i dislike the portrayal of elias in baby blue extensively because it felt way too off to what had been established already and had been established in the episode and then ... said even. it feels contradictory in the episode itself and, later, when elias kidnaps taylor carter. he says that he’d never hurt a child but ... the leap of logic hurts when he does practically hurt her by putting a baby in a refrigerated truck. i understand the writers were likely trying to reinforce the idea that elias would do anything to get his revenge, to get to his father. still, it fell flat in the way that it felt unnecessarily cruel from the man we get to know.

he’s a brilliant man, and i think he could have pulled off something else entirely to force john’s hand into giving up moretti’s location.

                 they had talked about this before. not only him, but it’d also been anthony too. WORRY, time and again, because he’d set himself right in the middle of the cosa nostra. elias had known the risks; it was impossible not to, with his foster mother having told him repeatedly to stay away from the mob, from anthony mentioning it may not be wise to prod a sleeping beast, to ... now ... with the worried looks from him. elias really can’t blame either of them; it was a dangerous gambit from the beginning to wade into that world. between the stagnate waste of people, the knuckle-draggers, and the upper management growing fat and reticent— maybe, he’d be better off outside of it, even with moretti having noticed him. ( he was close, so close, to knowing something more of his old man — maybe even — no, no, that had to come later ).

                 he looked at harold then, took the seconds of silence between them to study him. the little furrow between his brows, the way his teeth caught at his lower lip, and that look in those blue eyes, intense as ever. an INTENSE capacity to care, something elias had wondered what he’d done to deserve from him— hell, even from gloria —when he was who he was. ‘ yeah ... yeah, i know, ’ his hand waved between them, close to dismissive, pushing and rattling around that feeling in his chest: annoyance. it bit at him like a sour note, unable to rid himself of that constant, overhanging spirit of knowing disapproval. ( trust me, please ? just trust me ). his shoulders jut up and out, a quick shrug to push off that line of thinking, begging a part of harold to drop it. ‘ but kinda comes with the territory. ’

                 there’s a bite in his words, though, making him uneasy. it’s not how he wants to come off to him ... no, not him, never him. a deep sigh escaped him, reeling back on himself, as clumsy as he ever was when it came to harold. ‘ come on, though, i mean, IT’S ME, harold, ’ his shoes scuff against the floor, his hands uncontrollable— a quick touch to his chest, to move towards harold, and back again —trying desperately to paint that confidence he wished he always carried to him. ( not that it’d do me any good, would it ? ). because harold was like him, in that way, they had an effortless charisma, and means of getting people to trust and confide in them ... that somehow fumbled between them when it was, well, just them. said a lot to elias, in an unspoken manner, that they COULD see through each other when it mattered most. and he wasn’t sure whether that was a good thing, how alike they were, or whether it was just a matter of time before it turned around and divided them.
