the more I rewatch season 1 of spn the more I understand that Dean was literally going against his dad to make sure to "protect" Sam. in my opinion i think Dean saw John as a threat to Sam staying by his side, so he decided to stand up more for him to not lose him again and have a better chance of him staying around after they kill Azazal. I mean, John even says to Dean "Im not thrilled about this new tone of yours." implying Dean was being more agressive towards him. Dean would even go against John to keep Sam to himself. hungry wolf.

I love how Sam is literally treated as a delicate flower. fought over by Dean and John, captured, used as leverage. in all senses he takes the feminine role, he is literally the divine feminine. I hope this makes sense, think about all the times he was like a captured princess, or needing to be saved by Dean. I think this is a huge reason why I like their dynamic so much. Sam is seen as a girl in the eyes of so many. or something that is needed to be protected and kept safe from impurities, like monsters, demon blood, ect.
