Angelicaâs soft words of assurance made Layla return her gaze back to her and weigh her options. How could she tell her the complete story when Layla herself didnât understand it? When she was still confused and had a hard time believing it was true. Eventually she decided against telling Angelica, or better say, she postponed telling her. Instead, she put a hand over hers gently, the corners of her mouth lifting into a genuine smile. âThank you, friend.â A chuckle was then heard and Layla realized she did feel a bit better, despite the fact her problem hadnât really been discussed and solution found. Yet, Angelicaâs support meant a lot, her words lingering in the back of her mind. âWell, depends on what you mean by âsuccessful encounterâ. âYouâre right, knowing me, he wasnât the only one but Iâm afraid the other encounters were purely physical. Andâ I canât talk about that. The feeling canât be expressed in words,â concluded Layla with a victorious smirk. She pursed her lips in thought then, recalling faces of all those people sheâd encountered. âIâve met a lot of people; one hot single dad, one cutie pie foreigner, two pregnant womenâ can you believe? Oh, and! Guess whoâs my new neighbor.â
âCarpe diem, indeed.â Layla grinned widely. The open-minded adventurer she was, she had numerous interests and always looked to try new things for each new interest and experience fed the next. And she wanted more. It was one of the things she had in common with the brunette sitting next to her. It was admirable how Angelica Rogers was hard-working but still had her freedom, time to go out, time for art, time for family and friends. It was her who taught Layla how to use her time wisely and bring some order into a chaotic life. ââThe Chandler?â Uh-oh. All heartbreaks reminded the blonde of wounds that healed but always left one of those scars sensitive to touch. Layla quickly poured wine into two glasses and handed one to Angie. She needed it. âTomorrow sounds good,â she said softly, trying to calm her breathing, still overwhelmed with excitement. Angelica trusted her enough to put a big responsibility on her shoulders which, kind of, surprised her. Yet, she felt honored and ready to welcome another challenge. âA personal project? I love those. Spill. âNot wine, this rug has been in our family forever.â
âAlwaysâ was the brunetteâs response to her friend, followed by a gentle nudge and an encouraging smile. It was one of the favorite things about her friendship with Layla. Knowing words werenât always needed, none of them needed explanations or excuses to be or not to be around each-other. Then, upon hearing the blondeâs response, the businesswoman couldnât help but smirk along before rolling her eyes playfully at Laylaâs words, chuckling lightly. âYeah, Iâm sure you donât even need words to express how it feels, primal noises suffice most of the timeâ Angelica provided with a mischievous grin before arching an eyebrow in her friendâs direction, interested. âSingle hot dad, huh? Are you thinking on finally settling down, Layla?â she inquired teasingly before tilting her head to the side âI met a pregnant lady too, sunshine hair like yours. Whoâs your new neighbor? Please do not say a porn star or next Thursday brunch will have to be held in the office instead.â
Angelica took the glass gracefully, taking a deep swig, enjoying the faint burning sensation in the back of her throat as she downed half the content of the glass before shooting her friend a smile. The brunette had always been keen of keeping her personal life and her business in different ends, until the blonde came into her life and taught her fun and business werenât that far apart. The brunette was thankful for finding in Layla a great employee and even a better friend, hiring her had been one of the best decisions she had ever made. âTomorrow it is. Cheers, mon amieâ she granted, settling the glass on her lap before taking in a deep breath, looking at the blonde. âIâve been thinking a lot lately, you know I love kids and since, well, I might never have an opportunity to have my ownâ the businesswoman began, chewing the inner of her cheek, âI wanted your opinion on this: An orphanage. More of a safe house for children if you will. It just seems right. When Iâm gone, where will all my money go to? Might as well help shape an entire generation.â
