The biggest problem with euphoria season 3 is that the drama is not coming from the inside which is why they need these horrific mafias to create conflict in the story. Why do Nate and Cassie seem genuinely in love with one another ? Why is Maddy so zen and forgiven them to the point she is risking her own life for them?
And don't get me started on the blatantly transphobic storyline for Jules. I wish Hunter Schafer left the show like Barbie did when she still had time.
The Trope isn't the Problem
There's tropes in every genre and every writer has heard not to use them.
Don't do the chosen one. Skip enemies to lovers. Steer clear of the mentor who dies or the Prophecy will end it all.
But in truth readers connect with these elements. The trope feels familiar and it draws them in adversity, telling them what to expect.
Think about enemies to lovers for example. In a romance, it delivers tension and the pull of forbidden desire. In a political thriller, it bends warring ideologies can bend into something far more personal and twisty. The same trope adapts to whatever you are writing.
The chosen one trope works the same way. In YA fantasy, it's often about realising hidden strength. A white knighting hero can quickly turn into a villain if perspectives are flipped.
Genre acts as a lens rather than a set of rules. Run a familiar trope through a specific genre, and it naturally takes on fresh edges.
So don't worry about overstuffing your story with tropes. Tropes exist as a guideline to set the narrative for where your story goes and how it's structured.

it's so fun having a ship you love so much that you start hallucinating and become schizophrenic π₯°π«Άπ

has anyone noticed how the strongest guiding force of both erna and layla seems to be their sense of debt??
erna accepts bjorn's proposal because she feels indebted to him for helping her family. then she tries her level best to make that marraige work because she believes she "owes" it to her grandmother to be happy like she promised rather than "wanting" to be happy herself???
a lot of people say erna expected more from the marriage than what bjorn wanted to give but i honestly think erna's "love" for bjorn was more of a survival mechanism than anything else. she had no idea how badly she would be ostracized and villified because of gladys and believed "loving" bjorn would help her "endure."
it's a conspiracy theory of mine but notice how erna feel out of love with bjorn AFTER the whole Gladys thing was cleared and she was finally accepted in society?? i think erna finally subconsciously felt she didn't need to endure anymore and had payed off her debts by becoming the face of hatred in place of bjorn among other things.
