3 years.
After reading the last point, someone might say that they had worked for 10 years in a bank and now they want 10 years of relaxation for the exam. Well, if that’s the case, know that it’s not Going to happen!!

RBI Grade B Eligibility Criteria
RBI had revised the Eligibility Criteria for the latest RBI Grade B exam, i.e., the 2021 exams. The key change was in the education-based eligibility criteria.
To elaborate, till the 2019 Grade B officer recruitments which were previous to the 2021 recruitments, candidates not only had to have a minimum of 60% marks in their graduation but also the same in their 10th and 12th mark sheets as well.
This has changed in the 2020-21 Grade B recruitments. Now the minimum requirement demands at least 60% marks in Graduation or 55% marks in Post Graduation. The clause about having a minimum of 60% in the 10th and 12th mark sheets has been scrapped.
You can know more about the updated criteria in the subsequent sections.
RBI Grade B Phase 1 and Phase 2 Cut Off
Know all about the RBI Grade B 2021 Cut off: Check Phase 1, Phase 2 & Final Cut offs. Also get the Past Years' Cut offs (2017, 2018 & 2019).
RBI Grade B Cut Off 2021 – Phase 1 (Prelims)
The RBI Grade B Phase 1 cut off for the year 2021 was comparatively lower than that of the previous year’s (2019’s) Phase 1 exams. This was due to the moderate to hard level of difficulty of the exam conducted this year.
As mentioned earlier, it came out on the 31st March this year, and it contains sectional cut offs according to the various subjects of the 2021 RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam.
You can check the 2021 RBI Grade B Cut Off for Phase 1 (General) in the table below:

RBI Grade B Phase 1 and Phase 2 Cut off
The RBI Grade B Phase 2 final cut offs were announced on the 20th of September 2021. As for the Phase 1 cut offs, it was released in the month of March, this year.
An important thing to keep in mind about RBI Grade B cut offs is that, in order to clear phase 1, you need to score above both the overall and the sectional cut off marks.
This means that the various sections of Phase 1 paper carry their own separate cut off marks, implying that to qualify for the Phase 2 paper you would need to score above the sectional cut off of each of the Phase 1 subjects.
However, in the Phase 2 paper, there are no sectional cut offs, so to qualify Phase 2 you would need to score above the overall Phase 2 cut offs.
SEBI Grade A Exam Analysis 2021
SEBI Grade A Exam Analysis of Prelims 2020 Now, before I get to mention the details about the difficulty level of the Phase 1 paper, let us take a look at SEBI Phase 1 exam pattern once.
So, the SEBI Grade A Prelims consists of 2 papers. The first one or Paper 1 is an objective type paper with questions according to the sections that I have listed below: Quantitative Aptitude General Awareness Reasoning Ability English Language
That said, the second paper or Paper 2 is also an objective type paper with questions based on the various subjects and topics like: Accountancy, Commerce, Management, Finance, Costing, Companies Act & Economics.
You should also note that the Paper 2 that we are concerned with is that of the General stream only. Meaning that the Paper 2 of the other streams are different from the one that we are talking about here, and have nothing to do with us for now.
So, starting with the analysis of Paper 1.
The Quantitative aptitude section was of elementary difficulty, meaning that it was easy to solve.
The General Awareness section was also pretty easy.
The Reasoning Ability section was of the easy to moderate level of difficulty.
And Lastly the English Language section was easy.
RBI Grade B Exam Syllabus 2021
The vast RBI Grade B syllabus contributes to the toughness of the exam.
As you already know by now the RBI Grade B Exam is conducted in 3 Phases (Prelims, Mains & Interview), which comprise 4 written papers (1 in Phase 1 & 3 in Phase 2).
The paper-wise syllabus for all 4 papers has been provided below, but before I discuss that let me tell a bit about the three streams that are available for your choice for the RBI Grade B Exam as I have also listed below the syllabus for different streams.
The available streams are the General stream, the DEPR or the “Department of Economic & Policy Research” stream, and the DSIM or the “Department of Statistics and Information Management” stream.
Now the General stream is what the majority of the RBI grade B aspirants opt for. As for the DEPR and DSIM streams, they are opted for by students mostly specializing in Economics and Statistics, respectively.
Coming back to the updated syllabus for 2021, they have been a few changes in the Phase 2 syllabi of ESI (Economic & Social Issues) and FM (Finance & Management).
In the sections below, I have mentioned the latest syllabus for the RBI Grade B exams of all the 3 streams. The source for the syllabus of all the phases of all 3 streams is the official notification from RBI for 2021: https://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/Content/PDFs/ADVTGBDRB092851E3E1C4D219C54676FA642772E.PDF#page=21
RBI Grade B Preparation
So, let’s first discuss the best approach for RBI Grade B Preparation, and to explain better let me take the help of this story from my school days
You see when I was in school, I used to be an athlete.
I used to compete in 100 meters and cross-country events and I had a coach who used to train the athletics team that I was a part of.
Now, before every post-summer vacation tournament, he used to make us train for 3 hours every day after school under the scorching afternoon sun. That used to be what you can call, our preparation.
After the prep, we used to sit down with our coach and analyze the teams that were going to compete with us by taking into consideration their past performances.
That’s how we used to gauge the degree to which we needed to stretch ourselves during our preparation.
Now I know what must be going on in your head. You are probably asking,
What has this story got to do with anything?
Well, in this article I have followed the same formula that my athletics coach used to make us follow.
Preparation fir st, analysis second.
To start with you should always remember the target date (Date of the Exam).
Therefore, in this segment, I have talked about the aptest preparation strategy and how best to prepare for the RBI Grade B exam.
RBI Grade B Cut off
The Cut Off marks for the 2021 recruitment cycle of the RBI Grade B Phase 1 Exam were released on 31st March 2021. You can check them in the table below.
I think I speak for all when I say, the release of the cut-offs couldn’t be described better than the saying “eternal doomsday”.
It feels never-ending and also absolutely exhausting. Every minute their release is delayed feels like a minute I could be closer to banging my head in the wall
Okay, I agree I might have done that once. I also agree that it’s not as exhausting for everybody as it is for me but god, I get angry while talking about them.
I apologize for my unnecessary rant there, let’s get back to the topic. The cut off list is provided to assess whether you are selected or not for the next stage.

RBI Grade B Exam Pattern
The initial two phases – Prelims (Phase 1) and Mains Exam (Phase 2) are computer-based written exams.
Prelims is a qualifying phase so don’t give a lot of time to this phase. You don’t want to score the highest in this phase as it doesn’t matter.
Start preparing more for Mains. Scoring high in Mains will make sure that you clear the final cut off easily.
Both Mains and Interview marks are counted in the final selection.
