actually loving and caring about a fictional character means thinking and talking about them, wanting them to take a substantial space in a text and in fan discussions, and desiring interesting, coherent, well-developed, and well-written dynamics, arcs, and stories for them, not protecting their human rights/comfort/mental health. when i see ppl placing focus on the latter i cant help but feel like they r either frauds regurgitating and weaponizing talking points for some ulterior silly dogwater fan agenda & beef or they genuinely struggle with understanding that these r words on paper and not real ppl

Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time.
