Hedonism is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as:

·   The pursuit of pleasure; sensual self-indulgence.

·   Philosophy the ethical theory that pleasure (in the sense of the satisfaction of desires) is the highest good and proper aim of human life.

And this offering from Scotch boutique whisky maker “Compass Box” offers just that.

Hedonism is a blended grain whisky, a variety of whisky that is not often found in Scotland anymore. But this variation, produced only once a year when “Compass” can find the the perfect American-Oak casks for ageing, is not what you would expect a blended grain to be. In fact it was awarded World’s Best Grain Whisky at the World Whisky Awards in 2008 and 2009.

This Hedonism is incredibly smooth and sweet and should appeal to both the non whisky drinker as well as the experienced. Compass describe the flavours as being of sweet vanilla, coconut and toffee, and we pick up a bit of honey in there too.

The Hedonism is perfect for enjoying as an aperitif, where adding a drop of water opens up some of the fruitier flavours. Or alternatively we enjoy having it neat as a night cap, to let the warming toffee flavours carry us off into our beds.
