The Heir functions much in the manner as an Heir to a kingdom or manor would: they're given power over their aspect and must then take on responsibility for it. While the King Arthur of legend is probably a Page, Arthur from BBC's Merlin is likely an Heir. Time represents decay and entropy, but also growth. Essentially, Time has to do with change: the natural course of events happening in a series. But the laws of thermodynamics require that change involves entropy. (if those two sentences make any sense, haha. It works in my head.)

The Heir of Time, then, is going to take on responsibility for their session's sequence of events, and probably grow into a great organizer. I can actually see the Heir of Time being a really good manager or boss; they know what needs to be done in what order, and which losses to cut (after all, Time knows better than anyone that you can never get 100% returns on anything). A fully developed Heir of Time will be hopping all over their session, making sure that their friends are getting things done in the right order. This is where Heir differs from Knight- where Dave's time loops were all about himself and what he was doing, the Heir of Time's loops would be about getting others to work the way they're supposed to.

In this manner, the Heir is really good for frog breeding! Especially if you've got a strong active Space player and/or a Knight of Life, they'll hardly need the Heir's help. They can all just check in every now and again to make sure everything is going as it's supposed to, leaving the Heir free to manage the rest of the session.

Princes destroy their aspect, or cause destruction through their aspect. Space has to do with creation, birth/rebirth, and physical space.

I'd say it wouldn't be a far stretch of the imagination that a God Tier Prince of Space would get 'splody powers. Blowing things up can be both destruction of space and destruction with space, because if someone gets hit by shrapnel or something they could die. So that's fun.

I feel like a Prince of Space could be very problematic in a session. First of all, they could probably fuck up frog-breeding pretty badly. Either by (accidentally or on purpose) killing all the frogs, thus destroying the method of rebirth, or by ectobiologizing them into some MONSTER FROGVERSE, which could cause all sorts of damage both to the session and the universe it contains.

Much of the Prince of Space's character development is probably going to be woven in with understanding SBURB mechanics. SBURB by nature depends on a very cyclical sort of universe/space-time continuum. The Prince, therefore, probably has a very linear view of time. Entropy, to him, is absolute. There is no going back and fixing things, no rebirth, no light at the end of the tunnel. The universe marches from birth to death, and that's it. It's done. The Prince's character arc could revolve around understanding the cyclical nature of things, and either accepting it and going down a sort of "destroy with Space" route (using the new universe, especially the Vast Croak, to destroy his enemies) or, if he's a villainous character, understanding and then rejecting this idea, and doing his best to thwart the rest of his team.

Seers have a comprehensive understanding of their aspect, which they use to direct others. Doom has to do with circumstance and inevitability.

Ok so my literature class just read Hamlet and I think Horatio is a good example of a Seer of Doom. Or maybe a Mage of Doom if you ascribe to the whole Mage-as-active-Seer thing, which I'm considering just giving up and going with that because what the hell else is a Mage. Anyway, let's use him to talk about Doom.

To start out with Hamlet is a very complex book and incorporates a lot of aspects like Light and Rage and a lot of the Dancestors might actually be parallels of Hamlet characters (like I'm pretty sure Kurloz is supposed to be Hamlet because of that line in the Ministrife), but that's a post for another time. For our purposes, it's enough to say that Hamlet spends most of the play struggling against Doom in some form or another, and Horatio helps him finally accept it.

You see, Hamlet is all about control. He's scared out of his mind to take any action if he knows he can't control the consequences; instead he'll sit around for days trying to plan everything and not get anything done. Horatio is basically the opposite. Horatio is, as my very academic classmate put it, a chill bro. He accepts that his actions will have consequences, but he knows that he can roll with whatever fate throws his way. So unlike Hamlet, he just kind of gets his shit done. And eventually Hamlet comes around to his way of thinking, even going so far as to say "we defy augury."

A Seer of Doom would, once they go through all their development, be a very Horatio-esque character. They probably can actually see what's coming, but are similarly chill about it. The Seer of Doom encourages the rest of the team to chill out, that the game will work the way it's supposed to.

