Most people are pissed about the begining of the game, what puts you in the main storyline, having to play as the main antagonist, and the way things were resolved in the end. It's also getting hate from the LGBT+ comunity as well.

Most people are pissed that we didnt get a heartwarming story about two people crossing the contry together and building a relationship weather it be as lovers, friends or family.

Me, honestly, love the game and while I still don't 100% understand why we had to play Abby for a good portion of the game, I get why the game was presented this way. Out of my undying respect for the first game and it's DLC, I tried to see both sides of the story of this one as well as I saw both sides of the story on the first one after playing it so many times. (Beaten it 10 times, once on the grounded mode, but who's counting?)

In the first game we played mostly as Joel trying to get Ellie to the Fireflies to try and create a vaccine for the Cordyceps Brain Infection but in the end we killed every last Firefly in the hospital to save her.

Seeing Joel's side of the story here, he had saved Ellie because he knew the surgery was going to kill her and going by the medical information artifacts that I found while playing, (On the easiest mode, dont judge me! I wanted to take my time and unlock some trophies.) there wasn't much hope that the vaccine would work anyway. The way I understood the research, was that Monkeys turned out to be immune to the virus, but not the same way Ellie is, they could get people infected. They tried to make a vaccine from it but all tests turned out to be inconclusive. So he saved Ellie from being killed for a vaccine that would not work.

After much reasearch, and watching the most recent video from Game Theory proving my own theory which you can find here- (https://youtu.be/S5ulX06McSY), I feel that Joel was actually right in taking Ellie away. The vaccine wouldn't have worked, no matter how hard they tried. The infection is fungal and a vaccine wouldnt have worked to fight against it. A medicine however, like a pill or a liquid such as penicillin or cough medicine would have possibly worked. To make something like that would not have resulted in killing Ellie, they would have drawn blood and made it that way.

Now looking at the Firefly side of the story, they were trying to do what was right in trying to find a cure. They would have no idea that trying to make a vaccine wouldn't possibly work and they were doing everything they could to try and make one but with no real results. They were just doing their best. Now seeing through their eyes, what Joel did was incredibly fucked up. He took away their one chance to make a cure, and killed the only doctor who could do the job while also taking the lives of numerous Fireflies in the process.

Marlene made it to the hospital with only a handfull of her crew, but there was still no telling how many people had made it from other quarantine zones or how many people had been there in the first place. But while they are still a small number, and with Joel killing the ones in the hospital, including their leader, it makes sense that they disbanded for the most part in the 5 year time gap. (Technically four.)

Abby wanting revenge for all the people he killed, including her dad, makes sense to me. Who knows how many soldiers she was good friends with? The only immune person was taken from the hospital, taking away all her hope in the world. Not to mention her dad, which was most likely the only family she had left.

Even Ellie herself had lost her purpose in the world. She based everything on being the cure. The reason she fought so hard to make it across the contry was so she could be the one person who gave the world another chance. By the end of the first game, she was running on autopilot by the time they reached Jackson. We can see her trying so hard to give herself some sort of purpose again within the first years of ariving. Being as helpful as she could around the settlement, going on patrols and so on.

Ellie was in the dark for years, but had some suspicion that Joel was lying to her. He finally told her the truth when she corners him amd forces him to and after that things were rough between the two of them. The two had just began to patch things up when Joel was beaten to death.

Joel had protected her, looked out for her, and became the best damn father figure for her while they were still on good terms, even while they were still going through their rough patch. I understand why Ellie went after Abby in the first place. She had brutally killed Joel while they held her down and made her watch his death.

Now I agree, the game could have kept the story on Ellie and Dina with their journey to Seattle and show how they got there and all the hardships they went through on the way. Yes the game could have taken that route. But they wanted us to see Abby's character as well.

We played as Abby so that we could see her as a human being and not just as the brutal murder that she was presented to us as. They wanted us to see her as the person she truly is, a caring person who worries about her friends and is sympathetic to a couple of Scars that had saved her life. We even got to see a love story with her as well to see that she still had feelings towards Owen even though that he and Mel were pregnant together. She risked everything to help Lev and Yara, eventually taking Lev under a protective arm as she followed up on Owen's lead of the newest group of Fireflies in Santa Barbara.

I also agree that the game could have been it's own stand alone game as a diffrent chapter of The Last of Us' story with a growing friendship between Lev and Abby and it possibly could have had us play out with us looking for leftover Fireflies to give us the gameplay we wanted, a heartwarming story between two characters.

By the end Neil Druckmann wanted us to be morally torn with the way things were resolved. Ellie let them go and I beleive it was because she saw how corrupted she had become by revenge and figured that Joel would not have wanted her to become this. But us as the players wanted Abby dead and Ellie to get her revenge. But we also see that by the end of the game that Abby was more focused on protecting Lev than Ellie trying to kill her. Abby didnt kill Ellie in the end, knowing that she had to be there for Lev, and that's another possible reason that Ellie let them go, she may have possibly saw a bit of Joel and herself in the both of them.

