I’m sharing very early wips. Trying to paint Raven Cycle’s Cabeswater. It’s not working. I want to get all these things outta my head and on the paper (can’t wait to get into the next one - there’s Blue! And a car! And the whole gang!) but they don’t come out right because I have this very bad habit of changing the appearance of things depending on what’s happening in the book. So Cabeswater is a mixed forest hidden in a large, normal forest biome in one moment and a spruce forest in the middle of a cold, Irish-nature-like beach and wheat fields the next.

(...So I had to get this out of my system, even though he doesn't look like at all the Laurence I know and furiously love. For one, MY Laurence has short, front curly hair as per the hair-do fashion of the beginning of the 19th century, serious dark hairworm eyebrows and clear cow eyes. Soft chin as per your usual Englishman and a nose that can go toe-to-toe with good old Bonnie of France. In the book it says he has long hair, and if I recall right, that he is somewhat shouldery so I tried to add those. I swear I'll do a better one in 19th century painting tradition, and post Napoleon with him so they can stare at each other ~with intensity~. And GOD, I wanna draw Temeraire so, so bad, I love him like crazy, but I am nowhere near in skill or expression for that. It's just, I don't think I will ever be able to draw him as I see him. Perhaps as a human, if he ever gets his claws on that certain mythical shapeshifting stone. There was this fanfic. Yes I'll do that at some point. I WON'T GO into the unbelievable technical clusterfuck of mistakes here I mean what the hell is happening with that hair it's like a toupée and someone clearly lost their concentration at the clothes and epaulettes, didn't they.