In terms of powers, the Seer of Doom probably works on a Doctor Who-esque sort of principle. Most future events are in flux, but there are a few fixed points that must happen. While a Life player would be most interested in the fluctuating bits, the ones that can be changed, a Doom player works with those fixed points. The Seer of Doom sets events in motion to ensure that what has to happen does happen, and encourages their companions to chill out and accept what they can't change.

During their development, the Seer of Doom is likely very angsty (Doom players tend to be). They see all of these things- some of which are probably really awful- that they can't do anything to change. That's got to hurt. But if developed correctly, they can reach a state of Hamlet-like Nirvana and be a bona fide Chill Dude.

Witch of Mind is a badass title. She has the ability to manipulate people's choices to her will, making it really easy for her to force others to do her bidding. Ascended high enough on her echeladder, she could easily commandeer an entire session, both the players and the NPC's. She would essentially be playing chess with herself- controlling the players' and bad guys' moves to go her way.

In this way, she and the Prince of Doom would get along VERY well! Doom, as I see it, has to do with fate and inevitability, as well as sacrifice and death. As somebody who destroys the inevitable, the Prince of Doom probably loves someone who commandeers the fate of the game. In order to do the most damage possible, the Witch would probably want to pair up with the Bard of Doom, as he would assist her in destroying their fate rather than trying to do it himself. The Prince and the Witch would likely have a fairly antagonistic relationship - they're both working towards the same goal, probably, but they're both such active classes that they'll always be trying to take control and one-up each other.

On the other hand, the Prince might do the destroy with fate thing, which would put him in direct opposition to the Witch. In this case, it's a clash of titans. Her power to manipulate choice versus his power to utilize the inevitable.

Heart represents “soul,” which I take to mean individuality, or the core of what makes you yourself. I’m not even gonna try to put a verb on Pages, but basically they build themselves out of their aspect, starting with very little in the way of powers but becoming one of the most powerful classes.

The Page of Heart, then, would build themself out of… themself! Weird, right?

I think the Page of Heart could be, like, the epitome of all Pages. Because the Page class is all about discovering the hidden potential that you had all along, and for the Page of Heart, that is literally their own soul. So that’s pretty crazy. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what to make of it. The Page could begin as very… un-confident. Their journey might end up being one where they have to realize how strong they are, how they can stand on their own. On the other hand, the Page of Heart could be incredibly arrogant - having too much confidence in themselves. Or at least they would *seem* that way. What would probably be going on for real was that they didn’t realize how much individuality there was in the world - that’s to say, they couldn’t understand people whose “souls” - desires, goals, personalities, etc. - were different from theirs. This Page’s journey would be one of empathy. They would learn to appreciate the individuality in everyone, and how despite those differences, everyone is still, at their core, human. (Sort of in a Plato way? I’m deriving a decent amount from Tumblr user Theworstpersonintheworld, who associates Heart with Plato.)

Now, for the licorice speedos.

Pages are a probably passive class that start with a very small skillset, but eventually grow to have great control over their aspect and be among the most powerful players. Space represents birth/rebirth, creation, and physical space. It also has strong ties to motherhood/maternity.

The Page of Space will, as all Pages do, start out without much going for them. They'll probably be quite needy and have difficulty caring for themselves (they will grow into the inverse of this, caring not only for themselves but for others as well). Their quest will probably involve learning to depend less and less on their sessions Knight and/or Time player (though of course, some dependence on friends is never a bad thing) and take control over the frog-breeding. As this goes on, they'll be forced to begin using their powers, physically transporting or even summoning frogs (Spacey powers are a little confusing; it's unclear how much of Jade's powers come from God Tier vs. First Guardian, and also they're never described via exposition, only shown in flash animation, meaning we know nothing of the theory behind them). The Page will then probably have to learn to start caring for their teammates - perhaps a close friend of theirs will get in some sort of trouble, or maybe they'll need to do some Auspisticizing. Should all go well, the Page will end up as a strong player with some really cool powers, and a generally really good ally.

I'm now accepting session asks ONLY via Skype.  I really hate to do this, but it's just a much easier way to analyze sessions, and I get SO MANY of them in my inbox. I'm really, really sorry if you don't have a Skype account, but I just can't deal with it. I'm also deleting all my old session asks - again, I'm REALLY sorry, but it's just way too much.