Now honestly the hate from the LGBT+ community completly baffles me. Yeah, sure they are in a post-apocalyptic world where other things take a higher priority, but there are bound to be some people still set in their ways. Especially with the religous sect.

Ellie and Dina getting told off by Seth at the dance was a look into his character as homophobic. He didn't respect that Ellie was gay or that Dina was bisexual. And I see that as completly normal thing in their everyday lives. What LGBT+ person isnt going to face some sort of homophobia in their lives? Ellie nor Dina let it get to them and continue their relationship despite what he said.

Lev on the other hand got it way worse. He was hunted down by his group for being transgender, and damn near killed because of it. But still he still stayed the way he is because that's what he wanted to do with himself. Even his sister, Yara, ran off with him to protect him and died in the process. Yet he found solace in Abby and left with her to go to Santa Barbra.

The ending of the game pissed most people off. Dina left (possibly went back to Jackson) with JJ (which I headcanon is short for Jessie Joel) since she couldn't stay with Ellie seeing how her need for revenge consumed her. She did what she thought was best for her and her son and went back to Jackson, leaving Ellie on her own. The game also left an open ending with the last shot having us watch Ellie leave the farm and head out the gate. This left the series open for another instalment. (Which I already got my hopes up for!)

You see both sides of the story, see that both Ellie and Abby are justified in some way for what they have done. Neil Druckmann said this game was going to be much darker than the first one and it's DLC in which he delivered on. Most of the fans are just pissed that he was right.

I truly love the game and while I agree that it could have gone a thousand diffrent ways, I was happy with the end results because the game was a rollercoaster of emotions and had me morally torn at the end. The game was set up for a third instalment and I totally expect some DLC in the coming year or so.

I need to talk about this because I'm getting tired of everyone calling this game badly written.

Imagine for one second, that the entire game was just that part with Abby. You're a young firefly soldier, wishing every day to find the light. You spend every day living with hope and with your amazing super sweet dad who loves saving run away zoo animals and collecting coins. One day you experience a life changing event. You finally have a chance to find a cure but the same man who brought that to you has brought you the most pain in your life. He killed your father. He killed everyone in your group, your family, all but a handful of people. You have nothing more to fight for but to find justice in the cruelty brought to you.

Every day of your life after that revolved around finding him and getting revenge. 4 years of God knows what happens and you finally have a lead, you finally have a chance to make him suffer like you did, and you do.

Life after that is empty and do you have regrets? What do you even regret? This was your life for many years and there's nothing after to fight for. Except then it happens. You meet Yara and Lev and life has meaning again. Protect them at all cost because they are the light in the dark. They deserve more than what was given to them. You fight for them. You first want them to go alone with Owen but you then hope to go with them and start a new life. Yara dies saving you and Lev, and you almost die saving Lev. You both escape to find a better life but that is taken from you as well as the rest of your friends are killed one by one. Not only that but it's connected to the same person who has taken everything from you before. Revenge is the answer again. You want her to suffer for what she did. Yet at that moment, Lev calls out to you and you don't do it. Why? Because you don't want the same to come back to him. You want him safe and that is more important than anything. So you leave, hoping to end this cycle of revenge. You go looking for the light again, but your past choice haunts you and comes right back to make you suffer.

Now look at this again and tell me what is different between this story and Joel's story?

Right from the start of the outbreak, Joel suffers the most not because of the infection, but because a soldier killed his daughter. It's been 20 years and if you even try to tell me that Joel did not go through an entire rampage of soldiers until he found the one who brought the order to kill him and Sarah because he absolutely did. Tommy says that he has nightmares from these years. Joel was a hunter who murdered innocent people. Joel was a murderer because the world took everything from him. He seeked revenge and it brought him more emptiness than anything else. Until one day he found something to fight for. Ellie was his light and his life and he was ready to do anything for her and when people tried to take that away, he hasn't hesitated to bring it back. After that he wanted to end it and end the cycle. He calmed down and he settled. He's living a better life, but his past has come back for him and has taken that from him.

And THEN look at Ellies story and tell me the difference between these two? You have someone you care for, they are taken from you and you go back to get revenge. In your path to it you learn of other things to fight for but your past haunts you and just as you have the ability to kill Abby, you chose to end the cycle and go back to a better life with your wife and child.

Yes, they are different in aspects but all three of them have gone through the same shitty situation. Ellie chose to end it when she could and there is great honor in her choice.

This game is a PERSPECTIVE.

This world has always been bigger than Joel and Ellie.

We are biased for Joel because we saw his story. If we saw Abby's story first we would have been biased towards her.

So everyone please calm your asses down and stop calling out Abby because she is the exact same as Joel and Ellie and you are all cowards for not wanting to admit it.
