They speak of madness as though it is a place to avoid, a forest no sane traveler would willingly enter. But no one tells you that sometimes the only path to yourself begins where reason abandons you.

I wandered through rooms built from my own fears. I mistook loneliness for wisdom, silence for healing, destruction for freedom. I wore masks until I forgot there had once been a face beneath them. Every version of me died insisting it was the real one.

There were nights when I believed I had disappeared entirely that I had become nothing more than the echo of people who had left. I searched for myself in strangers, in books, in philosophies that promised meaning, in pain that promised truth. Each answer dissolved the moment I touched it.

Madness was never merely screaming into the void. It was smiling while the void slowly learned my name. It was questioning every memory until even my reflection felt like an imposter. It was carrying a soul so fractured that every shard insisted it was whole.

Yet somewhere beneath the ruin, beneath every failed attempt to become someone else, something remained untouched. Not happiness. Not certainty. Simply the quiet realization that I had survived every version of myself that tried to disappear.

Perhaps that is what it means to find oneself,if not uncovering a perfect identity hidden beneath the chaos, but recognizing the one who kept walking through it. The one who endured every collapse without knowing there would be another morning.

I did not find myself despite the madness.

I found myself because I was willing to walk through it.

And the person waiting at the end was not the one I had been searching for.