After deleting sessions, I have 35 asks in my inbox. I'm going to try and answer all of them. After that, what I think I'll do is have my inbox open for short periods of time, answer all the asks I get in that time, and then repeat. It will be much more manageable that way.

Gosh, there are a lot of Knight of Space asks here. Not that that’s a problem or anything. Anyway, most of you know the drill.

The Knight of Space is concerned with using creation/rebirth as a weapon to defend friends and defeat enemies. They’re also a fierce motherly figure, like a mama bear protecting her young. And they’re REALLY FRIKKIN BUSY all the time. Because, like, frog-breeding PLUS being a warrior class is a shit-ton of work. There’s also the thing where they’re a Knight and have to get over their insecurities, which are probably tied to their ability to keep their friends safe.

Meanwhile, the Sylph of Heart deals with identity and emotions. She’s a pretty good moirail in general, and boy does the Knight need it! Knights tend to struggle with their identities since they’re so insecure. The Sylph of Heart would be able to take down some of the Knight’s facade and make them more comfortable with who they really are.

Of course I don’t mind, darling <3

Well, now, this is certainly an interesting pairing!

My first reaction to this was, “OMG SO CUUUUUUTE~" but Tumblr ate that post, and after having some time to think about it, it’s actually a lot more nuanced than I first thought.

The Knight of Doom can, I think, safely be called the ADORABLE ANGST X2 COMBO. Knights, after all, tend to be angsty, and Doom is pretty broody, as well. At first glance, the Seer of Hope seems like the perfect candidate for their Moirail! They can see all sorts of possibilities and happy things; that sounds perfect for helping the Knight. However, the Knight of Doom doesn’t work in possibility. He works in inevitability. I get the feeling that the Seer would always be trying to say, “But this awesome thing could happen! Or this thing! Or this thing!" And the Knight would just be like, “That’s nice. Now shut up and let me get shit done."

It’s possible that the Seer could give the Knight some optimism, which they probably really need. But I feel it’s more likely the Seer would just get on their nerves. =(

That’s not to say the relationship can’t go well, though! After all, predestination in SBURB is a tricky thing, and someone who can sit him down and tell him, “SHUT UP WITH YOUR FUCKING INEVITABILITY; THERE IS MORE THAN ONE OPTION HERE" could be JUST what the Knight needs!

I can see them more easily as Moirails than I can as Matesprits, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be the latter! In fact, it would be a pretty cute ship. They’d be that really cute couple that’s always teasing each other and omg that’s actually adorable.

I can see these two working very closely together. Breath and Life are closely related aspects, and I feel like Seers and Rogues would make a good team. The job of a Rogue, of course, is to give and take their aspect where they need to do so. Being close to a Seer may help them know where their aspect is needed! This is especially true in cases of similar aspects like Breath and Life.

Breath represents direction and freedom, and Life represents energy and spirit. It’s really hard to have one without the other. The Seer of Life will see where energy collects, where there’s too much of it and where there’s a lack of it, and the Rogue can spread it around, helping their team work cohesively toward the same goal (it’s interesting that Breath, the aspect of freedom, can actually help create its opposite Blood, the aspect of unity).

THEN YES, THAT’S WHAT.

As we’ve seen, Seers and Knights make GREAT Moirails. Like, that is one of my favoritest pairings ever. And as we’ve seen, there’s a sort of connection between Space and Void (the theory I’m working on may explain that a bit). As such, the Seer of Void and the Knight of Space would probably make a pretty good Moirallegiance!

The Knight of Space, if I have them pegged right, is really missing some Void in their life. They have too much going on - always dashing here and there, breeding this frog or fighting that battle. A Seer wouldn’t be able to give them Void - a Sylph or Maid would probably be best for this pairing - but they’d probably be able to help the Knight make use of the down-time they have.

The Seer, meanwhile, literally sees Nothingness. They can look into the dark and empty spots and draw out information that nobody else could have found. But after staring at the dark for so long, the light is sure to hurt one’s eyes. (omfg guyzI’m so poetical)  The Knight of Space would be able to bring them back from the dark spots, keeping them rooted in the physical reality around them (and basically keep them from going Grimdark).
