Hey bitchez. Whass good. looking at this beautiful pic of Greece is really talking to me. about how awesome Greece is and how Greek food is phenomenaaaalllll. I havent visited yet but i reallllllyyyy wanna gooooo
So basically I ordered pasta last night and they sent this really awesome pita bread?? It was so unrelated but it tasted like a fkn siiiiiiin and it was especially welcome cuz I ordered an arrabiatta and it was soooo spicy!! You know how Indians are supposed to LOVE spicy food?? Well, I DONT (I ate 2 raw green chillis with dal and rice, but that doesn’t count) but basically the pita was sweetish and it had cheese on it? So it wasn’t entirely a pita but a hybrid and it SLAPPED is what I’m SAYING. And then today I ate my first meal at 6 pm, simple Indian home food, and I’m just well fed rn, back home for a while, laying flat on my ass and buried in full on body pillows and plush blankets with the AC on blast, my mom (who is getting a masters degree in machine learning and AI (for actual uses, like medical detection and robotic applications for dangerous jobs, but none of that unethical genAI shit, we hate it)) is rewatching her lectures and preparing for a quiz. As an Indian child, I must say that I got a lot of great stuff from my parents; but watching my mom struggle with academics and bullying her about how she’s not working hard enough is the biggest goatedest win of all. TIME. (Also guys pls dont get triggered, Indian culture just is like that and we like it like this. My mom bullied me to get into STEM and I will bully my kids too. Some of us hate it from ages 10 to 20 but we wise up by 21 and then we appreciate our parents for helping us see our potential thru. But that is not the point rn. The point is that my mom is suffering and I’m rejoicing and Greece is PHENOMENAL and greek food is da bomb and summer is SUMMERIIIIINNNGGG 🩷🩷🩷👶👶👶)
I gotta say I loved this commentary lol
We Greek family members also bully each other to make the other person pursue their potential, although I gotta say, it works better on some people than others, I know I wouldn’t be able to take too much of it, thankfully my parents did it only a little compared to other parents, but there are other kids who thrive with this type of pressure - and others who might become accomplished professionally but it takes a toll on other aspects of their lives. In short, there are all sorts of responses to it but it definitely is part of Greek family behavioural code like in the Indian one.
As for the food, typically Greek cuisine is popular and well liked but I have figured that the people who don’t like Greek cuisine are indeed the ones who want a lot of spice and hotness in their food. So if you don’t care much for strong spices, yes I believe you will like Greek food. There are numerous herbs and spices in Greek cuisine but they mostly add flavour, saltiness, fragrance and freshness but not as much hotness and bite to the food as in other cuisines. I can only think of two-three dishes tops that have a lot of bite and even those must be kinda mild compared to the spicy stuff of other cuisines. Hella tasty if you ask me, though. Maybe it’s because I am not used to spicy foods that I don’t really get the hype - I don’t want my food to be at war with my tongue lol
Indian chicken curry is life tho but of course I also prefer my curry mild haha
Hey there!! I’m so glad you liked my little rant and thank you so much for your lovely response!! I must say Greek culture fascinates me, from the rich history to the big fat Greek weddings (the movie and I went to my friend’s and I LOVED it) and it’s so cool to see that you guys have a family culture like ours too!! And yes it’s definitely better for some than others haha
And I also do love Greek food, I’m a vegetarian and I’ve been vegan at times, and honestly moussaka(I don’t use meat in it) and tzaziki with chips/veggies and Greek bean soup and spanakopita and obviously greek salad all really come in clutch for that and they’re so so yummy and healthy at the same time!! I will definitely check out more herbs, right now I just rely mostly on garlic and good quality olive oil and feta cheese and salt and pepper when I cook Greek food!! (I’m sorry if these dishes aren’t main Greek food/authentic, I just know a little bit from the youtube recipe videos that I try out 🥲😅)
And yes that’s EXACTLY my beef with spicy food too, I think it eclipses the flavors of all the other ingredients and is unnecessarily kicking my tongue and I definitely don’t need that at mealtime!!
#mildChickenCurryForTheWin #cluckCluck (that’s the sound a chicken makes??)
Also I love your blog, the pictures are STUNNING!!
@andromedicasphyxiate Thank you for your nice words!!! 🥹 The dishes you said are definitely authentic, they are more or less the staples of Greek cuisine as they know it abroad but they are totally accurate regardless. Btw I wish I could eat Greek food like you do haha because it is indeed a good cuisine for vegetarians but my GI tract sucks big time and I can’t eat as many veggies as I would like. I would like to recommend you an IMO very tasty GI killer, the Gigantes (Greek baked giant beans). If you liked fasolada (the bean soup), you’re gonna love this one too. Also, the fakes (Greek lentil soup) is a favourite dish of mine and somewhat lighter. Combine the lentil soup with feta (always make sure to get the real deal, not plain white cheese), a few drops of vinegar as you serve the soup (not more as it will become a killer too) and white bread! It’s delicious!
